2013 BOOK CHALLENGE! Are you in?

How fun, I want to join! I needed a fun New Years resolution, and this is right up my alley. Reading is my favorite hobby! :cloud9: I'm one of those types who doesn't read anything to deep....mainly fiction; chick lit, romance, some suspense. Every now and then I will indulge in the occasional self help book or memoir.

My goal will be 24 books. I don't have a backlog, but I'll make sure to have something lined up as I finish each book....that way there's no downtime! :thumbsup2

I don't know how to join a group for goodreads. I forgot about that app. You can add me to the existing group.

Do a search for DISreaders on goodreads and request to join. I'll add you!

Can I join? I love love love to read!!! I write down the books I read every month and just counted what I read for the year. 177! I don't know if I could do that again, but I would love to try. Maybe put me down for 100. I would love to try to reach that, but who knows what this year will bring. :rotfl: This is such a great idea!

How should graphic novels be counted number wise? At least for TWD some of them are pretty thin.

Count me in! I think I'll make my goal 52 books. According to Goodreads I read 40 books in 2012, but I may have forgotten to record a book or two. A book a week should be doable. I'm in the middle of reading The Fault in our Stars right now and then I have 223 on my to read list. I don't think I'll have a problem finding 52 books to read.

Hey, a book is a book, is a book....if a publisher says10, 100, or 500 pages is a book, who am I to argue?

I'm in! Because I'm a teacher, I find it very challenging to get reading in, but have been doing more lately. I just finished Wicked and am now reading A Discovery of Witches. There's a book club thread over on the DIS Unplugged forum discussing it. :)

Put me down for 12 and anything beyond that will be a bonus!

I'll play, I'll aim for 24 books - two a month. I've read 6 in the last week but then I go through times when I don't read hardly anything and wonder why not as I enjoy it so much.

Sounds fun! I used to be a reader, but not so much lately. I will set my goal at 12. Will start with "Yes Chef", I got it for Christmas. Looking forward to it!

I will join in....I think I will set a goal at 30 books for 2013. I just ordered a few books to start the year:
Death Comes To Pemberley by P.D. James
Shroud for a Nightingale by P.D. James
Triptych by Karin Slaughter
All The Pretty Girls by J.T. Ellison
14 by J.T. Ellison
and I have a few Lisa Jackson books at home that I haven't read yet.

I prefer crime thrillers and historical fiction -- most of my books fall into these two categories.

I think you'll love the P.D. James books. I read "Shroud" probably 25-30 years ago and got hooked on this author. "Pemberly" combines my two favorite things - Jane Austen and mystery.

I joined Goodreads last night, both to get recommendations and to record books that I've read. I selected seven categories and just started clicking away. When I looked at my final lists, I was astounded to see that I had rated 50 books and wanted to read 50 books in every category! I swear I hadn't been counting, it just ended up that way. I was too tired to try to figure it out last night, but I want to print out a list of my "want to reads" to take to the bookstore today.

I'm in too, put me down for 25 books!!!! Going to check out Goodreads now

I'm in!!! 72 books please.

The Book Off here has great sales and I am looking forward to reading the 19th Wife and I found a biography on Lady Jane Grey.

I would love to join this challenge! I love to read but just don't have the time this year. It's been an extremely busy one. But DH got me a Kindle for Christmas so I'm hoping that should make it easier.
Normally for me it would be much more but I'll stick to a realistic goal and set it at 25 books for the year. (2 per month),

What an awesome idea! Thanks for starting!!

Love this! I was always an avid reader until I got my iPad. Since then, instead of reading every night, I fool around playing games and reading Facebook on the iPad until I fall asleep. This year, it's back to reading for me! Two that are high on my list are The 12 Tribes of Hattie and Defending Jacob. Going to look for an App to track my reading.

Updated the first post up through here.

Happy New Year everyone! And now we officially begin.

As you complete each book, remember to come back here and post what # you've just finished. We'd love the book title too and whether you'd recommend it or not, but not necessary. Important thing is that we have a way to track our goals and share our progress with other readers. :thumbsup2

177 books???? :faint: I'm so jealous, lol.

I'd love to join, too. I think I'll go with 70 books. I don't have any specific titles, but have a number of books stored on my kindle. I tend to just read what appeals to me at the moment.

I'm Nancy Girard on Goodreads if anyone wants to friend me :)

I started 11/22/63 about 1/2 hour ago :thumbsup2 I started it last August and read a few pages then got busy and never went back to it. I started all over again today!

Absolutely the BEST book I read in 2012!!! Night Circus was very different, but a close second. Enjoy!
