Ugh. Hate them. I asked my husband to drop off some packages at UPS so they would arrive in time for the holiday. Instead of going to UPS he went to the post office next to his work. They talked him into upgrading the shipping to who knows what, so 2 packages cost 40 bucks to send. No tracking info or anything, and of course one of the packages never arrived. This is why the USPS is failing. They just do not deliver. All of my UPS packages got to their destination. I am so mad at my husband, but really, he did pay enough to ensure it gets there. Ugh. Even with the receipt they say there is nothing they can do. Nothing else went missing. Just a gift I carefully selected for my sister.

I'm on the opposite side of that!

I've had several UPS packages not arrive at their destinations because they were "left with a neighbor" or "returned to sender [Amazon] as undeliverable [even though I verified that the correct address was on the box]".

I've never had a USPS package go missing, including the dozens of packages I've mailed overseas over the years.

Sometimes it's just luck of the draw.

:earsboy:

I was a letter carrier for 18 years but I will only use UPS for packages now. Since my daughter has been away at college she would never get her stuff thru the postal service, even if i mailed it priority it would take over a week :confused3
Now I send it from the UPS store and she always gets it the next day, even though I dont pay extra for next day. Also the service is amazing and they have all my and her info on the computer. USPS cannot compete with that level of service IMO.

My friend's husband works for the post office and I got tired of hearing the comments if I sent her package using any other service. I just shipped her a box via USPS. if she doesn't receive it or if the contents aren't in one piece -- I don't want to hear it ever again.

Had a great experiance with USPS. I request online some boxes, they droped off the priority flat rate boxes to my door, I packed them up then paid for postage and arranged for them to pick up the packages at my home. They picked them up Monday 12/17, no problem, and all three boxes made it by 12/21. I never had to set foot in the post office.

Sorry for your luck, I think some post offices are better run than others. Mine is fantastic and the family I ship to most seem to have good experiances with theirs too.

I refuse to us the USPS to ship packages for just this reason. They do not guarantee date of delivery and it's hard to track a lost package. I have worked for UPS for over a year now and we have had very few packages get lost or destroyed. When they say it's going to be delivered on Tuesday by end of day, by golly, they're going to be delivered on time unless there is a weather catastrophe or terrorist attack.

I never use USPS to ship packages anymore. I have had way too many problems with them. I ship everything via UPS. USPS is not in the same league as UPS, IMO. DH and I were discussing this the other day. The only people we know who use USPS to mail packages anymore are our elderly relatives. ;)

I've always found UPS to me cheaper, more reliable, more professional, etc., than teh disaster that is the USPS.

I once had something shipped TO me with tracking by USPS. It didn't show. The tracking showed the pickup, one stop, then nothing. Weeks later, they claimed they had no idea where it was and no way to find out. Well, isn't it where the tracking says? Oh, no, that's just the last place it was scanned, I was told, that doesn't actually mean anything. Then why do ppl pay for tracking? So you can see where it is, I was told.

I won't even discuss the mail carrier.

Part of the problem with USPS is that I never see them refuse to send a poorly packaged item. Some of the stuff people use to ship in is just asking to get jammed up in the USPS's machinery. Of course then other items get damaged by the machinery as well.

I have a different USPS problem. So many times this has happened over the years including Ebay. I purchased something and it is a box or such and the postman has delivered it to the wrong address in my subdivision. It is so frustrating because 1st. the homeowner who received it, is not kind enough to either give it back to post office or just drop it off to the correct address. Maybe a few houses down. I than ask the postman that tracking shows delivered and the postman just says oh I will check tracking tomorrow and he never does of course because he delivered it to the wrong house and knows it and nothing can be done about it anymore.

Than I have to contact the Ebay seller who is not even at fault but neither am I and see maybe if it was insured by them and sometimes they just send another one and i make sure to give my work address if they are sending USPS.

I also have received packages for other homes and I just go drop it outside their door.

Is there anything that can be done about this? . I have tried complaining at the post office but they just hear you out and thats it. Nothing is done.

I love the UPS because they have delivered every package that I order.

I make sure all my packages are delivered by UPS. Usually Kohls has delivery where its shows fedex but it actually goes to usps and they deliver it so I make sure to send it to my work address since it is rural and no chance of postman delivering it to the wrong address.

I only ship via USPS and use their flat rate boxes and their regional boxes. Never had a package go missing.

My sister used to send our presents from her family via UPS. Three years in a row it was delivered to the wrong address in a different subdivision. The odd thing is it was delivered to the same wrong address each year. Our street starts with Counc and the wrong address starts with Court. She now sends our presents via USPS.

Also, the one time I tried to send something UPS it was $10 more than USPS. I could never figure that one out.

UPS loses packages every day! There is no better handling involved, no matter what you see here. I have had UPS boxes thrown at my door, skidded across my driveway, "on truck for delivery" for over a week. They all stink if you want a package delivered clean and unbroken.

I try to stay away from both and use only FED EX. Never had any problems with them.

All I know is that the one package I didn't get by Christmas this year was delivered UPS.

Every time I have had a package go missing it has been USPS. I placed an order with Old Navy and the USPS sent it back claiming insufficient address. Old Navy said they would reship when they got the package back. According to the tracking info it started in Ohio then went to Iowa to Colorado and finally NM where I live. When it was sent back it went to Colorado then Arizona, Utah, back to Arizona and then it got lost. The USPS can't get their act together to even send a package back properly.

I have also had a couple packages get to the local PO and that is where the tracking ends. Never made it to me. Both orders were for food items. I long suspected the carriers stole them. No one at the PO wanted to help me at all. Kept trying to place blame everywhere but on themselves.

Lets not forget the packages that they said were delivered but I never got. Again they tried to blame everyone but themselves. Said it wasn't their fault even though they were the ones handling the packages.

Their customer service is the pits.

I have a pair of earrings sitting in New York with that same issue...

OTOH, I ordered something once (I forget from where), the box came all broken, and not only featured what I ordered but a pot holder? Someone somewhere is upset that they never received their pot holder, I'm sure.

I am a college student and live 200 miles from campus so all my classes are online. I ordered my books and specifically had on the shipping label "deliver to door not to gate". Both packages on separate days were left at the gate anyway, even though the gate was left open for the purpose of him coming in. What is really bad is that he did a delivery to our next door neighbor and drop up her driveway, but then wouldn't come up ours. We all live on 2 1/2 acres with the homes towards the back, we have a circular driveway so that it isn't an issue. A semi could come in and go around the circle, his truck for sure can as well. I told him as much the first time he did this, (I was outside when I heard him next door, and then saw him pull away after putting our package at the gate. He went further down our road delivered to another neighbors door and I confronted him on the way back down our street). two days later and he left the package at the gate again. Oh, both times, he put that he gave to a woman at the door in the delivery information. Pretty crazy since I wasn't home the second time.
At least FedEx and USPS will deliver to my door.

My problem with FedEx not delivering small packages to my door, but leaving them with the local USPS to be delivered! If I pay for FedEx delivery, that's what I should get!
One of my Christmas gifts was, according to FedEx, dropped at our local post office on Dec. 24. Thus far, no package, and FedEx says they will take until next Tuesday (8 days!) to track it.
Of course, FedEx home delivery is not much better. They once left a padded envelope propped up against my garage door instead of by the breezeway door right next to it. Yep, I drove over it!

My son's UPS-sent big Christmas gift was due to arrive between December 18 and 21.

We got it December 26. :roll eyes:

On the other hand, I will send DD at college a care package from Houston to Los Angeles via USPS on Saturday and it will be in her dorm mailbox Tuesday - regular shipping.
