Our Princess for a day makeover in DLH

As so many people ask about this, and I've only gleaned info from the lovely people on here who share, I thought I'd do the same.

We decided this trip to let our DDs have this makeover as I've always felt they were a little young before tbh. DD1 is 7.5 and DD2 is 4.5 and it was really the little one who was desperate for it to be done having seen a WDW advertisement on TV where a girl is having it done.

There was some confusion about whether it was on or not in November and it appears that during November (definitely the latter half), it was just the basic package of hair & makeup (45 euros) being offered.

I went to book ours (in secret :goodvibes) at the DLH shop on the morning of Friday 30th November, to have the next day, Sat 1st December and tbh it was all a bit confusing! I was told I could only book the basic package (as above) as they weren't sure if the professional photographer was going to be present or not :confused3. I enquired about packages with dresses and was told again, because of the photo issue, they weren't selling those packages... I would have to buy the dresses separately, dress the girls beforehand and arrive with them dressed.

So, I paid 45 euros each for the basic package and then later that night (11.30 pm!), we snuck over to the WoD and I bought the girls dresses and accessories each. The dresses were 59.99 euros each and the accessories varied - DD2 had a lovely Rapunzel sort of headress that I haven't seen before - think it was 12.99 euros. I got DD1 a tiana set of gloves and bag - think was 15.99 - I asked in about a headpiece and was told they didn't do one, so I was quite disappointed :confused3. However, the next day, I was passing the DLH shop and noticed a beautiful Tiana tiara in the window :cool1:. So, I promptly went and bought it - can't recall the price but it was gorgeous. Have to say, having to buy all the package pieces separately ended up being a lot more expensive than the packages which was frustrating! :furious:

The next morning, we arrived as per our appointment time, all dressed and ready. The lady clearly didn't speak much English but was really nice with the girls. To my surprise the photographer was there :confused3. But I was a bit annoyed that I had, had to buy all the bits separately because they said they didn't think it would be 'on'. In addition, I was told that if the photographer was there (when I booked) that I would get one free photo of each girl. When I went to view the photos they said it was not in the package cost - more money. I tried to explain that I would have booked the photo package had I been able to but it was pointless - they weren't bothered. I did feel this was poor CS on their half, but it doesn't surprise me considering some of the CS I've received at DLRP. I couldn't be bothered to argue or get the manager so I just bought the photos anyway :rotfl2:.

I was dubious about this whole thing before we did it (wasn't keen on the makeup) - but I have to say, the girls really enjoyed it and they looked beautiful. They also got so much lovely interaction and comments having been made up. The dresses are lovely and much better than the ones I've seen in the Disney Store here. I am pleased I waited until this year to do it though as they both sat so still and were little angels having it done.

I need to scan in the professional photos (we bought 3) as they are way better than ours, but here are a few.

Yes, my two are live wires too - hence my comment about waiting until they could sit and appreciate it. It also meant I could appreciate it too (they have a sofa next to where it is done for parents to sit), I wasn't stressing about them moving/trying to keep them still etc. Honestly think that is why they say 3 plus, but even at 3, both my girls would have found it difficult to sit that time :lmao:.

awwwwwwwwww what lovely pics & outfits!!!
look like they enjoyed it.... u shud def b proud of them!!

aww, they look lovel,y, bet they'll remember that for a long time!

I wish they did something like the pirate makeover at WDW for boys and the less girly girls.

Aww they look amazing! My daughter would absolutely love this but will have to save for a future trip as no spare pennies :confused3

How amazing would an adult version be?

They look beautiful princess:

I really love the princess makeovers!

That's annoying, having to pay for it all individually, you'd think they would have sorted that out for you the next day.

Thank you for sharing your experience - your girls are so cute and the pics are fab!
We to to disney next june, 2 weeks before my daughters 4th birthday and I'm weighing up whether to do the makeover thing. Wondering if it would be on as its just after school hols.
My daughter would sit still (as long as its not for ages and ages) - how long did the makeover bit take and did the lady ask you how to do the makeup as I'm not sure hubby would want much makeup on her (he's ok with face paints lol)

She was brill at a recent photoshoot we had so hoping she would be for this.

Do you know how much the package prices are? (The ones that inc the outfits - and do they just wear them for the pics or keep them afterwards?)
And how much are the professional pics?

Thank god I only have one girl or it would cost me too much lol x

I can't say for sure that it will be on but we went June this year (half term) and it was on then I'm sure. I got the impression that in quieter times they limit it to weekends but I'm not 100% on this. Nearer the time, you could always email guest relations and ask. You can't prebook anyway - not from the UK. You need to go in and book and pay at the same time. Some people just book on the day. When I went (the day before), the early morning slots had already gone. I was quite happy with this as we wanted 11 am anyway.

