Good morning!
Last day of 2012!
QOTD December 31, 2012
1. What is your exercise plan for this month? Do you have long term goals? I read something that said that women over 40 need 60 minutes of cardio a day. Which is overwhelming. And who knows if it is even true. But I do believe we need some form of exercise to lose weight and to stay healthy.
2. When we find ourselves in that position of needing to lose (in my case, again) it is easy to be negative and get down on ourselves. To play the shoulda, woulda, coulda game and to call ourselves all kinds of not nice things.
Starting today and for the entire month of January, I want you to say something positive about yourself. I would prefer that it not be--I am a good wife, mom, sister, cousin, aunt, etc. You can say it in a post, or just say it in your head or write it down in a journal, but I want you to make a conscious effort to say something good every day for a month. And if all you got for that day is I am a good Mom, then that's good enough.
I hope whatever you have planned for today, that you have a happy, healthy safe New Year!
I am off to the gym to get in my last run for the year on the treadmill. It is cold today!
Ok first things first.
Something positive. I am not a quitter! I may have set backs, bumps in the road, times when I want to throw in the towel or can't see the wagon, but I am like the little engine that could and just keep plugging forward!
My exercise goals for this month. Well, mostly just to survive the marathon.
Without killing my husband or losing all my friends in the process. I am a little stressed. I am going to set a modest goal of 1400 exercise minutes this month. I plan to run three days a week, do strength two days a week and at least one day a week of some other form of cardio.
I encourage everyone to join the exercise thread this month. I have found it to be an incredible motivator to get those minutes in!
Hello! I would like to join this weight loss challenge. I've never been a thin person, but over the past 5 years I've had 3 kids (had our last one 3 months ago) and have really gained a lot of unecessary weight to the point that I'm now obese. So now that I'm done having kids I'm finally ready to commit to myself and lose this weight once and for all. It also helps that we have a big family beach vacation in August, so it gives me a long term goal to look forward to (wear a bathing suit without being embarassed!)
I haven't read every post yet but did read the last 2 questions of the day and will answer them.
My eating plan is to follow weight watchers. I've used it in the past and lost weight and I think what I really need is to do something sensible that I can keep up (I've also done Atkins and lost weight but that's definitely not a long term solution for me!). I won't be attending meetings as I really just don't have the $$ for that right now (or the time honestly) but now that I have this group it will help me keep myself accountable.
As for exercise, luckily I have amazing sleepers and all of my girls are asleep by 7 every night. So as soon as they're asleep I plan on using my DVDs to work out at least 30 minutes a day in the basement. I just bought Zumba though haven't tried it yet. I also have a bunch of Biggest Loser and Jillian Micheals DVDs.
So that's it for me. I'm excited to get to know you all better and have a happy and safe New Year's Eve everyone!
ETA: I forgot to mention my goals. I have an overall goal of losing about 80 pounds (ouch that hurts to write!). For January I'm going to set it high at 8 pounds as I usually lose fairly quickly in the beginning and think I can lose at least that.
Sounds like you have a great plan and a beach vacation is a definite motivator. Don't stress about the 80, just take it one month at a time.
Good Morning Rose and Everyone!
Happy end of 2012!
My January goals are to keep perfecting my yoga, I plan on going for 75 minutes twice a week. If I'm not too sore, I will add in a day or two a week of Zumba.
My long term goals are to run in a Disney race! I Would love to do the Wine and Dine run in November! We'll see... I'm so proud of how far I've come in 2012 I'm excited to see what 2013 brings!
I'm going to end 2012 with the way I started my new healthy lifestyle- with a little Zumba
I say Wine and Dine in November! It's my favorite race and barring anything crazy happening Mike and I will be there.
2013 is going to be a great year!!
Happy New Year's Eve!!!
For starters I'm walking a 5k tomorrow morning. It's a "Committment Day" theme put on by my gym, Lifetime Fitness and it's happening in about 30 cities across the country. I've done about 4 5ks this year and am going to increase that number in 2013.
I have been lax lately in going to the gym so I'm going to get back into the groove by going to some classes - most likely yoga and strength training. Part of my issue with not going is I don't currently live near my gym, but that will change in the spring when we move closer.
What I had the most success in sticking with is doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD. It's a 20 minute workout you do every day for 30 days and there are three different levels so you can switch it up if you want. And really who doesn't have 20 minutes in their day to exercise?
ITA, who doesn't have 20 minutes? Have a great time at your 5k tomorrow!
My plan is to finish up the Couch to 5K Program and then start working on my time with that. I'm hoping to continue running 3 times per week and fill in the spaces at the gym either doing elliptical or walking and then also some strength training in the mix as well.
Great plan!
I'm in for is challenge and excited about it! Thanks for organizing it. My name is Melissa and am a mostly SAHM to 5 yr old and 2 yr old boys. I am an RN that works a couple nights a month. I have lost about 30 lbs so far since my DS #2 was born. I started running and ran my first 5K in Oct.
My long term goal is to lose 50 more lbs. My goal for Jan is 5 lbs.
