Introduction

Hello all, and welcome to my first ever Trip Report!

My name is Megan, or Meg, or Princess as the title refers. princess:
I have been toying with the idea of posting my most recent trip, and I have finally decided to do it. Yeah, I know almost it's a year later, but I don't care. I did not journal this trip like I used to do when I was younger, but I can still remember pretty much everything that happened. Plus, I am still obsessed with my trip so here is yet another way to relive it.

Unfortunately, this trip took place during a very rough time in our lives. My mom had recently lost her job. She was very depressed during the whole trip. I can't blame her. And the people we brought along did not help make this any better, in fact they made it worse. We had this trip planned a year in advance, and everything but food and her park ticket(s) were paid for, so I am very grateful that she at least still got to go.
I was also depressed and worried about what was going on at home, but I managed to make the best of this trip. Hello, I was in Disney! and kinda for my college graduation! And it had been almost 6 years since I was last there.
Another negative thing about this trip, as you may have guessed, was the people that we brought along with us. It is quite a long story. I really want to try my best to leave them out of this report, seeing as they are now my ex-best friends. I am going to steal LifeisDis's label of "the other people" because she is awesome and I like that name. Also, I am going to cover their faces with some of my favorite Disney characters. Why? Because I can.

Anyway. On to introductions.
Even though 6 people were on the trip, I only really have to introduce 2.

First up.
Me.

Megan. The baker, runner, photographer, fashionista, leopard print loving, self proclaimed Disney Princess. princess: I am 22 years old, but more like 6 or 12 on any given day. I live in New York, and am kinda sorta crazy (in a good way I think). I am a recent college graduate, NOW with a bachelors of science in community health. Pascal attended my college graduation this past May too.

I am obsessed with the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter, Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, and Disney. I love to bake, run, sing, photograph, shop and style outfits.
My top Disney obsessions include Stitch, all thing Tangled, Epcot, Mickey shaped foods, and a life goal of running in every runDisney event. I wish everyday that I could be back in Walt Disney World. I get emotional just thinking about it. I am pretty much convinced if this whole community health career thing doesn't work out, I am just going to move to Disney and work in their bakery department. It's perfect.

My family have been DVC membesr since 1994. We used to go every year, until my dad got sick and passed away in 2002. This was the first time my mom and I had been to WDW together since 2002. Since I had only 1 visit in a span of 9 years, my level of obsession with the place was fairly low prior to the start of planning for this trip. But now....oh boy it is on a whole new world..I mean level.

Batting second.
Mom.

DSC_1000.jpg

DSC_0868-1_zps56bdbed3.jpg

She hates pictures btw, but I love these two of us

Mom has been to the world every time with me. Expect my softball spring training trip in 2006. But she's been to Disneyland once. So perhaps that balances it out. Luckily, she does not object to my Disney obsession. She loves Stitch just as much as I do. He is our 'Ohana. And she sends me pictures of every Rapunzel item she sees.

Trip details.

Our trip took place from January 8, 2012 to January 15, 2012.

We stayed in our DVC home resort of Old Key West in a Grand Villa!
DSC_0041.jpg

(Our second time in a GV and another not so magical trip. Trying again for our next trip in January 2014 with the best people ever, so third times a charm, right?)

We arrived the day OF the WDW Marathon, or else I would have been running yet. Looking back now, I don't know why I didn't just move the trip up by a day or 2 so I could run it. What was I thinking?! Obviously I wasn't. So dumb of me. That will be the start to our next trip. Me running the WDW Marathon! I am actually very much considering running the Goofy Challenge...

We had one ADR of Chef Mickey's for breakfast.

That being said, let me get this whole food issue out of the way.
I was sort of unaware of the magic that is Disney food (NOT including Mickey ice cream, of course) before my trip. I feel partially to blame is the fact that we have always stayed in an OKW room with a kitchen. So we would always either cook and eat in our room to save money or dine off property
What?! I know. Talking to my mom, they just might not have had the variety and choice of dining options back in the 90's when we went almost every year. But I have no idea, I have a list of Disney food I need to eat. Actually it's on my pintrest LOL

Even though I have been to Disney a lot in my life, I still had plenty of new things that I had to do and see on this trip. And now that I am older, I have a totally new love and appreciate for the place than I did when I was still a kid. But it is still just as magical :lovestruc:wizard:

Alright, I think that wraps it up.
SO
Please stand clear of the door, por favor, mantengase alejado de las puertas, as we start our journey...
:earsboy:

OF COURSE I AM HERE!!!!!!!

