With 6 Todd will eat your egg roll! Nicki, Todd, Katmark & Family Xmas! UPDATED 1/2

What fun to see you enjoying the roasted chestnuts at the GF!! Roasted chestnuts are one of my favorite childhood memories...every year my mother would roast chestnuts right before Thanksgiving and add them to the stuffing. We had chestnut stuffing my whole life and to this day, still do.

When I moved to Mississippi, I couldn't find chestnuts anywhere. Just before Thanksgiving this year, I went into Kroger and there they were....just waiting!! And I burst into tears in the produce dept of Kroger. (talk about looking odd):scratchin But they're just a part of "home".

Merry Christmas everyone!!!! I hope it's filled with love and joy!!! :santa:

First of all, Merry Christmas!

Wow...your MK day sounds like it was EPIC! ::yes:: Kona breakfast is definitely a favorite of mine...in fact, Kona anything is near the top of my list. Haven't had a bad meal there, yet!

Love the pic of Todd double fisting egg rolls! :rotfl: Are they anything special? I have to say that I always enjoy Pecos Bill's, due primarily to that cheese sauce and the toppings bar. I had never been into cheese fries, and then I had some as a snack at Disney a few years back and my love affair with plastic cheese began. Its so gross, but I just love it sometimes. It makes no sense!

I love the CR pics, too. Do you think it will be possible for me to survive on cupcakes when we're there next week? I think that's the plan! The pumpkin one looks so, so, so good!

MERRY CHRISTMAS NIKKI AND TODD!!!

Great reviews as usual! I especially like the look of Contempo's pumpkin cupcake with maple frosting, and the chestnuts at GF. The Grand Floridian is so beautiful during the holiday season. :thumbsup2

Hope you all had a very happy Christmas, by the way. :goodvibes

Those cupcakes look soooo yummy.

Hope you & Todd had a great Christmas!

Great update my friend. Here, per your request, are our two men sleeping at the Contemporary:

Todd:

Mark:

We really did run those boys ragged, didn't we?

Mark really liked his chocolate chocolate chip muffin. I just wish the bar had been open so we could have had a Christmas cocktail.
I laughed when I saw this and had to tell my hubby "See you are not the only one who can sleep anywhere". He said "they had to charge THEIR batteries too!:rotfl2:

Good tip about chestnuts at the Grand Floridian. Eventually we will do Christmas at the World and we will check them out!

Yes, we are staying at Marriott's Crystal Shores on Marco Island. I'll check the places you listed and thank you. So, how about Naples? Are the restuarants there kid friendly? Mine are older but still like that darn mac and cheese stuff.

There are tons of chain restaurants in Naples but when we go out to eat we enjoy the Mercado, they have tons of places and Waterside Shops is great too. Try to make it to 3rd Street and 5th Avenue if you can

love seeing the gingerbread creations at the resorts! and all the desserts look so tempting!
happy the boys got their naps in :rotfl2:

I love WDW during the holidays, every place you go smells of gingerbread. Kathy has many pictures of Todd napping

Oh my goodness!! Look at all of those cupcakes! Now I'm going to have to take a walk over to the cupcake store and it's all your fault!:rotfl: Ok, actually I was going to go over there today anyway. ;)

I have to admit that I've never eaten a chestnut. Do you just peel and eat?

So many cupcakes and so little room in the tummy! Chestnuts are scored and roasted and then you peel the tough skin off and inside is a tender creamy nut. We love them and I put a ton of them in my Thanksgiving stuffing

It's always such fun to read your reviews and live vicariously through you until we can get there!! :thumbsup2

Seeing the GF just made my day.... 5 more little months until we're there! I guess the smell of gingerbread will be gone by then though....:sad1: But, the cupcakes will be there !! And let's be honest, what's better than the cupcakes!

Thank you for sharing your reviews and fun with us!! I'm glad ya'll had fun! :cheer2:

Thank you for reading along! I bet there will be loads of cupcakes when you get there, sample as many as you can!

Yes we sure did! These are great pictures. Next time we have to make sure we get more cocktails and less cupcakes

That pumpkin cupcake looks divine!! I wish I would have seen it, I know I would have loved it.

I think all men can sleep anywhere! My friend Steve fell asleep in my room in the 2 minutes it took me to change my shoes and use the bathroom before we went to DTD. :lmao:

It was an amazing cupcake, the frosting was outrageous! Todd can fall asleep anywhere at any time! He has many napping places all through WDW

Thanks for all the photos of the Contemporary. I know where I'm staying if I ever make it out there for Christmas! :goodvibes

Its really nice but if I could ever swing the price I would go for the main building at the GF, its just screams Xmas!

I have to say I enjoyed the "monorail resort tour"...but I was very disappointed in the Contemporary and the Polynesian as far as their decorations. I expected so much more from them. :confused3

The Grand Floridian on the other hand? :thumbsup2 Although it is a resort I would never stay at, the decorations were above and beyond...truly outstanding. And the coffee was very yummy when we stopped to have one.

