Wrong side of this ship...

This is probably the silliest post ever, and I do understand that if this is my biggest problem, nobody's going to feel sorry for me, but I'm saying it anyway.

In August, I sailed the Dream concierge. We were in room 12508. Loved the view from the balcony. We waived to the folks ashore when we sailed away, we were right in front of the fireworks (I've heard they don't like people on the balconies during fireworks- but that wasn't a problem in August) and we were on the CC side when we docked.

This coming August, I got the last cat V on the 12th deck...room 120something. I'm on the wrong side of the ship for all of that.

I guess nothing is perfect.

Well now you get to see what the others see. :rotfl2: Seriously I am sure it was a bummer to not have the same great view but I am sure it will all be a wonderful trip. I envy you.

Thanks. I can't wait. We're going for my birthday so it's a big splurge and I'm working a lot of overtime to make up the price difference. Oh, and this year it's on the Fantasy, not the Dream.

Be happy your on a cruise and enjoy it!
Waste no more energy on what side your on, just enjoy the atmosphere, and since your on the Fantasy, you may be on the island side or bay view side of your other ports than Nassau so celebrate that and go up on deck to watch the fireworks!!!

You will be in different ports, so may have the port view. Also, at CC there will be CMs on the dock waving at you with Mickey gloves -- just like at the terminal. We make sure that we pack our Mickey gloves so the kids can wave back to them. :)

We prefer the port side for more than a few reasons. Not the least of which, I do not like to see CC when I am at CC. From our cabin at CC, we overlook the wonderful expanse of the open sea. It is such a peaceful way to end a weeklong cruise.

OT - where do you get the Mickey Gloves????

I ordered them from Disneystore.com years ago. They also have them in the parks & I think onboard now. We took them for the sail away part for the kids to wear also.

Wait .. what is better port or starboard

At CC Starboard side, at Nassau it depends on what ship is next to you if you have one! Other port's also depend on what berth is assigned and the ships direction is subject the prevailing winds as well.

I wouldn't worry too much and enjoy the view you get!

We're somewhat partial to the port side, especially when we fly, but we're looking forward to experiencing the starboard stateroom that we were just assigned to on our upcoming cruise. No disappointment here, we just hope that the weather will be conducive to docking at CC.

Glad to hear 12508 has a great view...We're staying in that room in March! :) Tell me about the balcony...It's one of the larger ones, right?

To ease your fears, we stayed on the other side of the ship last year, and we still had a great time. ;)

If you don't like what you have, let inventory control know that you are interested in moving should something open up. And then, enjoy the fact that the sides are port and starboard, not right and wrong.

I feel your pain.

We were actually shocked how little time we spent on our balcony, even on 12.
Things to do and see. Gotta go ...

OP, despite what everyone else says, we prefer starboard side as well. I would be a tiny bit disappointed on port as well, but it certainly is not a deal-breaker.

When you make your original reservation, specify what cabin or cabins you are willing to accept. I do that all the time. You could have said, you want a category x, and you want it on the ___ side of the ship, or you could say you want any one of the following cabins, and then give a list of acceptable numbers. Then if none of those is available, you decide what you want to do.

Each side has its own charms. I guess if I had a choice, I would choose starboard - but only because I liked the view of CC and being able to partially watch the firewords from the pirate party. Our first cruise, we were on Wonder 8532 (best stateroom EVER!!) - love the midship on the classics. In 2011, we were in 12012 on the Dream. Only reason why... DS was 9 years old, and we wanted him to have a little more freedom to come and go as he pleased from the Lab - but we wanted a room number we were confident he could remember - thus "twelve oh twelve". It was a great cruise regardless, and glad we saw the "other" side at Castaway, even once. It was neat to get the wave of the Mickey hands as we cast off. At Nassau, we were parked next to a Carnival liner, and it was fun to people watch - I had a strong feeling that they were sooooo jealous - kind of sad watching the families with young children getting on that Carnival ship - it looked so pitiful next to the beautiful Dream. The kids were looking longingly at the Disney ship while their parents pulled them by the hands onto the Carnival ship. :( Next cruise in June, I did the opposite room, back on starboard side - 12512. You'lll have a fabulous experience no matter which side you're on. Have fun!!!
