Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. :confused3

I just booked a vacation to Southern Cali for next December (3-10). Is that swimming pool weather? Ocean weather? Keep in mind I'm from freezing cold Rocky Mountain cold Canada, and heck, we swim in anything. :rotfl2:

Thanks, friends!

If you will swim in 70 water then you are good to go. Ocean in the 50's.

Pool - if you are brave.
Ocean - No Way Jose!

I live in So Cal, so take my advice accordingly.
You did pick a great week to experience everything before the Christmas crowds swarm in. :thumbsup2

Hi! I'm also from Alberta. 3 years ago we went to DL at Christmas, and we couldn't skip the beach because my boys had never seen the ocean. We were the only ones on the beach that day. It was cool, temp wise, but we still had a blast playing in the waves, collecting shells, walking in the sand. All of my boys, including dh, got pretty soaked. My teenage nephew who was with us went out pretty deep - chest deep I'd say. It was something I'm SO glad we did and would not have missed at all. As for pool swimming, I didn't swim at all - I wanted to save my energy for the parks, but I think my mil, who also traveled with us, took the kids swimming one night. I know dh, and the nephew & the teenage niece also hit the hot tub at least one night.

I honestly don't remember what the temps were while we were there. I want to say highs of mid to high 60s. I know we wore jackets in the mornings & in the evenings, but were fine in long pants & short sleeves during the day when it was sunny.

HTH!

I'm from Iowa, its cold here in the winter also. There is no way I would go into the ocean in December. A pool yes, but not the ocean, that would be to cold. My wife even got cold just walking down the beach with the coastal breeze coming in. Go ahead and visit the beach, we go to Huntington Beach Pier every time we go and eat out at Rubys Diner at the end of the peir, but I wouldnt swim.

Heres a couple of links that tells you about Rubys, its a great place to eat with a great view. If your lucky whales and dolphins and sharks will swim by while your eating. Be sure and get a window seat if possible.

I'm so excited to dip my toes in the ocean again! In '10 we were there in January, and it was cold, but not as cold as a mountain lake in summer!

Thanks for all the advice!

We swim every December in the GCH pool. We play on the beach, but don't swim. We are from the Central Valley of Ca. My sister and nieces came down from Valdez last January and wore shorts every day while we were in jeans and sweatshirts . I think it's all in what you are use to.