This is so awesome so far.

I'm sorry you were having a rough time during the trip. I know how hard that can be :(

And I think your mom and my mom are twins because they both hate pictures.

And thank you for the shout out!

I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE.

Thank you. Luckily she found a job at the end of August so we can happily talk about and plan our next trip now :cheer2:

Bahahaha! That's what I thought when I was reading your TRs

Planning and Pre-Trip

The thought to plan a trip to Walt Disney World with this group of "the other people" started in March of 2009. At that time, I thought that my 3 best friends (at the time) and I would go down and share a room at one of the value resorts. I didn't think about asking my mom about using our DVC.
It wasn't until August 2010 when I mentioned something to my mom about all the new attractions they have added and the reopening of Captain EO starring Michael Jackson (like I said in my introduction, I am obsessed with MJ), that she said we should plan a trip. Meaning a return to my beloved home of Old Key West! I was SO excited that we were actually making plans for a trip.

My most recent trip before this was in April of 2006 with my Varsity Softball trip for spring training, and it was one of the best weeks of my life.
Side bar, the field maintenance at Disney's Wide World of Sports was unbelievable. Amazing. Perfection. :thumbsup2

Before that, our last trip together was August 2002. That was the year my dad passed away. We brought some people as a thank you for everything they had helped with during the time, but everyone had a miserable time. Too many pre-teen girls together, and some wet-blankets I guess...
Before that, like I said my family went almost every year since we became members.

Back to August 2010. We decided on January 2012. We would all be available because we would be on winter break from college, and it would be our senior year. A good way to start our last semester.
We... (or I) kept everyone up to date on details, like when we booked the rooms and flights and we had a meeting to discuss airport transportation and our one ADR over the summer of 2011. There was quite a bit of drama during December 2011. Oh, sorry I actually know what I am doing and no one has any input when I ask them...

eh-hem. Let's just fast forward to the day before we left

Saturday January 7, 2012.

That's all you really need to know. Oh, and I wore my adorable Pooh Bear sweater I bought from F21 a few weeks before.

We're going to Disney World!

The alarm went off at 5 am. I sprang out of bed. It was finally the day I was going back to Walt Disney World! I was so excited. I ate some breakfast and got dressed. Remember in my introduction, I said I am a fashionista. Well I had almost all my outfits planned for like over a year. Told you I am crazy. they are nothing over the top or anything. They were just all relevant. For instance I bought a cute skirt from eBay that was red with white polka dots. ::MinnieMo

Another member of "the other people" party was coming to get my mom and me around 5:45, and I remember standing in the area were we enter the house from the garage..freezing...and holding my broken suitcase (oh yeah, I broke it trying to get all 50 pounds of it over the gap at the train station when I came home for winter break) and that is when everything got real. It hit me.
I was going to be in Walt Disney World..at Old Key West...TODAY. All the feelings, memories, sights, sounds and smells of my childhood would be back.

The other person put the Magical Express tag on her luggage and then we loaded the car, and headed over to meet up with the rest of "the other people" to make sure we all got to the airport. We hit the road around 6:15. The sun was not up yet. I gave one person from "the other people" a First visit button since, you guessed it, it was her first time to Disney! She wore it for all of 1 day......

We got to the airport. It was still cold. The sun was up by now. We checked in and checked our luggage. Went through security and to our terminal. Nothing spectacular happened in the airport. We finally boarded the plane. I listened to Disney music on my iPod, and before I knew it, we were starting our descent to Orlando! We landed. A smooth landing. I leaned over my mom to look out the window. Nothing but sunshine and palm trees. Ugh so beautiful. This was such a change for me. Going to school in a snow belt region for 4 years, this was not the weather I was used to in January. It was a welcomed change.

I turned my phone on to Facebook check-in to MCO. While I dislike Facebook immensely I decided I wanted to be very obnoxious this trip and 'check-in' to as many parks and attractions as possible.

