Hey!!! Don't eat that, I haven't taken a picture yet!! *Completed*

I bought one of the strawberry shortcakes over the summer as we were leaving to drive back to Indiana. I should have learned my lesson earlier in the trip and bought 2 of everything I wanted to eat. Have sons 11 & 14 and they were pretty consistant with wanting to "try" everything I had!! Being in the car on the interstate, I could not buy another one!

Rose and Crown was a suprising favorite for us. Our kids loved it, which was a huge suprise. Although, EPCOT was also their favorite park as well.

Well know you know what to do next time LOL

Welcome to day 10. Thank you again for all the kind words and encouragement for this Disney dining report, I am enjoying doing it.

Today was originally supposed to be an AK day, but we woke up foot sore and tired of crowds so decided to take a chill day.

In the early afternoon we decided to head over to Downtown Disney for lunch. We hadn't been to the Earl Of Sandwich yet so we decided that they deserved to have some of our money, but really not much as Earl's is still one of the better deals around.
Luanne decided to start with a bowl of:

IMGP3631 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Wisconsin Cheddar soup with garlic croutons, but the crouton looked more like a piece of bread to me. She said the crouton was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for dipping. She said both the soup and the crouton were delicious but the soup could have been a little warmer. Coming from her that means something because she USUALLY complains when things are to hot!
For our sandwiches we chose:

IMGP3633 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
The Full Montagu - roast beef and turkey with sharp cheddar ceese and aged Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, roma tomato and Earl's mustard sauce, but I got it with horseradish sauce instead of the mustard.
and:

IMGP3634 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
The Earl's Club - roast turkey, smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce and roma tomato and sandwich sauce.
Both sandwiches were great. I haven't yet had a bad sandwich here and I have tried several. The only one that I was less than thrilled with was last year when I tried the holiday sandwich and the only problem with that one was the cranberry sauce, to me it seemed more like grape jelly and I would have prefered the sandwich without it.
I got a bag of chips:

IMGP3632 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
These are the kettle chip variety so they are thicker and crunchier than a standard chip. They were good.
We were also looking forward to trying the brownie sandwiches. We had actually stopped in Earls on our first night in town to get one but they didn't have any. Well guess what, they didn't have any today either, the woman said they hadn't made any. OK my confusion at this is that 1) there were plenty of brownies there and 2) I counted at least 3 big signs advertising them as well as little cards on most of the tables promoting them Sooooooooo if you are spending money to advertise something you want to sell, and you have the ingredients to make them but your not making them then aren't you just wasting advertising dollars to promote something you can't sell because your not producing them??!! Oh well, I have never claimed to understand corporate philosophy. I once asked my boss why we are willing to pay a $600+ tow bill for a broken down bus when we could have just kept 2 or 3 of the $30 needed part in stock. He gave me a lecture on corporate financing, inventory cost and control, and taxes that had me lost after he said "well Eric, its like this...."
Anyway, back to the food, after Earls we headed on over to Goofy's Candy Co. I had been reading about those little brownie ( I can hear you "OH here he goes with the brownies again) mickey heads, so I wanted to try one:

IMGP3646 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
I got the mint flavored. They had 2 other flavors which escape me right now. All in all, I wasn't thrilled, the brownie was somewhat dry and the mint flavor was more of a strong aniseptic mint than a pleasant mint. But yes, they are cute.
We also got:

IMGP3644 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Create your own rice crispy Mickey heads. Luanne's is on the left and she got it dipped in milk chocolate, coated with reeses pieces and drizzled wit dark chocolate. Mine on the right is dipped in milk chocolate and I choose 2 coating, one side has mini M&Ms and the other has oreo cookie crumps and its drizzled with milk chocolate (they used to do a caramel drizzle but they don't do that anymore, mores the pity. The seconds topping was supposed to cost me another buck but the CM didn't charge me (SCORE). These are in the fridge right now but I am sure they will be terrific, how could they not?

