Sister Wives

The bankruptcy applications are interesting.

Janelle claimed to spend $50 a month on food and $45 a month for charitable contributions. What-the-heck.

I agree about the drama about the houses and the financing is stale. We're not dumb. We all know the show has allowed them to build four large new homes.
I also agree that the next season's drama will be about Meri's big decision. They will drag it out and suck that one dry for all it's worth.

I also wonder why the older kids do not go out and get jobs to contribute to the household.
Do any of the kids play in team sports or do any other activities? Seems like all they do is hang around the house.

I don't know why I keep watching this show....nothing ever happens and the constant weeping is driving me insane.

Wet bar...<eye roll>
I agree that the whole Meri decision is getting old. We are all very aware that she doesn't want another kid. The discussion has been going on for years, heck I remember in the first season when Christine was having Truley, she was discussing with Kody about being a possible surrogate for Meri. It's not going to happen.

The only kid they have mentioned being in an some kind of sport is Hunter.

Also, I would like know where Janelle is shopping to feed a family of 6 kids for $50 a month.

I think the point a PP made that Robyn has the same number of kids by Cody as Meri does was very interesting. Has anyone else noticed how often Meri is taking care of Solomon? Or how sad Robyn always looks? I wonder if there's some post-partum depression there. Or maybe just regret that she joined this family of wackadoos.

They make 75k per adult per episode.

That is not bad so why are they so in debt especially when it comes to the houses. HOW the heck much does each house cost? Seriously!

If they do 20 shows per year.....that is over 1.5 million per year. I know have at least 16 most likely more per year.

Wow, those bankruptcy papers were interesting! I guess when Kody and Meri filed, they included Kody's other kids? Since they only actually have one together. And it was interesting that until two years ago Christine was getting food stamps.

Wonder where they would be today without the show, given their financial situation there. And what will happen to them when it ends.

I wonder if they even plan it deliberately: "we'll put everything on Janelle's credit cards, then let her go bankrupt" so that all those debts are effectively cancelled. Then while Janelle builds her credit back up, they put everything on Meri's credit cards, and again go bankrupt. Debts cancelled. But no problem, now they can put things on Christine's credit cards. By the time she goes bankrupt, Janelle will be able to have a credit card again and they can start the cycle over.

TP

I thought that was interesting too that Meri and Kody had a house full of kids on their bankruptcy application.
You are probably right in thinking that they take turns filing for bankruptcy. Now they are in a different state. Wonder what the Nevada bankruptcy laws are and when we will see the first filing once this show ends.

I must admit that I missed the bankruptcy thing! I was half watching . Can anyone fill me on this? I must have really been out of it.

I don't think that it has really been mentioned on the show - other than they have credit issues. Someone found the information online and posted it here.

But isn't their whole argument for pro plural marriage based on them being one big family, not 4 seperate families that share a man? Being one big family means sharing the resources and sacrificing for one another. Doing what's best for the group should be top priority. Unless, of course, you are Meri.

Even when they split it evenly. she STILL couldn't stay on budget. The other wives, with 5 times as many kids each, were more than willing to work within the budgets set up for them, Meri was the only one who went over. She acted like a spoiled, selfish princess and it left a horrible impression. Even my 15 year old dd said "wow, she whines a lot, she needs to get over herself." LOL

She went over budget but she was paying that out of her own money.

If they were one family they would have one home with kids sharing who had different moms. They always live separate and the Utah home was not even. Janelle had the most room and Meri had the least. Robin had more room that Meri when she arrived. Maybe Meri feels she already did the sacrificing and this is her turn now.

I used to like this show but now I just find it annoying. Meri is a wretch. Why doesn't anyone tell her to take a seat already. Sure, I feel terrible that she wanted more children and couldn't have them but that doesn't mean she can play that card to get everything that the parent who actually does have those children gets. Clearly a Mother with 6 kids needs more than a Mother with one grown child. Not saying she should be relegated to a bedroom in someone's basement but she is a very selfish woman.

There is nothing Sister Wife imo about this family. They are all imo just baby mamas. The women barely tolerate each other. Kody looks like he has had enough of Meri's nonsense. He can barely contain his annoyance with her and rightly so. I used to like her but I now see what she is really like. She is not nice and very selfish. They all get the same budget? Really? Why not divide it per person and that is what each household gets? Why do the 3 wives with tons of kids have to have the same budget as the wife with one grown child? That is just stupid. What kind of Mother would take all that extra money when the others clearly need it? Selfish.

On another note- Christine looked great last night. I would have loved to see what they talked about when the cameras weren't rolling. Christine was breaking out in hives down her neck.
Janelle also looked really pretty. In fact they all looked nice but Meri is a mean girl. YMMV.

I agree. I thought the whole "benefit" of having sister wives was they helped each other with the kids and housework, but these women don't seem to lift a finger for each other -- why was no one helping Christine with the baby when she was studying for the real estate exam? Even when they still lived in the big house in Utah, Logan used to get up and feed his younger sibs so Janelle could get to work, whereas Meri was room over doing nothing but fixing a pop tart for her one teenaged daughter. Why does Robyn need her sister to watch her kids?

