Quick Question About the Contemporary

I thought this was a better place to ask this than the W.I.S.H. board since it's a resort question....I'm running in the 2013 Walt Disney World Full Marathon in January. This will be my first full marathon. I have an unusual breakfast that I've been eating during training because it works for my sensitive stomach and seems to give me a decent amount of boost prior to running long runs.

The problem is I need a microwave for this breakfast. I've stayed at the Contemporary before and I don't remember there being a microwave in my room and I'll be eating around 3am (or so). Is there anything open in the hotel at that time that I could get my pre-race breakfast heated up or are there microwaves in the room and I'm just not remembering them?

You only have a microwave in your room if you are staying in a villa. The regular rooms don't have them. The Contempo Cafe is probably closed I'm sure, we are staying there for the marathon as well but in a villa. You want to come use our microwave? LOL ;)

Give the Contemporary a call and see if you can get a microwave. I didn't know this was an option in some of the deluxe hotels, but we did request one and get one for a stay at YC this past September. It may be that the Contemporary does the same thing.

That being said, you can also talk to the front desk upon arrival and tell them the reason you need a microwave - I'd put money on the fact that they'd bend over backwards to get you a microwave for something like this.

And if not - if it's that important - you could order a $30 microwave from Wal Mart and have it delivered. You could just consider it a cost of the trip. I almost did this on our trip too!

There is a microwave at Contempo Cafe- right near the seating area. That area may or may not be closed off during a 3am.

I may have to take you up on that! :rotfl: It's funny because I carb load prior to longer runs and I had been eating 2 pieces of toast prior to runs, but one particular morning, I went to eat that and we had no bread in the pantry. I couldn't find anything quick that I didn't think would disagree with me and there are no public restrooms open where I do my long runs until long after I'm usually finished running. The only thing I could find quick to eat that I felt I could handle was a small thing of easy mac. I tried it and had a great run and no stomach issues.

I was recently a convert from Run/Walk to straight running and that particular day was my longest run without any walk breaks by over 3 miles! I'm not generally superstitious, but since I had a great run, I decided I'd try the same breakfast the next week and again, had a great run. I've had that same breakfast every single morning before my long runs since and the only time I missed it, I had a bad one. I'm sure it was just mental, but still. Why chance it?

Worse comes to worse...could you eat the EasyMac cold? You could cook it at the Cafe while it is open and then store it in your fridge until 3 am

Good call ZehnJahren!! :thumbsup2 We got a microwave at the GF once, all I had to do was call housekeeping and they sent one right up! So definitely check into that! :goodvibes

Hi!

Contempo Cafe SHOULD be open marathon morning for the early risers! Last year I stayed at AKL for Marathon Weekend and Mira was open.

Good luck!!!! The atmosphere marathon weekend is great!