For dinner we went to Trails Inn. I'm sorry but I don't have any pictures. It was raining and I didn't want to get my big camera wet so I figured I would take some pics of the buffet with my phone. Well I did but something about the lighting in the restaurant just didn't thrill my phone camera so the pictures were lousy. Trails Inn is in my opinion the best value of all Disney TS restaurants, its at least 1/3 less money than any other buffet. Sure it doesn't have as many options what it does have is very good. The salad bar has tossed and ceasar salads and all the toppings as well as potato and macaroni salad, peel and eat shrimp and some other stuff. They don't have a kids section per say, but there is stuff that kids will eat like pizza, fried chicken, mac and cheese etc. There are ribs, baked chicken, a fish dish (tonight was cod), mashed potatos and gravy, chili, soups, smoked brisket, tonights carving station meat was strip loin and a variety of other things. Luanne and I both thought the selection tonight was larger than other times we have been. For desserts they always have soft serve ice cream with a variety of toppins and they always have apple crisp (terrific) as well several kinds of cookies. Tonight they also had pecan pie and red velvet cake.
We don't go to Trails Inn on every trip, but thats mainly due to the fact that its not the easiest place to get to since even if you have a car you will still have to take a bus or boat to get to the Settlement where the restaurant is located. But it is really worth the trip if you can justify the time it takes in your already busy vacation schedule.

Tomorrow we will be going to MVMCP and have no idea where we are eating. though if I were a gambling man I would lay some money down on Cosmic Rays since we haven't been there yet this trip.
Also, if you know any of those people that complain about the CS places and how all they serve is hamburgers and chicken fingers you can point them to this report as I have just posted day 10 and have yet to eat a burger, hotdog or nugget.......that may change tomorrow, but still, 10 days, so the options are out there.

Thanks for reading.
Till next time.......

I am trying to do Weight Watchers, but you are killing me with your two desserts at Sunshine Seasons. My fault for reading, I know, but I love your reviews.

Sorry LOL but glad you like the reviews. I know how hard the temptations people flaunt in front of you can be. I started the adkins diet over the summer and was doing pretty good, 30lbs in 2 months, but it seemed like everywhere I looked someone would be eating some sweet treat or something that wasn't on the list of foods I could eat. I will be starting back on the adkins after the first of the year but I had to get off of it because I had a cruise, this WDW vacation and a wedding to go to all in the space of 3 months and I realised that I couldn't afford to buy an entire new wardrobe and still afford the trips LOL. Anyway, hang in there!

Good afternoon and welcome to Day 9. We are back in Epcot today. We originally had an ADR for Biergartin for lunch however we both decided that we just weren't hungry enough for a buffet, besides, we decided to spent most of the day in Future World so it was decided that we would just snack our way through the day with a couple of CS meals tossed in.
Luanne wanted to do some shopping and I wanted to get FPs for Soarin so we went our seperate ways. We both got something to eat but unfortunatly I didin't get pics of our first 2 items.
Luanne got a pretzel with a container of plastic cheese, it was a good as always, I have never had a bad Disney pretzel. While I was in the land getting our FPs, I stopped by Sunshine Seasons and got an Apple Caramel Crunch. I have had these before and really liked them. The cake part is like a coffee cake type texture but this time the cake part was soggy and doughy, though the flavor was still good.
A little later on I got some of these:

IMGP3358 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr

IMGP3359 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Cinnimon glazed almonds. I love these and get them every trip. They sell them all over but I only ever get them from one certain location. For many of the locations they just bring them in already made and toss them in the hot box. The location I get them at actually makes them there on site. The booth is between Innoventions West and The Land.
After some more wandering around we went back to The LAnd to use our Soarin FPs and then went to Sunshine Seasons for lunch.
Luanne had:

IMGP3477 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Mongolian Beef - with vegetable fried rice

IMGP3478 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
A side of Garlic Udon Noodles
and for dessert:

IMGP3479 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Chocolate cake
First off she loved the Chocolate cake, she said it was moist and very chocolatey.
Now for her entree and side......... First off let me just say that I have read reviews from people saying they just love the asian food at Sunshine Season and I have to wonder if there is a second asian food counter located here somwhere that I haven't found, because every single thing I have got from this counter has been NASTY!! and Luannes lunch backed up my experience.
She said the Mongolian Beefs was nearly to salty to eat..... and she LIKES salty things. She didn't comment on the fried rice. As for the udon noodles her comment went like this, "I don't make a habit of eating wax, but if I did I imagine that it would be like eating these noodle".
Well, at least she enjoyed her cake.
As for me, I had:

IMGP3474 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Slow-roasted Pork Chop - with cheddar mashed potatoes, there is also a BBQ sauce that I opted out of.

IMGP3475 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Strawberry Shortcake

IMGP3476 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Fudge brownie.
Yep thats right, I had 2 desserts, I am a grown man and I can have 2 desserts anytime I want. so neener neener.
The pork chop and potatos were very good, the chop had that nice roasted flavor and was very tender. The potatos had no gravy and I couldn't find any butter but they still had lots of flavor.
The strawberry shortcake is a everytime must-do for me, I get this every trip and this time it was even better as the chunks of strawberrys inside the cake were huge.
The brownie was very fudgy and soft, in fact it was almost like a pre-cooked batter kind of soft, but I like my brownies soft and chewy so this was perfect for me.