We got off the plain and headed towards the tram. Some of "the other people" took pictures of me on the tram, and the expression of my face says how excited I was.

MCO
DSC_0022.jpg

We made our way down to the Magical Express.
DSC_0024.jpg

The Magical Express was something new to my mom. I had the pleasure of experiencing it in 2006. Before Disney had this lovely service, we always used to rent a car. Which probably also contributes to the whole not eating Disney food thing...

DSC_0023.jpg

Anyway. We got onto the pretty Magical Express motor coach after waiting for ours to arrive. We actually had a Disney Cruise Line bus as we can tell from the seat decor.

DSC_0031.jpg

DSC_0026.jpg

Now we were on our way! I was so over come with joy at this point. That movie, the lump in my throat was forming as I was trying to hole back tears of joy and happiness. This will be a reoccurring theme in this report. And I guess as I write it too #disneyprobs

DSC_0032.jpg

Then they appeared. That beautiful sign!!

DSC_0036.jpg

I didn't get a good picture of it, but whatever. I was on Disney property. And those gorgeous Mickey ear high way signs. Obsessed since forever.
Irony is that my summer job entails making signs.
First stop for this Magical Express. Old Key West!

DSC_0040.jpg

Me cries!
My home!
Omg it just gives me all sorts of feelings of my childhood. I just started snapping pictures. I love my home. The colors, the music, those lights outside the hospitality house.

DSC_0049.jpg

Mom and I went into the hospitality house to check-in. Here we encountered a not so friendly CM. We gave him our name but there was no reservation. What? We gave him the name of a person in our party with the A starting last name. Nothing. Ok... At this point we just started listing everyone's last name, and we found it. It was weird how the reservation didn't save under our last name and that it didn't save in alphabetical order. It just decided to jumble up the list and pick a random person. My mom was wishing, and hoping, and praying that we would be on Turtle Pond Road. She requested it when she made the reservation in February. We have great memories at the Turtle Shack.
No such luck though. Turns out we could switch in like 2 days because a few families were leaving. She would think about it. She had no problem packing everything up and relocating but she had a feeling "the other people" would not be so happy with the idea. We were on South Point Road. Which seems eerily familiar to our last trip when we were also NOT on Turtle Pond Road because we booked so late. And it was horrible. It was SO FAR from the pool and SO FAR from the bus stop.
So after breaking my moms heart about our location, we got our lovely Keys to the World and they called a van/shuttle whatever you wanna call it and we were off to our home for the next week.

Turns out, this was a different part of South Point Road. Actually the bus stop was right across the street! And walking distance to the main pool was not that bad! We ended up staying. Mom and I loved the location so much we are going to request building 47 or 48 next time instead of Turtle Pond Road. I had the pleasure of opening the door.
(I have already had so many points in this post where there is a nice picture of me. But I didn't take it. So it's not mine)

DSC_0042.jpg

We just all scattered out to check out every room in the house. Just as amazing as I remember. But last time I was only in the Master bedroom for like 5 seconds, this time, I bunked with my mom in said master bedroom. I was so in love. Ugh that bathroom and the Floridian inspired architecture and decor. Oh the little things.

DSC_0043.jpg

My first towel animal!

DSC_0044.jpg

DSC_0045.jpg

So we all dropped off our stuff and headed right back out the door for grocery shopping.

DSC_0048.jpg

This meant a quick stop at Downtown Disney. My love.
But first. It was time to eat. I was starving. We headed to the main pool and we all grabbed some food from Good's Food to Go.

DSC_0050.jpg

I got chicken nuggets. I was not happy to see they were not Mickey shaped.

DSC_0051.jpg

Magical napkins

DSC_0054.jpg

Beautiful view

So after food, we got on a boat to DTD. I swear this was the slowest boat ever.

I brought two lens adapters and only busted them out like once each. So here's me using my fisheye...

Oh, so you did all of the planning and “the other people” didn’t? Sounds like some other people I know…

AND OH MY GOD THAT POOH SHIRT. LOVE.

Sunshine and palm trees. How I miss thee. :sad1: AND DISNEY.

Your “other people” sound exactly like my grandmother, or at least how you thought they would be with switching rooms at OKW. She HATED switching resorts.

