Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Just wanted to share something my physio said to me yesterday - a reassurance to anyone who is stressing over missing runs due to soreness or sickness or schedules:

There is nothing you can do now that will increase your fitness for the weekend - the hard work is over. So trust your training and any previous base you have built up, and enjoy the rest :)

BINGO:thumbsup2

Uh ya, I am opening doors and turning off light switches at work with a paper towel after I have washed my hands. :rotfl:

My one coworker this morning was like "I'm surprised you're not sick, everyone is sick, and with all the outside running you do (in the PA winter), I can't believe you aren't sick."

I wanted to cut her. Seriously.

Seriously made me LOL!

Bet of luck to everyone in the races and in the traveling!! I'm so freakin' excited. We leave early Friday morning and I cannot wait!

I'm going to see a chiropractor tomorrow about my knee issues. I know there really isn't anything anyone can do, but hoping he'll at least recommend a brace that will get me thru the 13.1 (and still be able to walk around the parks for the next week).

Coach: best of luck on your meeting!

Ok...what does everyone eat for dinner before a big race? I mean, I know what should eat, etc, just wondering if anyone has any fun traditions! :goodvibes

I remember having ravioli at WP Cafe in DTD before the Princess. This year for the marathon, we're eating at Mama's in HS. I snagged the coveted, geriatric dinner requirement time of 3:30. I'm sure I'll be hungry before I go to bed in which case I'll just eat a banana or something.

Leaving in a few hours for WDW!!!!!

:yay:

I have woken up with a nervous stomach yesterday and today! I can't wait for this to finally be over so I can quit worrying about it! ::yes::

As folks may recall, I posted that I had a possible job interview in our Orlando area office. I posted after the hiring supervisor and I had a great conversation concerning his thoughts about a fairly senior level employee posting for the position. Well, we were caught be a few end of the year delays and I had received no news.

I phoned yesterday to see if it would be appropriate to have an additional conversation since I am in the area this week. He indicated that he was going to phone later in the week as ask if I could come over… great minds think alike. I offered up Friday and Monday as better days. He has a full day meeting Friday but said that was his preferred day. I asked if he was sure… on Monday, he could laugh at me in my post marathon condition. We meet during lunch on Friday.

Thanks for all the well wishes! We will let all know

Good luck!!!!:cool1:

:lmao: I know how you feel. My co-workers apparently thing it's funny that I don't want to hi-5 anyone, don't want them to touch me, breathe on me, NOTHING. Now it's a big joke and they mimic coughing in my direction when I go by. I don't make enough money to deal with people like this.

Any PHM bibs for sale??

I know wrong thread, but if this happens, I would like to run all races in a calendar year.

OK back to the regularly scheduled obsessing about why I did not just spend the entire week in Orlando!

Did you check the Bay of E?

They should start appearing closer to the date;)

I wish I had remembered to check these boards earlier!
I'm doing my first long race ever - the 1/2 :)
So excited and nervous! My husband has done it twice and just keeps poo-poo'ing me!

Are any of you worried about the heat... I have been training in low 40's weather and I pretty much melt at heat and humidity, so I'm so anxious!! I know it's nothing I can control!

Also - does anyone know - if I get to the expo before 7 and am in line, will they let me pick up my stuff? We get in late on Thursday and I wanted to try to beat the crowds on Friday, plus we have lots of plans on Friday - two daughters + Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique means I'll get nothing else done on Friday :)

Packing question: Given the current weekend weather forecast, should I still pack some cold weather running clothes "just in case" or is that pure insanity?

I was wondering the same thing. :confused3

But the forecast hasn't changed at all and shows high 70s each day, so I think I am not going to pack any.

I'm hoping if we all leave the cold weather gear at home, the temperature will get cooler and more comfortable for running. :rotfl2:

Good luck to all that are running this weekend. And Coach, good luck in your interview. I hope to see you @ PHM next month! :)

I am bringing a long sleeved tech shirt and a long sleeved tee for the staging area. It's a small thing to add to the checked bag - just in case.

I'm bringing shorts and capris but I don't think I'm going to bother packing anything with long sleeves except maybe a shirt to wear first thing then stuff in my checked bag. Don't forget sunscreen, especially if you're doing the full! I picked up a tube of sport sunscreen at Target today so I'm not crazy sore AND a lobster. Yeesh.

I use them... started in a race situation when I talked it over with an IM HI buddy.

I need to say that I sweat heavily on the run and my sweat has a very high electrolytic component to it -- i.e. black shorts and bike pants look white after 3+ hours on a humid day. It is also noticeably deposited on non-black clothing.

Read the instructions and understand how to take them.. Too many or without enough water can put you on the side of the road. If you follow the lower end of dosage, you should do well. These as compared with others brands have a higher buffer component that will help keep you from having GI issues as readily.

I carry in the bottom of a fanny pack in a zip lock. I take the initial dose in the room then take more every hour as I run.
Thanks Coach C. I do. Use Electrolytes in a similar fashion for similar sweating issues. I only bring them in events/training where temps are higher. I will probably use them for the full.

Yeah, I dumped my super cold clothes, but am still bringing gloves, a fitted lycra shirt (for under main shirt), a technical long sleeve, and arm warmers.

My Peter Pan outfit for the marathon has tights that I will probably wear even with the heat. Peter just doesn't look the same without the tights. They are thin and might also provide some nice compression for the second half of the Goofy.

Good luck Coach!

As for a pre-race dinner, we have reservations at Bongo's. That's where we ate before our first half marathon and so we're going back. Probably have the chicken with some plantains and rice....and I know I shouldn't do this but there may be a mojito involved. I'll drink plenty of water :)

QUESTION! We are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. This is my first time staying here and I just noticed on the back that unlike CSR and POR (the other two moderates I've stayed at), CBR does not have one central location with restaurants, check-in etc, but two: The Custom House (check-in) and Port Royale (with the restaurants). Where will the race buses be?
