Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Finished my 7 mile run in what started in cool overcast weather and quickly went to sunny humidity. No falls this week! Other than feeling some training burnout and fund raising failure, it was a good run. Now if I can just get the "failure" mantra out of my head while running... :thumbsup2

Did 8 on the treadmill this morning. I have a love/hate relationship with the treadmill. 1. I run a lot slower on there, and 2. I feel crappy about how slow I run on the treadmill (2 minutes/mile slower).

Then I get on Facebook and someone posted how they ran 2 miles on the treadmill in 19 minutes and "they know that sucks."

But of course, I did 8 and they only did 2, and next Sunday I am running a marathon!!! :thumbsup2

Finished my first 1/2 and I must say I feel great! Thanks for all the advice here. i used compression sleeves on my calfs and wouldn't have survived the hills without them. I can hardly wait for the PHM

I'm unsure of what to do now with my training. Took 3 weeks off for tendonitis and last week did a short 2.5 mile run/walk and then did a 20 mile treadmill run. The day after, had pain in the opposite foot and it's tendonitis also. I haven't run in a week. Should I even bother trying to get in another run or two before the marathon? I'm honestly worried at this point of injuring anything again.

Are those 3 weeks going to come back and haunt me next weekend? Or is the fact that I could do 20 miles after 3 weeks off a good thing?

Guess I'm sticking with my tights. I have to get something to o over them. I've had DH point out that the Revolution tights are a little sheer in the back.

Team sparkle skirts are skirts you wear over your preferred bottom. I've worn them for 6 races now from 5k to marathon and love their skirts. I don't train in them, but since they go over the bottoms I usually wear I don't even notice I'm wearing it.

As far as the running skirts go. I wear the skirts with the compression shorts underneath, and use lots of body glide to keep the shorts from riding up. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a whole new type of bottom if you are used to tights.

I think the latter, and I would only go out for a short shake-out run to see how your're feeling. I tend to err on the side of "give your legs a rest".

Hope your tendonitis heals quickly.

I can't stand when people say "oh I ran this much at this pace and I was sooooo slow." first off, it's rude and secondly, it's clear they are either showing off or feel bad about themselves so need to make sure others who read it feel bad about themselves too.

Obviously I have seen this too on fb lately. Just say "I ran today! Go me!"

Let's all say that. I ran today! Go me!

Remembering I am not a doctor, I would take NSAIDs for the next 3-4 days in an effort to lessen the lingering inflammation in the feet. I would ice the sore areas if still showing pain and sit back and watch the playoffs today.

At your option based upon how you feel, a run tomorrow , Monday or Tuesday that in rather short may be in order to relax the mind. In addition or optionally, I would think of running a light and playful run the morning after arriving at WDW. I want to emphasize that if you are feeling gun-shy these are optional and I would not make any of them. I like the Friday morning run just to shake out the stress of traveling with friends and family to MCO and to loosen up the legs and clear the mind.

I would not take NSAIDs the day prior to the race and then not until your renal system is back to normal post race.

Finally, if you do not make another run until race day, you will still be OK on the run. Just start off a little slow in the first mile and play the rest of the day by ear.

Have fun. You will make the finish in fine fashion

I tried to download my waiver last night and the system said I wasn't found. No big deal, I figured it was a system problem. Still today I can't find either myself or my husband. I do have my confirmation of registration, but was hoping to get everything ready today since I have to fly tomorrow for a business meeting and from there directly to Orlando. Hopefully there won't be a problem getting our bibs at the expo! :confused3 Anyone else having a problem?

Enjoy your last few days before the race and I hope everyone stays healthy for the next week.

I used to get miffed about the I ran a slow 7 minute pace thing, but then decided that 90% of the time these runners were younger than me, did not have as rich a life as me or had more God given talent than me. I guess I got past it as I coached a few truly talented runners. I had to say go out and run a slow 6 at a 6:30 minute pace.

Just remember, we are not running against anyone but ourselves... (well except the 3-6 folks who are running for the hardware) Our jobs are to say with pride that I ran today.

Then there is the fact that for a marathon, many of us can say after the race "anyone can run 2:20 ... It takes a real marathoner to run 7 (fill in the blank) hours."

Bring your receipts. You will not have a problem at the expo with those in hand. Try again tomorrow or later in the week. There are terminals at the expo for printing them if they do not work prior to then.. or you may just want to head to Runner Relations instead.

I will post if I feel I was slow. I certainly don't mean to make anyone feel bad. I just felt slow that day. That's all. :)

I never received an email about the waivers, when did you get yours?

Check your receipts for typos. If you misspelled your last name or have a number from your birthdate off your name wouldn't come up. It's worth a shot! GL!

I looked at ours a couple weeks ago, but didn't print them. And now they can't find us either.

something must be going on with the website.

I find no problem with someone mentioning how slow they felt with their pace and distance because for me there is a better understanding for a comparison.

This week I had 2 walks of 4.25 miles each. I think most people would read this and think that was nice and leave it at that. Now if I posted that I actually walked one at a 10:01mpm pace and the other at a 9:38mpm pace, another walker or a jogger/runner might have a problem that I could relate to or I could ask them a question if I knew their pace was similar.

Not bragging, just providing food for thought and maybe an opening for helpful advice.

Pasta in the park night before marathon? Thoughts? Opinions from previous years?

We are toying with idea since tickets still available.

I was on the Run Disney Facebook page earlier and it seems nobody can find themselves so I checked and sure enough, nothing for me either. Seems to be a website issue. It's a good thing I had already printed out my waiver.

I can't give you an opinion from experience, but my DH and I are doing the Pasta in the Park Thursday night. I don't want to be out that late the night before the race. (Plus, my prerace meal is pizza, not pasta :thumbsup2)

I thought about this (for the half) but ultimately decided to pass. I think it will be too much time on our feet and out too late considering the early start. We're not staying on property so I'm looking at waking up around 2ish--yikes!

It sounds fun though!!