The best resorts at the GF, AKL and WL for decorations...although the Epcot resorts were beautiful. Next year lets try to get to the resorts we missed

Pumpkin cupcake with caramel inside? Heaven....

Did you happen to notice any gluten free cupcake options in your travels? Thanks!

Yes it was pure heaven and I felt so devilish devouring it! I know the coffee bar at Kona had a few gluten free options but I dont think they were cupcakes.

awe, the boys look so cute sleeping :rotfl2:

They do look sweet but looks are deceiving!

The Roasted Chestnuts is bringing back such wonderful childhood memories. Every Christmas day after Christmas Tea , my dad would prepare the chestnuts and would roast them over an open fire !! They were sooooo good !!

They are just the best around the holidays, its hard to find fresh ones in FL so I usually go to William Sonoma and but the already roasted and peeled ones...very expensive though

Nicki! Kat! I didn't realize you guys were there the same time as me! We arrived on the 14th and left yesterday! Looks like we had some near run-ins as I stayed at AKL and spent a lot of time at MK and Epcot lol.

We were there earlier...bummer, would have loved to see you again! Going earlier in Oct next year, might see you then?

I never knew that about the chestnuts at GF. I have actually never had roasted chestnuts. That would have been neat to try.

I found out about them about 8 years ago...thanks to the Dis!

wishing you both a very Merry Christmas!!

Same to you and Happy New Year!

It wasnt a holiday meal without roasted chestnuts and we would make a game out of shelling them into one whole nut and not a bunch or broken pieces. Hope your holiday was amazing!

First of all, Merry Christmas!

Merry Xmas to you too Tina! Our MK was awesome and to start it with Kona was perfect, we all needed the coffee! How you feel about the cheese sauce is how he feels about it too...he never eats cheese fries anywhere but WDW. I sure hope they have that cupcake for you, its worth the trip to the resort for it!

MERRY CHRISTMAS NIKKI AND TODD!!!

Wishing the two of you a wonderful and festive time! Keep on eating! ;)

Merry Xmas my wonderful friends!

I sure hope you can visit WDW during the holidays, as the foodie you are you would be in hog heaven!

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you!

The cupcakes were so worth the carbs! Hope you and your family had a great holiday as well. It was a tie as to whose batteries were dying first, the boys bodies or the girls cell phones LOL!

Sorry for the delay but you all know how the holidays can take over! When I last left you the Fantastic Foursome was chillaxing at the resorts and when we all had more pep in our step it was time to go back to MK. First stop was the Main Street Candy Shop..I was jonesing for a gingerbread man and it was excellent!

We didnt want to fill up on the sweets because we had a very special meal ahead of us tonight, Be Our Guest! If you guys followed Kathy's Sept TR you might remember the disaster it was to get this reservation. I was on the phone for 2 hours that morning and I booked it with a credit card. A few hours later Kathy called to inform me that WDW may be cancelling all those reservations so the two of us stayed on hold for another hour to make sure that didnt happen. Was it worth it? You shall soon see....

The lines in front of BOG were very long and you could hear guests arguing with the CM's. Turns out that alot of reservations were lost and they didnt have any names associated with them. If you didnt have your reservation number you were out of luck and they put you on standby, you might have to wait for hours. Lucky us, we had our number and we were seated in 15 minutes. They had the main ballroom and the library open but the third room was closed. For pictures of the interior you will have to wait for Kathy's TR

We sat in the library, it was dark and cozy and really nice. Since its small it was not too loud like the main ballroom. Every 20 minutes the Beast would visit the dining rooms and wave hello. At the end of your meal you are able to take photos with him using your own camera or PP

Out of the 6 of us only one had alcohol, Andy sucked it up for the team and had a beer! We started off with a huge basket of hot crusty rolls and butter...excellent!

037.jpg

I had the champagne salad and loved it, I really enjoy salads like this, lots of flavor in the dressing too...very good and would have liked more of it

041.jpg

Todd had the potato leek soup and he liked it alot, it was hot and creamy and very tasty

038.jpg

Kathy had the french onion soup and it looked excellent! Kathy, did you like it better than the one at Chefs de France?

039.jpg

Mark and Andy shared the meats and pate plate, the serving was pretty good and they had no problem finish it, they both liked it alot

040.jpg

Des had the shrimp and scallops with lobster sauce in a puff pastry..she was sitting at the opposite end of the table so I dont know her thoughts on it

042.jpg

I had the same dish but with shrimp and no scallops. I LOVED this and it was the highlight meal for me. The flavor of the sauce was incredible, the shrimp was tender and there was tons of it, loved all the veggies but the puff pastry with the sauce was just out of bounds!

047.jpg

Kathy and Todd had the same thing, the NY Strip with veggies and fries. Kathy was a doll and gave me her veggies which were nice and tender and well seasoned. The steaks were cooked perfectly, I had a bite of Todd's and it was good but not like the one from the Yachtsman lol! The fries with that herbed garlic may were delish!

045.jpg

046.jpg

Andy had the the pork, wow this was a huge piece of meat! He let us all have a bite, it was very tender and lots of flavor. Todd said he would order that the next time

043.jpg

And the birthday boy had the cornish hen. I sat across from Romeo and the smell of that delicious chicken was intoxicating! The only thing left on his plate was some little bones!

