pull out couch size

We just booked a stateroom with a verandah on the Fantasy...room # 8564. It is a category 5B. Our DD will be sleeping on the pull out couch. My question is: it looks like the couch/bed will be in the way to get out to the verandah. I'd like to go sit on the verandah early in the morning and DD is not a 'morning person', so will I have to climb over her to get out?

Do you mean the "murphy bed" (5th bed) that pulls out from the wall? Or the actual couch bed? The couch bed doesn't pull out, it is a twin size with the bunk above it. It will not block the verandah access. I have heard people indicate that the murphy bed does block access to the verandah and you need to climb over the bed to get out onto the verandah. Some people prefer to book 2 staterooms rather than use all the beds and end up with a blocked verandah.

you can tell that I'm a newbie to this cruising thing:blush: Yes, I meant the couch/bed. I thought it was a pull out type of couch. So this is perfect. My other DD and her partner have their own cabin, so this set up should work perfectly.
thanks for your help

The pullout couch is more like a "futon" type thing. So it doesn't fold all the way out like a traditional fold out. It only extends a few inches past where it normally sits. It's more of a "fold down" than a "fold out". (If that makes sense) ;)

Does anyone have any pics? I was wondering the same thing. I booked a verandah so we could sit outside after she went to bed. But will we be distracting to her? We don't rock her to sleep. Just read her stories and lights out. She usually talks to her princess puppy for a few minutes and then falls asleep on her own.

Is it a comfortable 'futon'? We bought a futon for the spare room, but we spent a little more and it is more like a "mattress" than just padding....very comfortable!

Well, I have a picture of the sofa bed down in an oceanview room. But I can't access it till Saturday. If noone posts one before then, I'll post mine.

It is not like a futon. It is a standard twin mattress built into the back of the couch. The back pulls forward, making the couch into a bed.

I feel it's more a full size than a twin. And yes. When it is open it does block the door to your veranda and you have to climb over the bed. Kinda annoying.

The sofa that converts to a bed is nothing like a pull out couch that your mother might have had in her living room. It does a funky flip thing. The back of the couch is a twin sized mattress, part of which you see as the back of the couch, the rest extends behind the sitting cushions down to the floor. There are not poles or rods in the mattress part. The stateroom host flips it so the "back" becomes the mattress and the cushions are somewhere underneath. It is nothing like a futon either--it is a real twin mattress.

The ceiling bed drops out as a second full sized twin mattress in rooms that sleep 4.

There is a pic in this thread of the open bed.I know 5B isn't concierge, but the layout is the same.

So the couch in these rooms is indeed a pull out couch. Not the type with the fold-down back.

I believe this picture is of a Concierge category room which has a "double convertible sofa". The couches in non-concierge rooms are not like this. The non-concierge rooms have a "single convertible sofa" andjust flip over and become a twin bed with an actual twin mattress like someone previously said. The stateroom the OP has is not concierge so will have a single convertible sofa that does not block the verandah.

Here is a picture from our cruise. We had the family room, so you can see the murphy bed in the back as well.

Mia culpa. I thought all the sofas were the same. :guilty:

Here is a photo of my DD (8 at the time) in the sofa bed. This is a 4E room on the Dream -- one of the rooms on deck 5 that has the same interior space as a category 5 and an extended verandah. As you can see, it does not block access to the verandah at all. My DD found it very comfortable!
