What could a great smile, pleasant attitude and a love of Disney get you at check in?

Is it worth it to ask for a perferred room at that time even if you didn't pay for it. Are there any perks one could ask for or hint at, or is it not worth it?

I wouldn't ask for it unless you're prepared to pay for it -- as for what a great smile, pleasant attitude and love of Disney would get you...probably a smile and pleasant attitude in return. :)

Which in todays environment is probably worth more than a room upgrade.

Op, I'm with Erinsmommy, I would not ask unless you are prepared to pay for the upgrade.

I think of perks as a reward for using some thing, not for simply checking in. For example get a disney visa and hte card has some perks attached to it.
Just my take.

So neither a CM at the airport or at your front desk can offer you something for free, such as a preferred room, fast pass option, upgrade or park tickets, NOTHING? I just figured it was good customer service....

A great smile, pleasant attitude and a love of Disney will get you a friendly check-in and a great feeling to start off your trip.

I would assume at check-in that most people have "a great smile, pleasant attitude and a love of Disney". It is only natural to feel and be in that frame of mind as we are starting our vacations. It is your choice whether you think that your attitude is unique enough to warrant the CM to offer you an upgrade. Do what makes you feel comfortable.:thumbsup2

It makes me sad that people seem to need an incentive to be nice to CMs. Maybe that's why I ran into more grumpy ones than usual on my DL trip :(

Nope, no matter how nice you are, you won't get upgraded or free park tickets from the folks at the airport or the front desk. It just doesn't happen.

Fast passes are free to all park guests.

As for room upgrades, that occasionally does happen, but for the resort's operational reasons, not because the guest asked for it. In fact, according to front desk CMs who post here, asking for a free room upgrade is the best way to ensure you won't get one. It's not exactly unusual for guests to 'hint' that they want an upgrade, and I'm sure it gets wearing after awhile. If you ask to change to a preferred room, they'll assume you're going to pay for it.

Unlike places like Las Vegas, Disney is pretty much a 'get what you paid for' vacation destination. Oh, your kids may get a sticker or something, or you might get a signed photo of a character on your birthday, but they don't give away anything of real value, like park tickets, just because a guest is nice and smiles a lot.

I travel a great deal for work and many times I have received great upgrades, even suites, by just asking. So I figured that may be a possibility here as well but I guess not.

I do not care or need a preferred room to enjoy my stay, but I didn't know if was even worth asking for if those so called perferred rooms are still available sitting there empty.

I have stayed on site three times with standard view rooms and been upgraded twice. I did nothing special. Altho I think Tinkerbell dusted my path on the way in. I loved the way the CM started out by saying...I hope you don't mind but we upgraded your room.

What could a CM at the airport possibly offer you? Are you referring to DME? I don't think they have a preferred seating section on the buses, which is the only thing they are concerned with.

As for the CMs at the Resort Check In, IMO they always try to provide the best possible customer service. 99.9% of the time they will be unfailingly courteous and try their very best to provide for your needs in a timely manner. THAT is good customer service.

A preferred room is a paid room upgrade. If you want an upgrade, then be prepared to pay for it. When a free upgrade happens it is usually because of operational requirements at the resort that day, not because they liked the look of your pearly whites. (Just like the airlines- when was the last time you got a free upgrade to first class just by asking?). I have never ever heard of a resort giving away park tickets. And fast passes are free to everyone.

If the success of your vacation depends on the ability to score freebies, then perhaps Vegas would be a more desirable destination for you.

Park tickets are expensive. I can't imagine why giving customers free or upgraded park tickets simply for checking in is your measure of good customer service? They wouldn't be in business long if they did that.

When did good customer service become something more than giving people exactly what they paid for in a pleasant and efficient manner as well as resolving issues in as friendly and quick way possible should an problem actually arise? That's always been my measure of good customer service.

Not sure what it'll get you at check-in, but it'll sure as heck get you flamed here.

I can only speak for myself, but no flames here. Just confusion over such high expectations.