How do I plan on doing it? For exercise i plan to Run 3-4x week on treadmill till its nice enough to run outside again. i havent run since i finished my 5K in Oct and miss it. I plan on doing couch to 5K app again. I highly recommend that program. i need to be ready for a 5K March 17. i also ordered Jillian Michaels beginner dvd and 30 day shred and bought some light weights. I plan to do those 3-4x week. I need stuff I can do at home with the boys so a gym isn't for me right now. As far as diet I am planning to Drink 8 glasses water a day, Track food in my fitness pal and Keep calories below goal.
Lots of time to get 5k ready! Sounds like you have a great plan too!
Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!!
I'm definitely in for this challenge, and ready to lose this weight again, and for good this time. I'm going to go high this month and aim for 8 pounds. I'm feeling ready to focus and keep my focus, by keeping my eye on the prize which is the 2014 princess half marathon. I have 50+ pounds to lose to get to where I'd like to be. I know what to do, and I'm going to do it. I'm going to join weight watchers again. I've been successful with that in the past, and am planning to track every bite and start running again.
It's great to meet everyone, and I wish you all the best this month!! We can do this!
Never Give Up!!!!
So very happy to see you Kathy!
Hi everyone!
My exercise plan for January is to exercise! Lol! Seriously though, I am going to treadmill 3 times a week. I was going to purchase Jillian's 90 day revolution however I'm committing to the treadmill before I spend money on another program. My long term goal is to run the first 5k that our local running club sponsors for the year which is called run from your taxes which is on the closest weekend to tax day.
That sounds like a fun race!
I'm in for the first time! I started running in mid September and have lost 24 lbs so far. My ultimate goal is to be out of the "overweight" category for my height, and into a medium/size 8 by June of this year. That means losing 34 more lbs. This month's goal is 6 lbs in order to reach my previous goal of 30lbs by the time I cruise on Feb 10. I'll be sending my PM in a few!
I meant to add that my plan is to continue to stick to my calorie goals every day, which I've been doing very well using My Fitness Pal. I also want to get down to a 9-10 minute mile and increase my distance from a 5k to a 10k so I'll be running at least 30 mins a day 4-5 days a week. I graduated from Couch to 5k this past Friday, and I'll be doing the 5k to 10k app now.
Congrats on finishing c25k. I was sooooo happy the day I left the overweight category!
1. I hope to restart C25K this month but I set my minutes goal to a modest 500 because I still can't take a deep breath without coughing.
Long term goal is the WISH Princess 1/2 in 2014. That is my primary long term fitness goal. I also don't have a set time for that, I just want to finish upright and not get swept.
ETA: I also plan to do 30 day shred and or yoga on my days off of C25K.
2. I am worth the effort.
You are absolutely worth the effort!
And you can absolutely finish the Princess!
Question about weigh in tomorrow.
Today I am 2 pounds less than what I've been averaging but I think it's mostly due to my Wonton soup and Hot tea diet for the last week. But now that I feel a little better, real food is coming back into play.
So, when I do tomorrow's weigh in, should I go with my current weight or should I go with what I've been maintaining for the past month?
I would say pick whatever weight you want to use as your starting weight.
Rose
Yes, I did read the you're going to be great. I've actually seen that before, it think it's made it's way around pinterest before.
That could so be written about me. For a while in the summer, I was using the track while DS16 did his early morning runs. I was that person off on the sidelines trying to stay out of the kids way. Of course I let my own inner demons get in the way and as the group got bigger as summer went on, the less I hit the track.
I cried when I read it yesterday. I still feel that sometimes....those inner demons are hard to get rid of sometimes.
Can I join? This looks like fun and I would love a way to stay accounetable.
Background on me: I've always been a "big" girl. When I delivered my DS I was my heaviest ever, and immediately lost 30lbs. Then, somehow, I gained it all back.
On November 26th (the day my doctor told me I needed to lose weight if i ever wanted another baby), I got serious. I was also diagnosed with celiac disease, and since going gluten-free, I feel like a completely different person and have so much more energy. I also hired a personal trainer. I started running last April, and did the Tower of Terror 10 Miler in September, and am signed up for the Princess Half in February, so I will still continue running. I have lost 22lbs since November 26
My eventual weightloss goal is 130lbs more, but I will take it slowly, one month at a time.
My exercise goal for 2013 is to work out 5 days a week. I have my trainer 2 days a week, and I need to keep up with my training for the half. I hope to run the
Disneyland half and the Wine and Dine half in the second half of 2013
Welcome! Another good plan! I ran the Princess the last two years, but I am skipping it this year. You will have lots of fun!

I went to the Y today and ran 10 miles on the treadmill at my race pace. It was wicked hot in the Y and even with drinking two bottles of water I sweated out two pounds. If only all weight loss could be that easy. haha. I am so very, very anxious about this race. You all are going to have to listen to me stress out for 13 more days. Sorry.
Anyhow, the Y was packed, but it was a good run. I had a cold over Christmas so this was the first hard workout since Christmas eve.
I am contemplating attempting to run 1 mile everyday in 2013. (In addition to my regular exercise). I don't usually run 2 days in a row but it's only 1 mile and I really like the idea of doing something every day for a year...anyhow still thinking about it.
