Ship boarding Attire

I've seen a lot of posts saying you should bring your swim clothes on board with you to change into for the pool. Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to just wear my suit and coverup just for boarding the ship???

If you plan to have the embarkation photo taken, this might not be the attire you want in that photo. Many people wear a swimsuit under their clothing though. If you don't care about the embarkation photo, it doesn't matter at all.

Note--the embarkation photo is optional. The security photo (head only) is not optional and will be taken at check in if you do not already have one on file.

Thank you! I think I'll just plan on wearing a nice cover up, I don't really care about the photo. I really don't think I'll be purchasing them

No "dress code " reason. You will check in at the port and then board the ship. You may not want to wear it for comfort reasons. How long are you traveling before boarding the ship? People with young kids trying to use the rest rooms might have problems. It it's summer time it's hot with clothes and a swimsuit. If you are staying in Port Canaveral and then boarding the ship it might be easier.

We did this on our last Dream cruise. The first time we had our suits in our bag. There are only a couple of bathrooms, close to the pool, so it made changing difficult. I feel like Disney really missed the boat by not putting in dressing rooms by the pool.

We will be staying in Port Canaveral the night before. I thought it'd probably be easier than to try finding somewhere to change. We are going in January, so it shouldn't be too hot, but might be a little on the cool side.

Your idea about potential temperature could go either way. However, you might want to bring a change of clothes with you as luggage doesn't always arrive quickly at your cabin due to numbers of people checking into them.

At the very least...make sure you have a light jacket with a hood...as once the ship sales out of the port and goes to open water...the wind definitely picks up quickly and if it's cool...you will need something if you are a deck person like I am!

Besides the traveling thing - which doesn't apply to your situation - I would be concerned that my luggage might not be ready by dinner time. If you wear your swimsuit and cover up while boarding, I would pack a change of clothes for dinner in a carry on. Otherwise, I think it sounds like a great idea.

Our first was in January 2009. We woke up and it was in the 30s!! It hit 60 by the time we boarded the ship but it was never really warm and the only person in the pool was DD.

For our sailings on the Fantasy/Dream, we always wear swim attire when boarding. We're not big on the embarkation photo so this works for us. Once we board, straight up to top deck for the pool. This is also an ideal time for the Aqua Duck as the lines are some of the shortest!

If you want to play up the photo, you could bring your snorkel mask and fins, and slip them on while waiting in line for the photo.

When can you access your room after boarding? I thought you could access that before the luggae arrived??

Our DDs have always (8 cruises to date) just worn shorts & a t-shirts over their swim suits. They usually pack a carry on with a change of clothes for the 1st night dinner, in case the luggage is late.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about not getting luggage in time for dinner! I did plan to pack some extra clothes in my carryon though

Do people really walk around the ship wearing their swimsuits all day? I've never cruised before but I've seen pictures of the pools and they all look so tiny. Are they really such a big draw for people that they spend all day in their suits? Not judging or anything, just a little surprised.

Actually, doing something silly like that might actually get me to buy the boarding photo! We always seem to look like a disheveled mess in those photos.

Same with us! That is our favorite time. Plenty of rides on the Aqua Duck indeed.

And yes, people do hang poolside all day. The atmosphere and such are fantastic! One of our favorite parts of the cruise is the pool-time right when you board! Not to mention the embarkation party once you set sail. It is an absolutely incredible time. Cannot wait to get back!
