Deluxe room prices are outrageous!!!

Not only was I told when taking the customer service training class at Disney that we could use any of the pools. We were also told at the resorts that it was okay and have never had any problems doing so.

They are high. I guess I'm used to traveling. Last year, I went to Norway to see the Aurora Borealis and looking at the prices in USD almost made me swallow my tongue, much less Dresden during Advent, London, etc. But I would always prefer locations to amenities, esp in WDW. But I always love a discount if I can get one!

Like in New Orleans, I can either stay in the French Quarter for locations or on Canal for amenities, for the same money. I choose the French Quarter for location

My biggest problem lately is the price you pay for a deluxe room and our past 3 trips at beach yacht and boardwalk the rooms seemed extremely worn, mold in shower pulls in carpet, dents in furniture, filthy balconies etc etc If they want to charge nearly 500 dollars a night then my room better be close to perfect! Trust me I have complained about my past trips to disney customer relations. Don't charge a ritz Carlton night per stay and have a run downed hotel room just cuz you are close to a park it's only a matter of time before we stop our semi annual trips and just stay at the Waldorf if I'm gonna spend this kind of $ I might as well be staying in a resort that truly is a5 star resort. Quite frankly Disney should be ashamed of themselves for the price u pay and the condition of the rooms i have been assigned in each one of the above resorts. the more I think about it I'm at fault for continuing to stay at a deluxe resort when I feel this way after each trip. Maybe I'm super picky but for almost 500 bucks a night I guess I have the right to be.

Seems like Disney has decided to go crazy high on everything this year.We paid more pp in Nov staying at POR (with dance the magic "discount") than we did Poly MKV a few years back. We did Dream balcony room for five for under 4800 this year a 7 day Fantasy same exact room and 3 weeks later was 9980!: There were reports of the Disney suites on Fantasy jumping from 17,000 for the peak summer week to 35,000 for seven days Even those rich enough to consider the suite balked at 35,00. So we left two kids home for DM and didn't book 2014 cruise opening day which was 2 weeks before Christmas. Seems like when Roy Disney died Disney decided to get greedier by the year.

If we go next year, it will probably be Deluxe. If the discounts aren't what we hope, we'll consider a cruise (non-Disney; we can't afford Disney cruises) instead. We can get a 7 night cruise to Bermuda out of NY for less that the price of a Disney vacation, since there's no airfare to consider.

What I'll probably do is book something when the 2014 prices come out, and just keep an eye on the dates for a refund of my deposit.

Long ago it was fine. The rules have changed. And all pools have signs up stating they are for use by that resort's guests only. Some even ask to see room keys, and kick you out if you don't have one for that resort.

Now, pool hopping is not allowed (unless you are DVC and follow their rules).

I remember paying $320/night rack rate at the end of May for one of the four honeymoon rooms at WL - the last time I saw that room rate I about choked. It wasn't that long ago that you could get a room at CR or Poly for under $300 - closer to $200 with AP discount. Of course I remember the $49/night AP rate at the values and $79 at the moderates - really not that long ago.

But, if they can fill the rooms why would they decrease the cost? We've been DVC since 2002, but have always like to add a weekend at a different place from time to time. Especially when weekend points were so much more, which they aren't now. Unless we can get a CM discount through a family friend we don't bother. We have started doing the weekends at Universal and find the hotels are all far nicer and the rates (AP) comparable to Disney moderates, but the perks and service superior.

I was thinking of staying at a deluxe and priced out the contemporary-Garden room. I always thought they were "cheap". I just checked for our dates in November and they are $487/night. I could not believe it. It's not Thanksgiving week either. The other deluxe resorts prices are outrageous as well. I can't believe disney can find people to pay these prices.

Have you seen the price of a Porsche lately or even a high end BMW? Have you ever checked out how much it costs to travel first class? How about a 25 year old Scotch or a 60" OLED TV?

There are always people who will pay a lot of money for luxury. I don't believe all of these rooms are filled with discounts only.

So Universal rates are cheaper on weekends? We had to cancel our precruise Universal trip but I agree the perks of staying onsite there were fantastic. Guess our next WdW trip is 5 days with 2 at US on the weekend. We really want to see what is like over there especially HP.

A room at the Poly is far from the level of luxury a Porsche provides. I've had better suites at a Drury on the Riverwalk for $120 a night. You offered a Porsche or high end BMW as an example when in the hotel universe a Disney Deluxe is more the caliber of a Subaru. Yet, I agree - they are charging Porsche prices.

I'm not usually one to harp on the whole pool hopping thing, but it isn't a matter of being nice - use the pool you pay for. It really isn't anything understated or a wink wink nod nod kind of thing... The rules for sister resorts and DVC are clear and the rules prohibiting pool hopping are more so. Use the pool you've paid for instead of the one paid for by another guest.

We have fallen in love with it and our kids have too. WWoHP is outstanding! The rates on weekend are higher than during the week, but overall significantly less than Disney for better quality resorst. We're paying $184 a night for MLK weekendat RPH. I think we paid $169 for HRH last Labor Day. With FOTL you can maneuver the parks easily and see everything without feeling rushed. Its the perfect weekend.

Actually I think there is an argument for staying at Universal and driving to Disney based on resort perks, but that's another story.

I pay those outrageous prices for a Deluxe resort, in no small part because of the pool-- my kids are total water rats. But we save at least a year, ususally more than a year, to be able to afford the Deluxe amenities at the Deluxe resorts.

I would be very unhappy to know that "being nice" was all it took for someone who hadn't paid for it to get the lounge chair my kids,my husband or I were unable to get.

Those outrageous prices I pay for a Deluxe resort include those Deluxe pools. Please continue to be nice. But please use the amenities for which you pay, not those for which I pay. Theft of services is not "nice."

What does being nice have to do with pool hopping? I wonder if I am "nice" would they allow my family to stay deluxe for the price of a value (which we always stay in).

You're seriously comparing a Porsche to a Disney "deluxe" room? A Disney deluxe has a nice exterior, lobby, and landscaping. The rooms are no better than a Holiday Inn or at best a Hilton.

Ok my curiosity got the better of me and I looked at a room at the Poly starting the Sat before Mother day and the MKV was 750 Now the two times I stayed 2009+ 2010 were 4-3free deal and our kids were 1 adult ticket and 2 kids. Now they are two adult tickets. 2010 our 7 nights all inclusive was 4800 2013 with 20% discount rate is 5400. $71 a night more.

I would expect our rates to be higher with another adult MEAL/TICKET plan and a bit higher after 4 yrs. So it might be that Disney is making room rack rates crazy high so packages which have gone up a good bit look like a bargain. My son can easily eat $70 at WdW rates since I just paid full price for food in Nov and know how much they punish those not on dinning plan. so while I would be upset with the increase and might spend time at US its not as bad as I first thought. Plus I always pay with gift cards and get fuel perks at my grocery store. When they double the perks I get 23 cents off 30 gallons of gas for every $50. ($13.80 off every $100) Our cruise we paid everything even taxes and tips with giftcards and got over $700 back in free gas. In this case my real bill would be 4700 . So wdw doesn't get quite as much from me as it thinks
