Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

OMG. I just discovered the My Disney Experience app - awesomeness! Right now the wait at Tower of Terror is 40 minutes and Fast Passes are for between 4 and 5 p.m. Cool! It also tells you what characters are out, what time they are out, and where they will be - in case you are a character nut!

Good luck Coach!

As for a pre-race dinner, we have reservations at Bongo's. That's where we ate before our first half marathon and so we're going back. Probably have the chicken with some plantains and rice....and I know I shouldn't do this but there may be a mojito involved. I'll drink plenty of water :)

QUESTION! We are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. This is my first time staying here and I just noticed on the back that unlike CSR and POR (the other two moderates I've stayed at), CBR does not have one central location with restaurants, check-in etc, but two: The Custom House (check-in) and Port Royale (with the restaurants). Where will the race buses be?

I stayed at CBR last year and the race busses hit all of the bus stops at the resort, it was quick and easy on/off before and after the marathon.

I would suggest trying to negotiate a room in the Jamaica or Aruba areas at check in. Buses come in from Victory and circle clockwise. First stop Jams.

We were almost exclusive CBR guests until DVC. We stayed in a Pirates room a couple years back. Still love the ambiance of the resort... though I am not so enamored with the food court revision.

I am going to download... Though I am a real Undercover Tourist Fan. I am exactly 1,513,934 yards from Rose and Crown

I'm staying at SSR. Does anyone know if the bus picks up at each section or do we have to go to the main building?

Everything is tied to your My Disney Experience app now. It has all your reservations on it. You use the same login as they Disney website. The website is basically My Disney Experience as well now.

I noticed that my resort reservation was not showing up in the app, is it supposed to? Just a slight off topic question:). I do like that the ADR's are in the app, so nice!

Coach,

Thanks very much for the map suggestion for running at OKW.

I had a really nice run this morning - 3.75 miles along through OKW and along the nature trail over to SSR and then back.

It was warm... umm... I mean WARM. I haven't run in temperatures like that in about 3 months and it felt okay, but boy was I sweating. I REALLY started hydrating today as we were out at Animal Kingdom.

Today was 3.75 running and about 3.5 walking around AK. We're going to dinner at the Biergarten in Germany, so that will add some walking distance as well.

I may bag my runs the rest of the week in favor of the walking at the parks before race day.

Overall, the weather this week is great for a winter getaway from Philadelphia, but I do wish it was cooler for race day.

As it is, I'm just taking it as more incentive to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere of the race rather than try to run for time.

Four days!

I am bringing a long sleeved tech shirt and a long sleeved tee for the staging area. It's a small thing to add to the checked bag - just in case.

I've got an old throw away jacket I am going to take. My suggestion is that if you plan on bringing something to keep you warm at the race start and there is any chance in the world you might start the race with it and ditch it within the first few minutes or miles, make sure it is a zip front to avoid having to pull something over your head/hat/headphones/pony tail, etc.

I plan on running in just a think sleeveless singlet so I will definitely want something a little more for the hour I am out waiting to actually start.

Good luck on Friday coach. And to everyone else for the weekend. Is anyone else freaking out about getting sick? Seems like everywhere I go people either have had the flu, people in their house have had it or have it now. It's hard to put yourself in a bubble. Just one more thing to add to the nerves. There are things that I will be sad about next week, but the nervousness is not one of them!

I am starting to stress as everyone around menus sick. Starting to feel warm and increased sinus pressure. Right now would be fine to run through, but starting to get concerned if it gets worse. Crossing fingers.

2) Anyone know TSA regs on powders? I use Cytomax (Powerade/Gatorade = GI issues) and I have the HUGE tub of powder. Was planning to put what I needed into a zip bag and take it in my carry on, but curious if it will be an issue.

So excited, only 2 more wake ups and we are on the plane!!
Looks like this has been answered, but thought I'd chime in. Over Christmas I had a jar of supplement powder in my carry on with no problems.

As folks may recall, I posted that I had a possible job interview in our Orlando area office. I posted after the hiring supervisor and I had a great conversation concerning his thoughts about a fairly senior level employee posting for the position. Well, we were caught be a few end of the year delays and I had received no news.

I phoned yesterday to see if it would be appropriate to have an additional conversation since I am in the area this week. He indicated that he was going to phone later in the week as ask if I could come over… great minds think alike. I offered up Friday and Monday as better days. He has a full day meeting Friday but said that was his preferred day. I asked if he was sure… on Monday, he could laugh at me in my post marathon condition. We meet during lunch on Friday.

Thanks for all the well wishes! We will let all know
Good luck with the interview!!

Yeah, I dumped my super cold clothes, but am still bringing gloves, a fitted lycra shirt (for under main shirt), a technical long sleeve, and arm warmers.

My Peter Pan outfit for the marathon has tights that I will probably wear even with the heat. Peter just doesn't look the same without the tights. They are thin and might also provide some nice compression for the second half of the Goofy.
I'm wondering the same thing about my tights. They aren't part of my costume, but I've trained wearing light compression leggings - unfortunately black. They are Under Armour "Heat Gear" so are meant for warmer conditions, but still long black pants doing a slow full marathon...? My alternate plan is running skirt and calf sleeves, but I'd feel safer from a training/muscle perspective wearing my usual tights. Anyone know what the temps were during Wine & Dine this year? I wore my tights then...

I like it too, but it can never find all my reservations, so I'm manually adding the resort and dining info.

I was so glad my mom asked if I wanted any of the jackets she was about to donate to Goodwill! Perfect for race throwaways!

I noticed that as well. I don't know why hotel reservations aren't showing up. They might not have got that part up and running yet, maybe they aren't going to, I don't know. This whole My Disney Experience is a work in progress, with them adding the fastpass + and all to this app and site in the future.

Thanks!

Another question. Do the marathon buses stop at more than one resort?

Yes... The Epcot resort loop resorts share a bus as does the OKW and SSR bus. THis is more a non race morning thing. On race morning, buses usually pull up and fill then head to the race. IT's been a while since I road a bus to the expo so I may be mistaken on the sharing.

So the race buses stop at ALL the bus stops at CBR? It's not like the other resorts?

Any PHM bibs for sale??

I know wrong thread, but if this happens, I would like to run all races in a calendar year.

OK back to the regularly scheduled obsessing about why I did not just spend the entire week in Orlando!

Coach, I've already seen a few offerings on the Princess Half Facebook pages. I like your odds.