They are four single mothers sharing one idiot baby daddy.

I'm surprised that they would have put themselves forth as model polygamists given their history of bankruptcy and reliance on public assistance (food stamps). While I don't object to polygamy in and of itself, expecting the public to subsidize your illegal activity is pretty nervy.

Taxes will be a big hit out of that. But I just realized that since they moved to Nevada they don't have to pay state income tax. Wonder if that was part of their decision to go there!

I just keep thinking of Meri alone in that huge house next summer when Mariah goes off to college. Kodi will visit every 4th day, and otherwise she'll be puttering around a 5 bedroom and 1 craft room house alone! It's wild! What will she put in all those bedrooms? Only 2 need to be used as bedrooms.

Where will they get the money for all the extra furniture to fill all these extra rooms?

And yeah - I agree with others. Meri should have cut something out. I'd be ticked if I was Janelle, ditching my patio to stay on budget when Meri is over budget and doesn't care.

(good point chobie - where are the other moms when Christine is studying? And why is Robin's sister there? Another mouth to feed and Robin isn't working a "real" 9-5 job. She's working on their jewelry. Surely that can be done while the baby is napping?)

It's obvious that Meri is putting off the baby decision until after the house is planned. She hasn't said it outright on the show, but it's like she's implying, "Well, I might have another baby so I should have all this room." After they're all moved it, she'll have a tearful revelation that she doesn't want a baby but she'll be all set up in that big house by herself. I also can't believe she's being so selfish about the wet bar, which she can only have if she also gets the 5th bedroom and the craft room. She mentioned she just wanted it for the counter space. So, why not install a counter in the living room? Or get a free-standing bar? And Janelle can't even have a patio for her kids to play on? Geez!

You guys are right in saying this isn't really a Polygamous family in the sense that the viewers were told at the start of this show.

Four seperate homes with the women running their own household and dealing with their own kids. Kody has his harem of baby mamas with more to come no doubt. He has to stoke his ego with his virility.

Did anybody notice the couple of times he mentioned his wives "obeying"?

I doubt it will ever happen but it would be interesting if one or all broke away and opted for traditional relationships where your partner is always there for you and your children instead of seeing him on a schedule.

Okay, still like the show and still like them and thought the little sit down with the wives after the season finale was interesting. However, as the show has progressed, I find myself liking Christine and Janelle the best.

Honestly, I find it a bit disappointing that the bankruptcies and Janelle originally being married to Meri's brother are never mentioned. They must know that many fans use forums/internet to poke around and thus find out about these things. I would respect them much more if they would talk about these things on the show. I have watched every episode and never seen either thing mentioned.

They want us all to see a Polygamist family that isn't on public assistance but forget to admit they used to be.

Bottom line, in today's times, its pretty much impossible for one man to support several wives and that many children. Jiim Bob Duggar supports a huge family, but he has one wife, one house and no wet bar!

The other guy Joe seems to maybe do better. I do have to say one house, even a large one has got to be way cheaper than four.

And sorry, although the family is large, no one wife has more than six kids. I have known many people who have 4-6 kids and they all lived in standard houses. No five and six bedrooms, brand new, top of the line type homes.

There are other housing developments in Las Vegas where they could get four side by side lots. That are not the McMansion set up they just have to have. Sheesh, buy a few three bedroom houses with a finished basement.

All by themself, each family is not some giant family that needs a giant house. They act like a family of 8 is so large only a very huge house will do.

They pretend to sweat bullets about qualifying when we all know TLC is paying them a pretty penny for each episode. How dumb do they think we are?

Meri has really disappointed me. Although creative editing is probably a big culprit in this. The show won't create much of an audience if the four wives all get along and don't have some dramatic slant.

I wonder if they ever considered buying a townhouse unit. Each wife could have their own house while still being very close to the others.

They could have put connecting doors in like a hotel and Kody wouldn't have even needed to go outside to get to the next wife's house for the night. ;)

Seriously though, a nice townhouse building could have given them the space they needed at a much lower cost than 4 separate houses.

Excellent idea! Heck, I have even seen some townhouses that have wet bars lol.

I have never built a house but I thought it odd that they were already picking out carpet and tile when they haven't actually bought the houses. Is this normal or was the drama at the real estate office manufactured too?

Well from experience, when we bought a new house we did pick out the carpet, exterior paint and brick etc long before the houses were finished. Otherwise, they couldn't have finished them! The builder has to know what to put in the house as far as finishes as well as what brick, stone and paint colors to put on the outside. Its a bit of a leap of faith on the builders part to build a house to the specifications of the proposed buyer when in reality a lot of things can go wrong. Of course if something goes wrong, I believe the buyer can lose their earnest money/deposit which helps protect the builder.

A loan isn't completely approved and certain until the day you close. Something can go wrong, a lay off, pay cut or someone can do something stupid like buy a new car or furniture just before closing thinking it will be fine and slip under the wire.

So they are preapproved and it must look good but until they sign on the dotted line nothing is certain.