Oh my goodness, your villa is beautiful. I don’t understand how “the other people” didn’t like it. Weirdos.

WHY DOESN’T EVERY RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD HAVE MAGICAL NAPKINS?!

I mean, obviously I know what I'm doing. I am not gonna take that responsibility if I do not. BUT. When I am asking for input and things...and I don't get any answers...don't get pissed at me when I actually have an itinerary of things I wanna see. Nobody said you have to tag along...geez.
Plus. Type A personality at it's finest. I would just rather be over prepared and over informed than under prepared and under informed....

Didn't really have the money for it, BUT LOOK AT THAT FACE pooh:

Oh boy, that is a big move compared to a room...but I would be SO excited to move resorts during a trip!

They were just not impressed. WHAT?! How?!? My mom thinks there is something wrong with us because we're like this is AMAZE how do you guys not care???! :confused3

Stitch!!

DSC_0080.jpg

I was on the search for Mickey Mouse ears headband with the fantasia hat. No such luck. Bummer. But I did get pixie dusted. pixiedust:

PIXIE DUST EVERY WHERE!!!

So, we continue our adventure to off property. We walked by all the non Disney operated hotels. Actually, not a bad walk. Well this is coming from a runner who's current run mileage for a normal run is 7.25 miles. But I remember not making this walk when I was 5. Daddy had to carry me. So we made it to off property. :( But at least the signs are pretty.

DSC_0088.jpg

And crossed the street to the shopping plaza to get some groceries.... I know I know....

I did buy whole wheat bagels because I packed a jar of Nutella. Packed. Nutella.

A Mears transportation guy offered to give us a ride back even though he wasn't suppose to. So nice of him! What service, he dropped us off right in front of our building! After we unpacked our groceries, and yours truly organized everything, we changed into bathing suits and hit the pool. We decided on the main pool because...well why not? Ok, not really, I very much dislike the one of the 2 smaller ones I was at last time, and I felt like the awesome one at Turtle Pond Road was farther away. Also, I wanted a refillable mug. Because I like diet coke. Actually I ended up drinking the Minute Maid Light pomegranate lemonade because it was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Ever. The pool was a little chilly. Pretty sure the heater was broken that day from what I remember. So I spent more time in the hot tub. This is quite rare for me, I never go in hot tubs when there is a huge pool! But I guess that is what happens when I'm in WDW in January and not August.
After we had our share of pool and hot tub time, it was back to the room to prepare for tomorrow...

Return to Epcot

I woke up at 6 am. This will also be a reoccurring theme. I know the whole no sleeping in Disney thing, but I just wake up (sometimes extremely) early anyway on a regular basis. Even when I was falling asleep between 12:30 and 1am...
So, I got up, ate some breakfast, checked my email and twitter and what not. Got dressed around 7, and then out the door to the bus stop at 8:15ish I believe.

First park was of the week was Epcot! I love this park. I'm pretty sure the last time I was in Epcot was in 2000?! I don't think I went on the last trip with my mom because she finds Epcot....*gasp* boring! How dare she?! That's ok for now though, that opinion will be changed by our next trip. It better....

The bus arrived. A quick bus ride since OKW is close to Epcot. And before I knew it, I saw it. Spaceship Earth. So beautiful. I have missed it so. Oh the feelings that I get just thinking about walking into Epcot.

DSC_0117.jpg

Everyone went and got their park tickets for the week. Lucky me, I had a 5 Day Park Hopper ticket from 1995 that still had 3 days on it! Just the amount of days I needed. And the park hopper was still good! I needed to use this PH so bad!!

DSC_0122.jpg

My wallet for the week.

DSC_0123-1.jpg

We then headed over to the bag check line, which went quickly, then through the turn-style and EPCOT!

DSC_0136-1.jpg

My original plan was to just turn right and make a bee-line to Captain EO. since I have waited so very long to see it. But that plan was quickly surrendered. I decided it would be smart to hit some big rides first.

We took a left for Test Track and Mission Space.

DSC_0142.jpg

My dad and I have always, always, ALWAYS wanted to go on Test Track. I feel like every time we were in the park, Test Track was down for refurbishment or just not operating. Actually, I just looked Test Track up on Wikipedia and there is part about problems and delays with it's opening. He never got to ride it. :(
So this was MY first experience.

