Just my opinion, but I despise Penner, both for this season and from his previous one. He is an arrogant SOB and a sore loser. Did he inform the others about his acting roles? That was news to me, never heard of him and never care to hear about him again. I also despise Russell, the jerk from Texas. He is also a sore loser. While I love Malcolm, I probably won't watch the next season, because I hate reality shows that bring back previous players.

you will probably never watch survivor again because jeff probst said they like returning players and will continue to bring them back

Last night was a mixed bag for me. Liked seeing Denise win, unhappy it wasn't a final TWO :(. Penner really showed out; what a whiner.

I don't think Penner has ever hidden what he does on the show - but you don't get rich from a few episodes of The Nanny and that Tea Leoni sitcom that disappeared and la shorts, even if well-received.

You *do* generally get rich from being one of the stars of a sitcom on network television for about a decade and in reruns pretty perpetually for the 25 years following its run. She was hiding it for a reason.

That said, as I said before and someone else concurred, I think he was just trying to up the drama as the jury was a snoozefest. He's a writer - he was messing around making a story, why do you think they left him for last to begin with?

Love Penner, though I do think this time he got more annoyed than I've seen him. I think because he thought, for whatever reason (starvation-induced insanity?) that Welchel and/or Skupin were sane, rational, had the brains god gave a chipmunk, whatever.

Penner misplayed it, absolutely, and admits it, and admitted it at Loser Lodge, according to Probst, who said he saw where he went wrong when they were talking about it there at the time.

Did anyone else notice something "off" with Lisa, as in there almost appears to be something wrong with her, as in like lack of social skills or something. Kind of like someone that has lived in some isolated community their whole life and has never been around people? Is it just me? Its hard to put my finger on, but there is just something "odd" about her, and I'm not referring to her religious views, its something else. Almost like someone that's been in a cult or something. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Lisa says that she didn't make as money a ppl think because she was on a show in the 80's and the pay was a lot less than it is now. she also says that she lost a lot of her money in bad real estate during the recession.

Her losing a lot of money isn't anyone's problem but hers.

Sure, everyones' salaries were lower 30 years ago - however, that show has been in reruns pretty perpetually since then. I don't buy her claiming any kind of poverty.

She hid it as anyone would because in the past perceived "rich" contestants have been voted off because they were seen as not "needing" the money. That is not what the show is about. Other contestants have learned that and have hidden their occupations, etc too. There was a dentist a couple of years ago voted off solely because he was seen as not "needing" the money. I think it's despicable to vote someone off just for that reason. I don't blame her. I really like her and was glad she won fan favorite.

I know why she hid it; same reason Kent did, and Hogeboom and etc., as you note.

I don't think it's 'despicable' or anything else to vote off or not vote for in the finals a contestant who has money. Survivor isn't a meritocracy, it's a game show. You win because people don't vote you off and then they vote for you - because they think you're the lesser of two evils, because they think you were funny around camp, because you smiled more, because you were the FUTR in a cover pair *or* because you were the cover, because you gave them the answer they liked at the final jury, because the don't want to give the money to someone who has money or because they want to give the money to someone with a good sob story, true or not.

There is no 'this is what it's about' besides: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast.

To me, I think it is a combination of a lot of things.

Lisa admits that she has spent most of her life trying to "please" people, probably everyone from her parents to the people she worked with on "Facts" to her husband. Lisa doesn't probably, herself, truly know or understand the true Lisa.

Then, when she left the show, she tried really hard to leave the Hollywood life behind. For someone that was as much a "child star" as she had been at that time, that probably meant going into an isolation of sorts. In order to escape the lights and the lifestyle, she had to completely leave everything had had previously defined her behind, and try to remake herself at only 21.

Finally she goes through a nasty divorce. Now, again, everything she thought she had figured out about the "true Lisa" is shaken again. She had invested so much of herself into WIFE and MOM and now that is gone as well (she is still MOM but the perfect home life she had built for herself is gone now).

So now, she is still trying to figure out who she is, and to a great extent, she leans on her faith to help her do this. And in seeking to further her journey of self-exploration, she decides to go on Survivor (still scratching  my head over this one). Now she has to face all her inner demons, her desire to please everyone around her, her inability to compete in the game, etc. Probably extremely troubling for her. I think she did start to pull it together at the end (just in time to blindside Malcolm ), but not till after her brother arrived.