All this pretty much filled us up until dinner. We finished up FutureWorld and made our way through Mexico and Norway were we had planned to eat at Kringla Bakeri og Cafe, which we did, in fact, do.
We both ordered the:

IMGP3526 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Norwegian Club Sandwich - turkey, ham, and bacon with Jarlsberg and Muenster cheese with fresh tomatoes, sliced red onion, and lingonberrry mayonnaise.
We had the CM toast them for us so they were hot and the cheese gooey. The bread is some sort of whole grain so the toasting made the grains chrunchy. This is a very nice sandwich, very tasty and filling.
For dessert we both had:

IMGP3531 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Cloudberry Horn although the sign in the counter now says "troll horn" for some reason. These have a berry infused heavy whipped cream filling and the horn is a very flaky pastry with large sugar granuals sprinked on top. These are another must to for me and I will brave long lines in the bakery to get one (but there was no line last night SCORE!).
Luanne also got some of this packed to go:

IMGP3528 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Lefse - traditional potato bread with butter and cinnamon sugar
Luanne has some Scadihovian ancestry and she remembers having this as a kid. Kringla serves it cold, although they might heat it if you ask and Luanne says its much better warm. I tried a piece of it cold and wasn't impressed but she was looking forward to it. The description says "potato bread" but think totilla made with potato instead of wheat flour or corn and thats basically what it is. Its sitting in the fridge right now so if I get a taste after its warm I will update my current opinion.
That wraps up day 9.

Til next time........

Mmm Lefse, my grandparents were from Norway and my grandma made these from scratch for us. You're right they are basically a Scandinavian potato tortilla. My parents order them from Minnesota to be delivered to them in PA. They shared them with my DD who is now also a huge Lefse fan so we must stop to get some every time that we are at the world showcase.

I will let Luanne know she can order them, thanks.

Welcome to day 11 of my live food review. Today we are back at MK and will be attending the MVMCP.
First off today was hot and muggy. I think today was the hottest and had the highest humidity of any day I had ever spent at WDW and there was a mid-afternoon rain shower that just made things worse, so we just slowed our pace and took more breaks.

In my last post I mentioned that I would bet that we ate at Cosmic Rays today, well I would have lost LOL. But I did predict a burger would be eaten and that came to pass.

I didn't get pictures of the 2 snacks Luanne had today, she had a churro that she described as a deep fried sugery, cinnimony stick of goodness. She also had some ice cream from the Plaze Ice Cream Parlor which she also enjoyed greatly.

For lunch we found ourselves in Frontierland so we decided to visit Peco's Bill's where be both ordered the:

IMGP3685 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Deluxe 1/3-Pound Angus Cheeseburger - topped with bacon, onion rings, and barbeque sauce served with french fries.
The burger had 2 large onion rings topping it that were very good and the burger itself was tasty and very filling. Again the fries were just the regular Disney fries.
I also ordered:

IMGP3684 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Chili Cheese fries, which I topped with more plastic cheese. The chili had a good flavor but I thought the fries were to limp, you pretty much had to use a fork because if you tried to just pick up a fry it would droop and all the topping would just slide off. But the whole thing tasted good.

Later in the afternoon I got myself one of these little beauties:

IMGP3785 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
The world famous Mickey Ice Cream bar. I love these, you can keep your Dove bars, and your Haagen-Dazs bars, and your Good Humor bars, For my money the Mickey bar has them all beat with rich creamy ice cream and a nice tasty think coating of chocolate, plus it shaped like a Mickey head and everyone knows that anything taste better when it shaped like that.

For Dinner we were debating where to eat, and as the time for the Holiday Wishes fireworks show was approaching we decided to just stop at Casey's Corner where we both ordered:

IMGP3798 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Chili Cheese Dog with fries.
We both enjoyed this. The buns are much better than the whole grain buns they had been using and the hot dog was nice and plump with lots of good hot doggy flavor. They also didn't skimp on the chili which tasty but not to spicy. Tip, just go ahead ans get a knife and fork, you won't be able to eat this with your hands, I saw several people try and they all gave up LOL.
I also ordered:

IMGP3799 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Corn Dog Nuggets.
I happen to love corn dogs and these didn't disapoint. Very flavorful and you get quite a few.

