Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Three --- NOW FULL / CLOSED

We have three kids (8,5 and 2) and are currently booked in a preferred room which means an AB room with a murphy bed. I like that all five of us will be able to sleep on a regular mattress but I am concerned that we will have no room for storing clothes and suitcases. I am wondering if I should change to one of the new royal rooms (which I prefer the decor of) and use a pack n play for our 2 year old. Can you fit a pack n play in the royal rooms? They seem like they have more space for storage. Thoughts?

Well what will the two older children be ok sharing a bed?

We just got back from a week at Riverside in a room with a Murphy bed. We loved the luxury of being able to spilt up our 7 and 4 year olds. We found that we had lots of storage. We stored clothes in the 3 drawers under the Murphy bed and in piles on the shelf above the rod in the closet . We used the 2 shelves beside the fridge for the food we brought and used the night stand between the bed as more storage. We bought a $3 organizer from a dollar store that hangs from the closer and it was perfect for odd and ends. We used one suitcase to store our winter gear we didn't need in Florida and one for our dirty laundry. We didn't even utalize the the shelf under the double sink. We did keep on top of he room but it worked well and I could see having 3 kids in the room with no problems. We brought very little in the way of toys and they weren't missed at all. Enjoy your trip.

but I don't understand how it works if everyone is requesting the same area then clearly everyone isn't going to get what they want!

Bear in mind that the people here are 'in the know', but we are very much in the minority - although I think a growing number. Probably 80% of guests just book their family a Disney vacation and only find out what the hotel even looks like when they get there. (They are also the unfortunate people who find they can't get a meal at any of the table-service restaurants because they are full with pre-booked guests)

I hesitate to ask because you've provided so much information already, but do you happen to know which room #s are the King bed rooms?

Can I come back to you on that one, need to ask some questions first...

Absolutely! Thank you so very much!

Thanks for waiting. So now, if you'd like to check out the site again (www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php) you'll find that all of the Port Orleans building floor plans have been magically upgraded with pixie dust and now include all of the room category information too (plus details of the Accessible room locations while I was at it).

I would like to pass on my grateful personal thanks to the manager at the resort who provided me with a spreadsheet detailing all of the category information (all 3,056 lines of it!!) and then gave me permission to use that list to cross-reference the information into my new floor plans.

This whole project has been a lot of work (and I mean a LOT of work!) but I'm really happy with the end results and I hope people will find the information useful. Hopefully it should also help answer more of the "so are there any River View/Water View/King Beds in the preferred buildings?" type questions which we've been seeing a lot of recently.

Please could I ask that people do not bombard the resort with requests for specific room numbers though. This info is better used as a general guide rather than as a "checklist for the perfect vacation". It's still preferable to let them know WHAT you want from your room and WHY, rather than requesting one specific room number (which might not even be available during your stay).

Enjoy! I'm going to go and lie down somewhere quiet now...

I agree about not making specific room request. On top of what you said it generally makes it harder to grant requests if you put down room numbers for usually those are generally taken and if they cant satisfy that the may just put you anywhere they want.

It is ok to request areas and I do welcome PMs still.

We are here now and the resort is beautiful!! We got exactly the type of room location we requested(thank you so much venomhatch!) and it is fantastic!!
The buses have been great for us so far, no waits, no super busy. I hope that trend continues, I'll keep you posted! Andre, any thing you need while we're here?

Thanks, Venom. We might buy some Wolfgang Puck pods just in case. We aren't too into flavors, but we do like good coffee.

That's why I brought my Keurig (I never spell that right!). Also because my fiance drinks coffee all day long, so it was convenient.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the storage space under the sinks! We used that too! lol Thanks for mentioning it!

OK, I confess, the storage thing has me worried. Our trip is 2 weeks long. Yes, for the first time ever I am going to have to do laundry in WDW. But it is still my vacation so I will only be doing a couple of loads, 1 time, mid trip. ;)

As I see it, perhaps I better start saving wire dry cleaning type hangers to hang shirts and shorts in the closet and save the drawers for things that can't hang?

And where does everyone keep their suitcases? In the closet? We will probably have 4 with us.

TIA!

ETA: We are booked in a non-Royal room and are hoping to be in Magnolia Bend, somewhere.

We have booked standard room in Mansions, I requested top floor wasn't sure of where to request ??

Andre..thanks for the layouts that show the details of the views. I do have a question. Are the rooms with the Murphy beds spread out all across the AB area or are they in specific buildings?

Aw, shucks, thanks...

By the way, I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I've also compiled PDF versions for each area (POR-AB, POR-MB and POFQ) which can be downloaded for viewing locally. Download them via:

Alligator Bayou
Magnolia Bend
French Quarter

OMG! Andre, you rock my world! I'm so glad we're staying at POR, for no other reason than these threads and your website! Absolutely AMAZEBALLS. I really can't thank you enough. I am so excited about our trip; I wish it was next month instead of 9 months away!

They are in every room in the Alligator Bayou section, including all the King Bed rooms. Not in the mansion buildings though. I don't know about the Disability Accessible rooms though, I'm guessing that the extra wardrobe probably takes up too much space there.

Hmmmm.... that is VERY interesting about them being in the king bed rooms. Does that mean that would be a bookable category for a party of 3? (Thinking ahead for next fall when DH comes along....)

Just booked our first stay at POR for May 2013! :yay:

Had debated back and forth forever on going with POR or AOA suite. Sat down last night to book AOA, but when it came down to it, I just couldn't swallow the cost! Decided to go with POR instead, and I'm very happy with that now.

I see so many posts about people requesting rooms close to the main building/transportation, etc. I just have to ask - am I the only one that wants to be out in the boonies? Just looking at the pics, I think it would be great to be "lost" somewhere out in the back of the bayou, lol! We have small children, but the walking doesn't deter me at all. Just curious if I'm the only oddball. :)
Def not.. we prefer the outter buildings also..