It takes about 20 mins to do hair and makeup. Then the photos take 5 mins or so.

I wasn't sure about the makeup either, but really it is quite tastefully done (and not too thick or anything - it's almost like glitter rather than eyeshadow, lipstick etc) and if you go for the facepaint, you can't really see the makeup anyway. She asked if we wanted facepaint and the girls did - once it was on, you could hardly see the makeup! She didn't ask if we wanted makeup but then I guess if I had told her at the beginning that would have been OK. I am sure I read someone else on here did this with their 3 year old. Also, my DD1 is very sensitive to makeup - she can only wear certain types of lipsyl for example - she was absolutely fine with everything on her face.

If you buy a package with a dress you get to keep that dress. I had to buy the dresses separately as I said, so it did end up more expensive. The prices have gone up - last list I saw on here I'm sure basic package was 40 euros, when ours was 45 euros. I think I have a link to the packages (sorry I didn't take an updated photo - wish I had, but add on about 5 euros and you should be about right). I'll find it and link it on here for you.

You can also take your own dress (from home) along and just get the basic package if you choose. Sometimes some of the US dresses are nicer than the DS/DLRP dresses so people buy those and use those instead. Have to say, we were more than happy with the dresses we got - I love DD2's as opposed to the one in the UK DS.

You get a photo with the dress packages. The 3 we bought were just like the normal photo prices - think it was around 25 euros for 3 photos. Wishing I'd bought a few more now as there were some gorgeous ones. Wish they did a CD like some places do where you can get them all and just pay one fee.

Yes, it wasn't cheap for 2 girls especially as we couldn't get the package, but it's a lovely memory and one I am sure they will cherish :lovestruc.

Hope this works:

Thanks to Pokerbanter & Dream is a Wish for the prices! Like I said, they are slightly out, add 5 euros or so...

Anyway, i found this pricelist from another thread and thanks go to user "A dream is a wish"

Thank you for all the lovely comments about the girls and their dresses etc.

I agree that it would be great to do a pirate makeover - even my girls would like that I'm sure pirate:.

Thanks for your reply :)
My little girl is sooo girly and princess mad so she would love it! But we go June 2-6 which is sun-thurs so if its weekend only we won't be able to do it anyway, I'll have to ask nearer the time and see what they say.
Would be great to see the old prices info if you have it, would give me an idea what to budget for with wanting to do other things too.
It's a shame they don't do a cd of the pics - they're definately missing out there as sure they'd be really popular!
Would have to hope the disney photographer was there for us as I'm rubbish at taking pics really.
Glad the make up isn't too much, hubby will be happy lol x

I have posted the prices now above :goodvibes.

Apparently they don't always have the photographer there - that is why they couldn't sell me the dress package! I tried to explain I was happy to have it without photo if that was the way it had to be but the woman wouldn't have it :lmao:.

I am sure it will be on then - that is when we went this year and it was on then :cool1:.

Agree on the CD - they could charge a fair bit and I am sure people would still buy.

Actually, it's funny but we found the bit of makeup they had on wore off as the day went on, but the facepaint stayed put (if a little blurry/smudged by the end of the night!). So, it shows she didn't put much on. I guess she tailors it to the age of the child, but anything you aren't happy with, just ask her. I am sure that she would have been very accommodating.

Oh, also meant to say, the packages only mention specific princesses but if you want a different one, there is no reason why you can't do this e.g. Mulan. You could take the dress like we did (on your child) and she will tailor the face paint to the dress :).

Hope it's not so confusing when we go - cant believe they couldn't tell you the day before if the photographer was going to be there or not - you'd have thought they would have it planned out! Would ideally like a dress package so that I didn't have to do a mad rush to find one and the accessories etc. - determined not to be my usual stressed self on this holiday lol x

I know, I wasn't too happy but we knew it was that day or never for us to do it. I am pleased the photographer was there though, as, as I thought, she got much better photos than we ever could.

It's not cheap, and honestly, I wasn't keen before (it was my Mum encouraging me), but now, I'd sell it to anyone :rotfl2:.

Don't forget, you can always buy a dress/accessories in the UK and take it across as a surprise for her. She isn't going to know it wasn't bought out there. That way, you get the dress you want and aren't worrying about not getting what you need out there. I was cross that the lady in WoD told me they didn't do a headpiece for Tiana - I even said 'What, no one sells one here in the park' and she said 'yes, they don't sell one at all' :sad2:. So, I was so pleased that I walked past the boutique on that morning and saw one!

Enjoy your planning :).
