Castaway Cay in January

Visiting Castaway Cay in a few weeks and wondering if anyone has found the weather good recently at Castaway Cay (for swimming) or previously in January?

A little disappointed to see that people are saying 'no'... I'm from Canada, so our tolerance is a little better than most... But... thoughts?

I went in January 2011 and the weather was great. The water was warm enough for us to swim in and we are from St. Louis.

We were there last January and the weather was great. In the 80's and sunny. It was very windy but everyone was swimming. I am from MN so even if it was 70 we would have been happy! :)
You definitely can have great weather in Jan or people have reported sitting wrapped in a blanket on shore- it just depends. I always say I'd rather take a bad day at Castaway over a good 'winter' day here in MN ;)
Have a great cruise!

Here is a link to the 10 day weather forecast for Nassau. Most days look too cold for me.

Your being sarcastic right? When we will be there on Monday 1/7 it will be 81 that sounds amazing! It will be 27 degrees and snowing the same day here... All of those days sound wonderful and not cold at all to me! I see that your from Florida but the lowest low on there is only 64, that's warmer then some days that are forcasted in Orlando in the next 10 days, some days down into the 40s now I'll let you call that cold. I guess I take for granted how these Western New York winters thicken your skin. Stay warm! :beach:

As a native Floridian, anything below 70 is "cold" to us. The water was packed during my cruise last January, and I found it glacier cold. I could only deduce that those folks were from up north. I'm going again at the end of this January, and am preparing myself not to be swimming at the beach again.

We were in NF last weekend and when you are running from the car to the hotel 'cause it is so cold... anything about 60 is tropical. :D

It's not the air temp--it's the water temp! I assume that's what the pp meant. We personally (also native Floridians) don't swim in the winter, even on the "warmest" days. It's usually about Easter before the adults I know are willing to venture into the unheated pools (much less the ocean). Granted, my kids will swim in March, but their lips are blue by the time they cry uncle and get out ;). It really is a northern/southern thing-- freezing while swimming is just not something that we enjoy. It's just as easy to wait a few weeks for warmer water. Others up north may not see it that way, but that's our perspective.

ETA: For perspective, I couldn't stand the "heated" pool at a WDW resort early March this year. I got in and got right out. Heated? Not hardly!!! Of course, my kids swam until their teeth chattered so much they couldn't talk :)

We were on the 1/8/11 Magic cruise and it was in the high 50s air temp when we were at CC. First time DH would not let the kids get in the water after several stops there in December & January. I only saw 3 people in the water all day when we were there. No kids were on Pelican Plunge at all. We wore sweatshirts because of the wind and cool temp.

We were on the pc cruise then and couldn't dock on 1/7/11. I guess if we were gonna miss it, at least we didn't miss much.

We were just on a 4-day cruise in early December and the weather was warm but the water was cold! I'm also from Florida, so I'm probably a wimp. There were plenty of people - especially kids - swimming, but not as many as in spring through fall. We've been there in the summer when it has rained all day and we still had fun though so don't worry. The island is awesome no matter what!

Not really. That was one time I kind of wished that we hadn't docked. I sat on a lounger covered with the beach towels while the family biked playing Angry Birds on my iTouch enjoying the peace and quiet on the practically empty beach. It was still better than being at home working! :thumbsup2

We're from Canada too. Its too cold for me, but I am absolutely sure my kids and hubby will be one of the ones in the water having an awesome time. Im happy for them. Hubby was afraid it would be too cold :goodvibes

Went 2 times in January. Last year was a cold but we were still in the water most of the day. We also went in November and March and it was warmer then but still great in Jnauary. A few years ago in January, it was amazing we basically sat in the shallow water with our kids for 8 hours.

Of course we are from Canada too and I used to surf in Nova Scotia in November (With a wet suit).

We were on CC on Jan 31st last year. BEAUTIFUL air temp, but water was still chilly. Did it stop us from swimming and snorkeling? Absolutely not! It was just cold at first. But then again, I'm from New England....used to swimming in cool water for most of the summer!!
Have a great cruise!!!!

I was just there two days ago and the weather was perfect on Serenity Bay: sunny, high @ 82F, water was calm. The wind was more brisk on the family beach and the water was a tad choppy but it didn't slow anyone down from having fun! :thumbsup2
