Paying cash for a non resident AP

If you pay cash for a non resident AP would ID be needed? I could see the need for ID if using a CC.

Yes.

Your name, address, date of birth and telephone number are entered into ATS for all APs. The first three are taken from your ID. And ATS can even read Florida and some other state's IDs to automatically enter that information.

One thing is if you lose the AP all you need to do is show the ID to get a replacement.

ditto Cheshire - we paid cash when we upgraded to APs - that part basically comes last. First they take your ID and do the processing -only at the end do you pony up the money.

You need ID to verify identity so that if there is any question in the future who it belongs to.

1) Correct.
2) The fingerprinting, drug test and DNA are for other pruposes.

and if you want to buy one for someone who is a non-resident? I would want to just hand them the ticket on the day they arrived and then just have to have them show ID on the 1st usage. I know their name,I know their address, I know their phone number. I dont see the point of having to show anything for a cash deal. When you buy a 1 to 10 day ticket they dont ask for ID if using cash. They dont even put your name on those tickets. Besides,,,the only one that could use them would be the one with the biometic tied to it.

This will not work as the information must be in the ATS computer prior to the system allowing the cashier to print the ticket.

However, if you want to give someone an AP as a gift you can go to any window and ask specifically for a "certificate" for an AP. The price is the same and there is no need for demographics. However, the ticket will print with the abbreviation "CERT" on it and it is not valid through the turnstiles. A person has to take the certificate to any ticket window, they will enter the demographics, and print out a new AP that will expire one year from the date of conversion, not one year from the date of purchase.

1. I don't see why its needed.

2. I have never been asked for ID whenever I have used my CC at WDW or anywhere else in the US. In fact for less than $50 I don't think you need to sign.

Ditto...although the rules on signing seem to vary. The only time these days you may be asked for ID on a CC purchase that I know of (been a long time since I worked retail):

- The card does not have a signature (I always required the person to sign the card after presenting the ID)
- The CC company or clearinghouse notifies back that ID is required. I've seen this with store-specific cards.

As for the question on using Debit cards - yes. You can pretty much use a debit card anywhere you can use a credit card of the particular brand (i.e. Visa, etc.)

As for requiring personal info for an AP vs. a MYW ticket - well, first of all - Disney's tickets, Disney's rules. Second, MYW tickets tend to be sold more as a commodity item vs. an Annual Pass. The AP is more like a license for the particular user to enter the park for a certain amount of time. The "ticket" is merely a convenient form of ID in that case. And since the pass is good for a longer period of time, there is a higher likelyhood of it needing replacement, and having the info makes it easier to verify ownership for replacement. A MYW ticket is more likely to be used over a shorter time and discarded.

Disney has more interest in preventing usage fraud of an AP than an expiring MYW ticket.

Because Disney does not choose to require ID for those purchases or tickets. They do for the AP.

It has nothing to do with payment method, it has to do with type of admission.

ITA that you shouldn't need ID to buy any sort of ticket. But you do.

So, buy it and use ID or don't buy it. Those are the options.