044.jpg

Throughout the entire meal we were all saying how much we were enjoying our meal, our surroundings, everything was excellent and BOG is a must do for all of us on all our trips!

Up next, dessert!

Dessert was a must, we had noted that Mark was celebrating his birthday so they brought him the Grey Stuff. He shared with all of us, tasted like the frosting in an Oreo with a lot of ground up Oreos mixed in

048.jpg

The older couples, ahem, not mentioning names here, had coffee and it was very good, not the typical park coffee but really good restaurant coffee

049.jpg

051.jpg

Kathy had the chocolate cupcake, it was rich and very chocolatey

050.jpg

I cannot remember who had the chocolate cream puff, either Todd or Andy

052.jpg

This was the highlight meal for just about all of us...next time I want to try it for lunch too!

OOOOOHHHH!! BOG looks so good!! We got ADR's there for our June trip and I cannot wait to try it... I thought I had myself settled on the shrimp /scallops, but the cornish hen and the pork look amazing too! OY!! The gray stuff really does look amazing! it's so cute that they did this! I'm hoping that they'll bring my DH some since it's going to be his birthday when we're there....

Did you get a picture w/ the Beast ?

your BOG photos are great! can't wait to try it next year! we want to do lunch and dinner! so want those cupcakes! and yay for REAL coffee!

Wow! BOG looks fantastic! That puff pastry appetizer looks amazing. Cannot wait to try this one in August!

Love the dinner pics at BOG! I ate lunch there during my trip, so it was nice to see the dinner offerings too. It all looks delicious ::yes::

Merry Christmas to you!!! Love the Yachtsman pix as always, and it was a reminder that we need to get back there soon!! I've been wondering about BOG Dinner. I canceled 2 of our reservations there because our lunch was just meh. Maybe once the newness dies down we'll give it another shot.

Have a Happy New Year!!!

Yes we sure did! These are great pictures. Next time we have to make sure we get more cocktails and less cupcakes

Definitely like this idea!

The best resorts at the GF, AKL and WL for decorations...although the Epcot resorts were beautiful. Next year lets try to get to the resorts we missed

Sounds like a plan to me. :)

They do look sweet but looks are deceiving!

Ain't that the truth! :lmao:

I think it was actually called the "West Wing" or forbidden room.

Out of the 6 of us only one had alcohol, Andy sucked it up for the team and had a beer! We started off with a huge basket of hot crusty rolls and butter...excellent!

I still can't wrap around the idea of drinking alcohol in the Magic Kingdom. :confused3

037.jpg

That bread was amazing!

I had the champagne salad and loved it, I really enjoy salads like this, lots of flavor in the dressing too...very good and would have liked more of it

Kathy had the french onion soup and it looked excellent! Kathy, did you like it better than the one at Chefs de France?

039.jpg

I actually liked it at BOG a tad bit more.

Des had the shrimp and scallops with lobster sauce in a puff pastry..she was sitting at the opposite end of the table so I dont know her thoughts on it

I think she was so mesmerized by the theme of the restaurant that she may have not even noticed how her meal tasted. ;)

042.jpg

I want to try this next time; maybe on my girls trip in June--Mary secured an ADR today for our trip. :thumbsup2

This was very good, but the steak was better at Yachtsman.

Andy had the the pork, wow this was a huge piece of meat! He let us all have a bite, it was very tender and lots of flavor. Todd said he would order that the next time

043.jpg

This is also on my must try list.

And the birthday boy had the cornish hen. I sat across from Romeo and the smell of that delicious chicken was intoxicating! The only thing left on his plate was some little bones!

044.jpg

He loved it...he was silent during his entire meal.

Throughout the entire meal we were all saying how much we were enjoying our meal, our surroundings, everything was excellent and BOG is a must do for all of us on all our trips!

Up next, dessert!

Definitely can't wait to go back.

Dessert was a must, we had noted that Mark was celebrating his birthday so they brought him the Grey Stuff. He shared with all of us, tasted like the frosting in an Oreo with a lot of ground up Oreos mixed in

048.jpg

I wasn't all impressed by it.

The older couples, ahem, not mentioning names here, had coffee and it was very good, not the typical park coffee but really good restaurant coffee

049.jpg

051.jpg

It wasn't Kona coffee, but it was god (and yes, I'm one of the older couples!

Kathy had the chocolate cupcake, it was rich and very chocolatey

050.jpg

This was yummy....but way too rich.

I cannot remember who had the chocolate cream puff, either Todd or Andy

052.jpg

I think Andy and Todd both got it if I'm not mistaken.

This was the highlight meal for just about all of us...next time I want to try it for lunch too!

Definitely my favorite meal of the trip.

Did you get a picture w/ the Beast ?

Yes, we got with our camera as well as on our photopass card. They'll be in my TR when I get to that day.

I am glad to see that you approved BOG! A friend of ours has made the reservation for all of us for February!
Your food looks amazing, even the grey stuff!

Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes
