It's a WONDER we have any money left after the Cruise! - All done!

You snuck in while I was replying to the other updates! I wish I were eating there soon. I just read Corinna's night at Palo on her TR and she mentioned that Graham had the Lobster Mascarpone Ravioli, I am dying for some of that right now!

That sounds delicious! :hyper:

Still loving your TR. I'm living vicariously through you both. When we had Palo brunch, I never made it to desert. I got full from few pieces of cheese and the margherita pizza, which I LOVED! Wish I could have eaten more, but I seem to get full really quick. Even your Bailey's coffee looks awesome.

Yum yum yum! Seriously looks great! And I can see the chop in those seas. No me gusta.

The Fantasia photos are really neat.

The Bloody Mary looks good too. I am a huge Bloody Mary drinker. :lovestruc

:rotfl2: Gotcha! I liked the Margherita side better. Both were good, and even though I love the blue cheeses, I just wasn't feeling the grapes as much as the tomatoes and mozarella.

You were the hardest to keep the secret from. You were asking, "Are you going to go back to Palo?"

I kept wanting to say, "Sooner than you think!" :thumbsup2

:lmao: :rotfl2:

Dang, I knew I should have gotten the margherita. So on your next cruise, you'll be doing two Palo Brunches and 1 Palo dinner right?

I'm trying to remember, is the Wonder going out of Galveston? Or is it the Dream? I'm hoping one day you can get on the Dream or Fantasy so you can partake of Remy. I think that type of food you would appreciate, since you're a complete foodie.

I simply can not wait! So much delicious food. popcorn::

Did concierge arrange for your second brunch? For your Galveston cruise I think you'll need to book your second one the first afternoon onboard.

We really enjoyed it so much the first time, we had to do it again.

Love Palo. We ordered both pizzas and I'm with you, I like the Margherita one too. We did a brunch and dinner on the cruise last March. I have to wait until November to go to Palo.:sad2:

These updates are killing me... I am si hungry right now and must wait a good hour to eat lunch....

Alison,
everything looks amazing, again sorry that Fran was not feeling well.

Oh I could go for either one of those pizzas right now! I am wanting to be on a cruise right now so badly! The past three years we have cruised in january, we were even booked for a week at AKV and a five night cruise on the Dream for this coming week, but we had to cancel and switch to the Alaska cruise last May because of my husband's job. I think my body knows I'm supposed to be on a ship right now... :beach: Maybe in May, after the semester is over, we'll be able to fit in a quick Mexican Riviera out of CA.

All those cars look amazing! That is definitely an expensive habit to have, though! My neighbor bought a '65 mustang fully restored when he got back from Afghanistan last summer. It's gorgeous, but it's too darn hot to be driving around in an old car with no AC in this miserable desert...

Oh I really hope we can get a Palo brunch reservation on our cruise in June :)

It looks awesome, I need to get some serious eating training in before we go !

As Silver Castaway Club members you can make your reservations at 90 days out.

Corinna

Thanks! That's good to know. I'm only 12 days away then! I better keep up on making small payments on the cruise. By using my CapitalOne card, I have the chance to wipe out the charges later with points.

Graham really loves this dish. I don't seafood with the exception of shrimp every now and again so I cannot comment.

Corinna

I can comment, and it is really great. I know I'll have that one again at dinner!

That sounds delicious! :hyper:

With any sport, training is key. You know competitive eating is considered a sport. :rolleyes1 I found that at my second Palo Brunch I had stretched my stomach with all the eating on the cruise that I was able to eat a little bit more than the first one!

I love my Bloody Marys too, but only on vacation or at celebrations.

:lmao: :rotfl2:

The Magic is out of Galveston and yes we'll be making two Palo Brunch, first and last day and then dinner, we still haven't settled on which night.

I simply can not wait! So much delicious food. popcorn::

Actually we booked the second brunch directly at the restaurant when we were leaving on the first day.

Love Palo. We ordered both pizzas and I'm with you, I like the Margherita one too. We did a brunch and dinner on the cruise last March. I have to wait until November to go to Palo.:sad2:

I’m going to have to get it together so that I can book next Sunday.

These updates are killing me... I am si hungry right now and must wait a good hour to eat lunch....

Alison,

I swear you would think that I would lose weight with all the “not eating” I do at home, but I guess my body goes into starvation mode and stores the calories. I need one of these chefs at my house to have my meals shopped for and ready for me! :lmao:

Hey! If you do it on Carnival they go out of Long Beach! The Mexican Riviera is still a cool itinerary even if Disney doesn’t do it, but I’m thinking of pushing for an Alaskan trip on the Wonder too…I need to figure out what I want to ask for on our next cruise so I’m ready when she starts talking about it! :rotfl2:

Oh and all those cars…the only ones without A/C are the Ranchero and the 1928 and we plan on putting it in!