Also interesting to reflect that when it was time for "family" to visit, it wasn't one of her three children (ages 20-21-22) but her younger brother whom she most wished to see. I adore my brother, but if I were stuck on an island for 39 days and got to pick one person to see, it would definitely be one of my kids.

Hmmm yeah that is odd, I didn't realize that, unless her kids couldn't come. But yes that would be weird if she requested a brother and not one of her kids, unless maybe she could only have one visitor and she didn't want to single one kid out.

And on the other note, I was shocked that only 2 people knew who she was. I never watched a single episode of her show, not once, but knew right away exactly who she was. Thought that was odd, although maybe not, I would have never known who Jeff the baseball player was, and I actually watch a little baseball, not a huge fan at all though.

You give them a little list and the show picks or whomever can coordinate with the schedule given to them by the show comes. They don't pick just one because that just one may not be able to be there.

As to the 'one of her kids' then it'd be like Skupin, and you come off like a total tool, going on about how that's your favourite person in the whole world, while the other kids turn and throw things at you while watching it.

Though I think Welchel's mailman could've shown up and she'd have had the same blubbering reaction - woman ain't right.

I don't think she's claiming poverty but tv stars from the 80's are not getting millions of dollars in residuals. just because the show has been in reruns doesn't mean she was getting a lot of money because after a certain period of time those residuals stop.

No, I had the exact same reaction - I wasn't a fan of the show, maybe only watched one or two episodes ever (and my favorite was Nancy McKeon's character - the troublemaker LOL :lmao:) but I remembered right away who she was. Of course, I am the "right" age group to remember her.

I do also watch baseball, however, love a good game, probably one of my favorite sports to watch - and I was like "Jeff WHO??"

No, those residuals do not stop; she's not Patty Duke, it was the '80s. The show has been in reruns for decades. It often runs in multiple-episode blocks. She gets paid for every ep. It's not a huge amount for every episode, but it certainly adds up.

What does it matter? The show is over (Survivor, not FoL).

Well, the "spoiler" posted about Malcolm being back in the cast of "Redemption" was wrong since the next season ISN'T Redemption...it's another fans v. favorites! .

Doesn't matter what next season is called. Knowing that Malcolm is returning NEXT season before this season was completely televised was a virtual guarantee that he didn't win THIS season. They're not going to invite a winner back so soon.

I read spoilers earlier in the season and knew Malcolm didn't make the Final 3, so the news didn't bother me in that respect. Still, I believe the OP shouldn't have posted in THIS thread labeled "No Spoilers."

When they go to the purple rock, everyone has to pick a rock, not just the tied players, iirc.

Yes, but they wouldn't have done the purple rock if there was a tie at the Final 4. The one time they tried it back in Season 3 or 4 it didn't work the way it was supposed to. AFAIK, the purple rock is now only to be used for unresolved ties before the Final 4. Ties at F4 are fire building challenges.

I've never seen the purple rock tie breaker ever again after that one time. It's an major incentive to NOT cause a tie. OTOH, there have been at least two fire building challenges at F4.

I think they put in those people to throw everyone off. Just read on EW about next season, the returning players have all played only 1 time.

Yes, during the previews for the last time there was an All Stars or Fans vs Favorites they showed many past players, only some of whom actually appeared the following season.

Anyone think Lisa would have won if Penner hadn't outed her? It sure seemed like tribal councill was heading that way until Penner spoke up. Also, not sure why Jeff didn't ask Penner why he did it.

No, I don't think Penner's outing changed anyones minds. I think Denise had it wrapped up before the jury even began their interrogations.

I did watch maybe a dozen episodes of The Facts of Life back in the 80s, but if the producers hadn't said who Lisa was, I'd never had known it was "Blair." I never really knew the actress's name.

Same with Jeff Kent. Though I remember him playing, I wouldn't recognize his face outside of baseball.

Oh I agree, but I'm saying that THAT particular spoiler was wrong as far as the "Redemption" angle. The spoilers are very often wrong...I;m not convinced Malcolm is returning. We'll see.

It doesn't matter if she had millions, which she doesn't from everything I've ever read about her. I did read where she said if she won she was going to give money to her brother for his church that he is starting. I just hate the "life's not fair" crap and the attitude that just because someone has made money in their life that they shouldn't be competing. It also tends to be the younger players who say things like that. A lot of people who play the game, while they want to win the money have repeatedly said that they want to win the game more. It has to be more than just about the money because it's not a month at the Ritz, it's a painful, exhausting (physically and mentally) time. You have to be very competitive and game for just about anything.