As you may know that when attending MVMCP, there are set up at various places through out the park that are handing out free hot chocolate, apple juice and cookies. I won't be able to report on the hot chocolate because with the heat and humidity that last thing I wanted to do was be slurping down hot chocolate. I can say that the apple juice was your standard apple juice. The cookies on the other hand were of a higher quality than we have had in years past which had been plain sugar cookies. This year you had your choice of chocolate chip and snickerdoodles. Luanne said the chocolate chip were very good, but I wouldn't know, because they had snickerdoodles!

IMGP3824 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr

If I had to pick one cookie to eat for the rest of my life I would pick snickerdoodles, yes I realise that its just a suger cookie with sugar and cinnimon sprinkled on top, but I don't care, I love them and the ones I had at the party were plumb and chewy the way a good snickerdoodle should be, perfect. In case I was to subtle, I LOVE snickerdoodles! (For any of my co-workers that happen to read this report, the way to a supervisors heart is through his stomach, just a tip.)

Anyway, that concludes Day 11.
Tune in for Day 12.
Til then........

I'm enjoying your review and photos! Great job!

Ps. I eat really healthy most of the time but I love plastic cheese on fries. Thanks for making me drool! I haven't had them in years but I am so getting some at Disney!

Welcome to day 12 of our exploration into the sin of gluttony.
We left today up in the air with the exception of the Osborne lights tonight, so we decided to try someplace new for lunch. So we headed over to the Art of Animation to sample the delights of Landscapes of Flavor. This is a very colorful resort, even more so than our beloved Pop Century. We perused the various options on offer and we both eventually settled on:

IMGP3890 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Surf and Surf Burger - Crab Cake topped with fried Popcorn shrimp, tomato, lettuce, and cajun reoulade on a brioche bun served with coleslaw or house-seasoned fries , we both choose the seasoned fries. This was a nice sandwich, full of flavor. The Crab Cake was firm yet tender and they put 7 or8 shimp on top. We both like this, it was slightly messy to eat though, but thats what they make napkins for. The fried were the typical Disney fries with a very mild seasoning, almost to mild if I am to be honest. But overall we would both eat this again. I also got:

IMGP3892 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr

IMGP3893 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
The mini cupcakes. I gave Luanne the carrot cake one she she could have her veggie for lunch LOL.
The other 3 were surprisenly good. Lots of flavor in both the cake and the frosting and they were very fresh.
Luanne also picked this up for later:

IMGP3896 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
The Mickey ganache. This hasn't been eaten yet so I have nothing to say about it. We also saw these:

IMGP3895 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Souvenir cups filled with gelato. We both go one, I had vanilla and nutella gelatos, Luanne had nutella. The gelato was thick, rich and creamy, we both enjoyed it. The little black beads you see in the pic are chocolate pearls, one of the toppings you can select. I have to admit, while I was eating this I kept having flashbacks to the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where they were served monkey brains still in the head. OK Sorry, my mind goes weird places every once in a while LOL.
After the Osborne lights at DHS we decided to go "home" for dinner, so we headed on over to Pop Century. This is the only Disney resort we have ever stayed at and we love it over there. Luanne was dissapointed since she had her heart set on the Asian Chicken Salad, but they no longer serve that so she got:

IMGP3954 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Chicken Alfredo. She liked this. It came with a large chicken breast, coated in a Parmesan-crust that was crispy. The chicken was moist and the whole thing had lost of flavor, it also had plenty of sauce which isn't always the case with Disney pastas. I got to try a piece and agree, it was very good.
She also got a side salad:

IMGP3955 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
She said all the veggies were fresh.

I selected the Mom's night out dinner:

IMGP3952 by VikingInMouseEars, on Flickr
Meatloaf, with mashed potatos and gravy, green beans and cornbread
As you can see, I didn't get the beans and took an extra scoop of potatos instead, the reason being that while I like grean beans, they have to be fresh or canned. I detest frozen green beans and the ones they were serving looked like they had been frozen (green beans that have been frozen tend to be a much brighter green). The meatloaf itself was very good, lots of flavor and one thing I really liked was that it wasn't coated in tomato sauce glaze. The potatos were good and didn't have to many skins. I know there are those of you out there that like potato skins in their mashed potatos, but really as far I am concerned, skins in mashed potatos indicates a lazy cook. (stepping off my soapbox now). The corn bread was the sweet kind and was moist.

Well I think that about wraps up today. Day 13 will take us back to Epcot where we have a Candlelight Processional Dinner Pkg at Chefs de France. I know what I am having, but I will let you in on it when I post day 13.

Til next time, thanks for reading!
