Opinions of a "restricted" View balcony on Fantasy

I was looking through the cruise threads today, and found out our balcony will have this "restricted" balcony view:

I am really bummed because we'll be sitting on our couch looking at this thing, but I like the overall location of the room. (7554) I am not sure I even can switch becasue we are on the Spring Break cruise which is full, but with final payments coming up, there may be some rooms opening up.

So would YOU switch or have you switched rooms because of this thing or have you had a cabin with this view and felt it wasn't so bad after all?

If we can't switch rooms, I may ask for some compensation - has anyone had any luck with this?

Please help!

I don't think Disney considers that to be a restricted view. The ones that are labeled "restricted view" are a lot worse than that. I stayed in a room like what you pictured last time, and I found that it didn't detract from the verandah at all. It covers maybe 5% at one side, and you still have a clear view for 95% of it, including being able to see through the railing. I wouldn't worry about it.

I found out my room, 7566, also will have this view. I talked to someone who had this and they said until they came on the Disboards and someone pointed it out here - they didn't find it a distraction at all or even notice it!

I was in stateroom 9554 (which would be directly 2 decks above your room) and honestly thought people overreacted about this making the view "restricted". We didn't think it was a big deal at all, that picture makes it look much worse than it is.

What did you book? Did you select this room or book a GTY or *GT? That would affect whether you can ask for another room.

That said, we stayed in a "partially obstructed view" balcony on the Magic. If I didn't know it had that classification and looked for it, I really wouldn't have noticed. We thought it was a great bargain.

I haven't been on that ship, but I don't think it will be as bad as you think. I think it will be like a picture frame around the outer edge of your view. That picture is looking into the corner of your verandah so it makes it look *way* worse than it would be looking straight on.

Thanks for your quick replies - I am feeling a bit better - although I hope to hear from even more people. We booked this room specifically (not GTY), on opening day, because of it's location on the ship. The room is classified as a standard balcony, not "Obstructed view" so I was so disappointed to see this "obstruction".

Any more opinions?

One advantage of these rooms is it allows more of a view down to sea between the lifeboats. Yours is forward so it will offer more protection from wind, and possible smoke. Some feel it offers a bit more privacy. JMTs

This room is close to the middle of the forward group of 5c rooms (Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Veranda) on deck 7.

I think this could only be considered an obstructed view if you were standing directly behind it and trying to look out over the balcony. It looks about a foot wide. It's definitely less wide than the chair in the photo.

A cat 7a.....a cat 5c is next door ....and a cost of $155.00 more.

That must be dependent on the sailing. When 7As pop up on my cruise (Easter 7 Day Western) right now they are going for about $1,000 less than 5cs for 2A.

This room looks like it is categorized as a 5c to me (unless what I'm looking at is very old). It should be a 7A IMO, though.

This obstruction seem comparable to 7022 and 7520 which are 7as, but maybe it is a matter of perspective.

IIRC someone measured the panel and reported here it is a 14 inch intrusion into A cabin's view.

What ship is this?


Someone I know was in a 5C on the Wonder and the verandah looked like this. I thought it was great because it provided protection from the wind on sea days.

The Category 7A has a Navigator's veranda - http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-staterooms.htm#dreamstaterooms - but our room is a 5C - standard balcony (just with this "restricted" view, as some are calling it, but no price difference than any other 5C).

I think I am booked in one if these 'obstructed' view rooms. We have a connecting room with my parents. I am hoping to open the divider between the two verandas to have one big veranda. I think this beam is located right between our two rooms (7590 and 7588 ). It sure would be nice not to have this 2 foot beam located right in the middle. I'm seriously considering trying to change rooms now.

We had almost the exact same situation (although in a 4B) and I honestly didn't notice the barrier until I was chatting with our neighbors. They had adjoining rooms without the barrier and I could see the difference. But let me also add that I had sailed twice in the very recent past in non-"obstructed" verandahs. And as I said, the obstruction didn't catch my eye until I saw my neighbors' verandah. So it was no big deal for us. In any case, we were pixie-dusted so I wouldn't have complained anyway. I say it's not worth the bother. Have a great cruise!
