Hollywood Brown Derby - Grapefruit Cake @ Starring Rolls?

We have the recipe and make it -- it is my favorite cake.

After we ate it the first time, I found the recipe when we got home. I made it for my dad's birthday a few weeks later. Not sure what I did wrong, but it was horrible! Our family still laughs about it now. I've never tried to make it again!

Starring Rolls closes earlier than I would have expected, and even when it is open, the grapefruit cake is not always available. Your best bet really is dinner at the Brown Derby!

We are leaving for our vacation Tuesday (EPCOT)/Wednesday (MK)/Thursday (UO)/Friday(AK)/..............Saturday is our DHS day so I'll let you know how my grapefruit cake experience turned out! We finish up at IOA/WWoHP on Sunday and head home.

I did call and cancel my ressies for HBD so I am hopeful that I can get my cake at Starring Rolls!

I am ready to go now!! I have to work tomorrow and it will be the longest day ever!

Can't wait to hear how it goes!! Have the BEST time!!!

I'll have to try to find the recipe, in the event that we're not able to get it at Starring Rolls... and, if I don't have any luck with the recipe, I'll convince DH that he didn't miss anything ...

You can ask for the recipe at the HBD podium. They have the Grapefruit Cake and Cobb Salad recipes printed up on Derby shaped cards.

Starring Rolls closes around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

Thanks for your response!! DH is really, really hoping we'll be as lucky. That is, in fact, his only request ... lol. But, he doesn't (nor, do I) want to incur the price of an actual meal at HBD... so, I hope that we're as lucky!! Thanks, again!!

If you can get another ADR...you can just order dessert...you don't have to eat a full meal there.

I got a piece in August of this year and I asked when it wasn't super busy. They got it no problem and it was pricey like someone else said, but I really wanted to try it. Definetly easy to do and wouldn't book a whole meal just to try that as this was no prob. Also, wouldn't want to eat it while I'm already stuffed!

I have the recipe from a very old issue of the (now defunct) Disney Magazine and have made it many times. There were several years between when we had it at Brown Derby and when I got the recipe so I can't comment on how it compares to the original, but its usually what DH requests that I make for his birthday.

I was able to buy it at Starring Rolls in both January and August. If you ask a CM and they don't know what you're talking about, ask them to talk to someone who has worked there for awhile. Both times I got a fairly new CM and they had to ask their supervisor, but both times they were more than happy to get it for me. And yes, it is a pricey piece of cake, but very tasty!
