I am so excited I just bought a new camera today and upgraded from my T1i! There was a good price at a local store with the EF-S 18-200 lens. I just bought the lens a few months back so I sold it and bought the kit which came with the lens! I have been bugging DH to let me upgrade for a year lol especially because I just started doing photography part time :)

Now to learn how to use all the settings!

Nice!

I have the 40d but one thing I wish it had is the capability to do video!

Enjoy.

Awesome! My husband gave me my Christmas present early and it was the 60D too! It came with a 18-135 lense but it ALSO came with a 75-300! Perfect for getting shots of my boys on the field when football season rolls around again!

I love taking landscape photos, so I am excited to put my new baby to work!!

Canon has been discounting the 60D, probably means a 70D will be announced soon

That's awesome congrats to you too!! I have the 75-300 it is a great zoom you will love it! My T1i came with the 18-135 so I got the bundle that came with the 18-200 (best all around lens I have ever owned!)

I was trying to hold out for the 70D but I really wanted a new camera now lol and I wouldn't prob be able to budget in the 70D for over a year or so. After selling my 18-200 lens to buy the bundle with it I only ended up paying $600 for the camera :)

Welcome to the club. Let's see your first shot!

I will post it as soon as I get the chance!!

Ok, I'm glad you posted this. How did you decide to go with this camera, as opposed to, say, the Canon T4i? I'm in the market for a new one, and I'm looking at the 60D, the T4i, and the T3i. Totally stuck as to which one to get. I did the side-by-side comparison on DPreview, and looks like the only big difference is the 60D is sealed better against the elements.

I have an Olympus E-510 now. I would be considered a hobbiest, have been paid a couple of times to do senior portraits, but I'm not a professional per se.

Thanks! And enjoy that new camera!

There are some notable differences. The T4i will auto focus while taking video with the STM lenses. The others will not. The T4i also has a newer sensor design that is supposed to have less noise and a generation newer image processor. THe T4i also has a broader ISO range, with one more stop. The T4i has the stainless steel in the body, the 60D is all plastic. The burst rate is really close between the two, with the 60D only 0.3 FPS faster than the T4i. The only other real gains the 60D has is that it's slightly larger, has more view finder coverage and is as you said weather sealed.

Did not know that the T4i is metal. Interesting. Thank you for all that information! That is pushing me more toward the T4i. I won't use the video at all, but the lower noise is interesting...

Actually they both use metal: the T4i is a stainless steel chassis with plastic overmold (glass reinforced) while the 60D is an aluminum chassis with plastic overmold (glass reinforced also). The 60D weighs almost 200 grams more, partly the larger battery, partly ?. The 60D buffer may be larger which is nice to have during bursts or bracketing.

I prefer the wheel on the 60D, although I switched from xxD to Rebels (to save size and weight) I always missed the wheel.

Everything I've read said they dropped the magnesium alloy with the 60D and went all plastic with it. I didn't realize it still had an aluminum chassis.

Not my first picture but it is one of the better ones :goodvibes

Awesome shot!

I prefer the 60D to the rebels cause it's a higher tier camera and more of a pro camera. I had a rebel before and they are more of the entry level DSLRs. They are all great cameras, I was just looking for something like that without going up to the Mark at this time. I really liked all the features of the 60D. I even compared it to the 7D and a lot of photographers preferred the 60D. I also like the flip out screen. I like the screen on top for settings as well.

Can someone tell me, is the sensor on the 60D the same as my T2i? I've been considering an upgrade, but don't think a move to the 60D would gain me much.

My understanding is that the sensor is nearly identical on the two. The T4i however has the newer sensor as well as a newer image processor.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's what I thought.

I would wait Janet. I've seen the 60d price fall every month which leads me to believe that a 70d or something similar is on its way. What are you looking for in a new camera?