Oh I really hope we can get a Palo brunch reservation on our cruise in June :)

I’m sure you’ll get in at some point, and ::yes:: training is important! :lmao:

So we left off at Palo Brunch, I had a tequila tasting that afternoon, plus there was a Final Bingo game. My tequila tasting got out just in time for the Bingo game, but because it was the final Bingo, you had to arrive early to buy your Bingo pad and secure a seat. So I sent Fran off to secure us a seat while I went to the tasting.

I decided that on future cruises, I will stay away from the Wine tastings and lean more towards the cocktails only because I am already pretty set in my ways regarding wines and I’m not so interested in tasting a lot of wines that “someone else chooses” for me. On the other hand, I’m really interested in all the different things that can be done with Tequila, Martinis, Mojitos and other beverages that I think those would be much more fun as I have a much more open mind when it comes to spirits.

Here is our selection of tequilas, the first was a silver Patron, the second was an Anejo, they had salt and lime on hand to compliment the tequilas.

DSCN9759.jpg

The third was a coffee flavored tequila, it was quite good, here is our host with the bottle. I tried repeatedly to take a picture of him, but he would not stand still long enough for me to catch a picture of him that wasn’t blurry. I finally reverted to using the flash.

DSCN9761.jpg

We ended with a traditional margarita and a mango margarita. After the tasting I rushed out to the Bingo game. Fran had been able to save me a chair, but we didn’t get a table. Evidently as soon as she pulled up her scooter and set her stuff on the chair next to her, a rude little man came up and grabbed the table from in front of her and took it for himself and his family. That was OK, we used her basket of her scooter to hold the stuff, and played the game anyways. We didn’t win the $5000 jackpot, but we did win one jackpot to cover the cost of our controller and bingo cards. This time we tried the ones that you actually have to punch out. It was a little nerve wracking in that we had to “find the numbers” ourselves and not the little automated machine. But our one winner was on the cards!

After the Bingo game we went up for yet another round of shopping. Fran had been eyeing this crème colored jacket all throughout the cruise and finally decided to buy it. Plus she wanted to get something for Jim and Darcy who had looked in our cats (sort of looking in on the cat sitter, as he is a putz but the only person we know who doesn’t have enough of a life that he can come daily), and then they were selling jewelry by the inch so I got a couple necklaces and bracelets.

DSC00118.jpg

DSC00119.jpg

You would think that these things were a bargain, and essentially they were, however, it was still a lot more than I had expected….

Here is a shot of Fran with the gal who ran the art auctions and sales. She sort of was like a friend to us on the ship. She was from Australia and we enjoyed chatting with her about a variety of subjects throughout the cruise. She seemed to like talking to us when she was bored at her work.

DSCN9763.jpg

I’m not sure when she bought them, but we also ended up with a full set of figurines for all the Disney ships, we got a few Mickey and Minnie plush toys, some books and I really don’t know what else. I’m sure that there were some pins in there! Plus rice krispie treats and other goodies that we both enjoyed. :goodvibes

Next we headed over to the Amber Jewelry display. They were having a game where you could try and guess which of three pieces of jewelry were fake and then the winners of the guesses would be drawn at 8PM that evening for a piece of Amber jewelry. Fran and I both guessed the same piece and turned in our entries. We found out that the winner needed to be present to win.

Then we began to peruse the jewelry for items to purchase. We picked out this one as a Christmas present for my Mother.

DSC00034.jpg

I have an Amber pendant that Fran bought me a long time ago and we picked up these earrings and ring for me to go along with that.

Fran got these rings for herself

For the past couple days we had been talking about a future cruise from Galveston. I had submitted a quote, and it came back really high, but that’s because I asked about a CL room and there were no discounts on that one. I submitted another one earlier that day and we stopped by the desk, and the gentleman was there. I asked if he still had our quote or if it had been delivered to our room. He pulled it out right away. “How did you know who we were?” I asked.

“Well, you are the only one who asked for a quote on an HA room.” I guess the scooter gave us away! :rolleyes1 He had again quoted us on the CL room, so I asked a couple questions which led me to believe that I could live without a bathtub in the room if the price were right. He requoted us at the next level down. Not category T, but Verandah room on Deck 7.

I was astonished at the drop in price! It was about 2/5 the cost of the CL cruise. I had asked about three different sailing dates, so we told him that we would go back to the room and talk over the various dates and turn in our card with the booking before the end of the cruise.

Then we headed up to the top deck for a drink of the day. It was so cold up there that Fran immediately put on her new jacket. She got herself a soda while I ordered the drink. The staff is so good on these ships, the bartender remembered from another day that I didn’t like coconut rum, but he offered to substitute regular rum in whatever the drink was. I can’t remember now. It was good though.

The water was so choppy I took these pictures of the pool, notice the water going.

For the rest of the afternoon I worked on packing up our clothes. The suitcases needed to be outside our door by 10:30PM, and we had a lot of clothes to pack. Either she laid down for a nap or went down to the internet café, either way, I was diligently packing up the suitcases, making sure that I had kept clothes for us to wear off the ship.

WOW! The jewellery pieces and chains are gorgeous. I love the look of them. Selling by the length is a great idea.

I did A (notice the singular) Tequila slammer once. I think I was out cold for the rest of the night! Dang my lack of alcohol tolerance!

When you get this worked out, let me know how it goes and I will start the same thing too.

I love the jewellery.

I have never tried any of the wine tastings and don't think I would enjoy them, but love the cocktail tastings. The Tequilla/ Margarita Tasting is a firm favourite. On the Magic I did not get the Patron XO Cafe this time round. I was originally introduced to this on the Magic and love it. I always have a bottle at home, which is enjoyed very sparingly as it is so hard to get in the UK.

Thanks! I prefer the longer chains (25+ inches) and they are very difficult to find where I usually shop for jewelry (Costco :lmao:) Just like eating competitions....it takes practice! :rotfl:

When you get this worked out, let me know how it goes and I will start the same thing too.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

the jewelry is beautiful, I am jealous...

Thanks! I can't wait to take some of it on my trip to WDW, especially the Mickey ones.

Wow, the boat must have been rockin' by the looks of the pool! :scared1:

It was! I had to hold the handrails walking down the corridors the way the ship was reeling.

I love the jewellery.

That XO was the only liquor I was seriously considering buying on the ship because it was so unique. I think I would have like the wine tastings if we were comparing all chardonnays, or all zinfandels, or Cabernets. It just wasn't that great trying four samples of different wines, for me that's called "drinks with dinner!" :rotfl: But seriously, I think the cocktail tastings are much more interesting and will try those on the Magic.

Since dinner was at 8:30 and the drawing for the Amber necklace took place at 8PM we decided to head over there around 7:45. We had decided on the April 20, 2013 sailing on the Magic for six nights out of Galveston and on our way to the drawing we turned in our booking card (or maybe I made a special trip down there before we went out for the night, I don’t really remember). Anyways there were quite a few people there for the Amber drawing. It took place where they were selling the Amber, right in the foyer to the Walt Disney Theater.

Imagine this area with the sales table in between the Christmas trees, and all the chairs filled with guests and people also standing around the area as well. Only the people who guessed correctly on the Amber were included in the drawing. We both had guessed correctly. Fran doesn’t remember why she chose piece #2 as the false Amber, but I picked it because it was too perfect. Real Amber is full of imperfections and that is the beauty of the pieces. If there is a bug stuck in it, the value increases exponentially.

DSCN9132.jpg

So anyways, the lady started drawing names out of the bag. She would call the name and stateroom number and the first one was not present, neither was the second, nor the third….this continued until she called, “Alison, Stateroom 8102”. I jumped up! :yay: Fran said that I was the 13th name called. Who says 13 is not a lucky number! This was my prize.

DSC00121.jpg

As I sit here today writing this TR, I sort of feel bad that I won the prize, though it is a very pretty necklace. I already had an Amber necklace. When I look at the two together, I’m not sure how often I might wear the winning one. Especially since my necklace and ring complement the original necklace perfectly!

DSC00141.jpg

But I digress. On our way to dinner, we passed by the Future Cruise desk and the booking guy stopped us to give us our confirmation of the new cruise! Eventually we went down to Animator’s Palate for our final dinner of the ship, the “Til We Meet Again” Menu.

She had the Lobster and Crawfish Bisque

While I had the Potato and Leek Soup

DSCN9784.jpg

She went for the Beef Wellington (which was a very good choice).

DSCN9786.jpg

A few days before we left happenin2you had just wrapped up the Cruise portion of her TR and she had the Seafood Linguine Pasta on this menu. I remember it looked really good, but I was torn between that and the Lamb. As the servers are always eager to please, Ridwan was happy to bring me one of each! The lamb was way to over done for my liking, but the pasta was just superb!

DSCN9787.jpg

DSCN9788.jpg

Then they brought us the dessert menus.

DSCN9789.jpg

DSCN9790.jpg

DSCN9791.jpg

Fran had the Celebration Cake

DSCN9792.jpg

I didn’t really fancy any of the menu items and then I remembered! You can order a Mickey bar for dessert as a substitution at any time! I hadn’t had one ALL cruise so I took advantage of this treat!

DSCN9793.jpg

Fran just loves to capture me in unflattering poses! :lmao:

DSCN9794.jpg

Our server loved when she would ride the scooter into the dining room and he could take it back out for her. In fact he was practically falling all over himself to bring her back the scooter after dinner.

DSCN9798.jpg

And of course we came back to find our final towel creation of the cruise.

DSCN9799.jpg

At this point, I think I came back the room alone. Fran decided to go to the Internet café and use up whatever minutes we had left. She ended up telling me that she kept falling asleep at the computer so who knows if she used them up or not. I had packed up our suitcases and put them outside the door before she came back to the room and was quite asleep before I woke up and noticed her asleep next to me.

Alison!! Congratulations on Lucky 13th!

And anytime you want to ship that necklace over to me, do so. I'm more than happy to wear it!

Congrats on winning.... That is awesome.

Also congrats on booking the next cruise, that is going to be a great cruise.

The food again looks very good, plus it is lunch time here.