Even though this was my first time going, I love Disney in January. We walked on to Test Track. I snapped a bunch of pictures along the way, but it was like a blur. We went to watch the video. And we were loaded into our car. I took the front.

The best part was definitely when the semi comes out! LOL We all screamed!

So like I said this was my first time on Test Track, but I know about the wall 'crash' scene. I may or may not know that from awesome commercials in Disney resorts where they get you really scared about a part of the ride...or at least things like that scared me as a kid...like Tower of Terror..when a kid loses his mouse ears...anyone remember that one?

But I am convinced ..not like I would know...that when our car was at that part of the ride, it malfunctioned or something.
Ok I also just utilized Wiki, and the picture IS suppose to be taken before you hit the barrier, right? No, ours is us sitting there away from the wall. We were just sitting there for an awful long time too. Our picture is us just sitting there in the car like "Derp, what is going on?"

I wish I had that picture it is actually kinda funny.

So after a quick loop around the track...next up was Mission Space!!!

DSC_0172.jpg

DSC_0174_zpsf224a028.jpg

DSC_0179_zpsf4cbbc3f.jpg

Another ride I have been OBSESSED WITH without even going on it. It actually opened up right around the time I was down in 2006 with my softball team. Unfortunelty we didn't go to Epcot. We had a 3 day pass and only used 2 days. Ugh.
I was dying to ride it! I love simulation things (anyone remember body wars? #healthfreakstatus) And I have an infatuation with all things astronomy. The idea that it simulates a shuttle launch is like heaven. Plus, Gary Sinise stars in it :bitelip:

3 of us picked the high intensity and the other 2 other people picked the low intensity. I was bouncing off the walls walking onto this ride. Oh yes WALK ON again. Which looking back now is kinda a little sad because this is one place where I wanted to look at EVERYTHING they had in the queue. Oh well. I was still bouncing off the wall with excitement as we approached our shuttle. There was this one little girl who had this adorable little ribbon and Mickey Mouse around her ponytail. I ended up finding it and purchased it. Remember folks, I am 6.

I can not remember what role I had, but whatever it was, I hit that button when Mr. Sinise told me to. That lift-off was amazing. I loved every second of it. That is just something I want to experience again and again and again

Your Stitch wallet is SO cute!

I AM DYING OMG THE FACES YOU PUT ON “THE OTHER PEOPLE” OMG. :rotfl: :lmao:

I have always been afraid to go on Mission: Space. I mean, I was always afraid to go on ToT, but now I LOVE it. I really should give Mission: Space a try. I know Mum won’t go on it, but whatever.

WE ARE HERE TO CHANGE THE WORLD Part I

Next, we worked our way counter-clockwise around future world. We headed over to see Ellen, after we stopped to watch the Jammitors play.

DSC_0191_zps54f89876.jpg

I specifically remember starting to sweat here. This was probably the warmest day during the trip, but standing next to the building made of mirrors was just intensifying the heat.
All this environmental stuff reminded me how I was starting school again like as soon as I got back home. :( No bueno. I was actually taking an environmental health class the following semester too. That was the one class I was not looking forward to. I definitely learned more from Ellen than in 15 weeks in my class...

Next, was the Seas with Nemo and Friends. Something new for me again.

Next. The Land.

DSC_0279_zpsac90b77d.jpg

DSC_0278_zps64c29999.jpg

First we went and watched the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable An inside joke of the group was the opening to The Lion King.
"NAAAANTS INGONYAMA BAGITH BABA!"
As you are probably aware, that is how the Fable opens up. We starting cracking up at that point.

Next we went on living with the land. I kinda do not remember ever going on this in my life.

DSC_0227_zps73dbdb53.jpg

I love all the fruits and veges though.

DSC_0256_zps6f73a559.jpg

DSC_0259_zps4eeac42c.jpg

I need to do the tour one day to see Mickey shaped pumpkins and watermelons. Mickey + Food = Fun

Next we grabbed Fast Passes for Soarin'. Another new item for me. I did not plan this well, we got our FP as 11ish for 745? I didn't think that was too bad since we had plenty of time to kill going around the world.

We exited The Land and FINALLY headed over to the Imagination Pavilion. :jumping1:

I have watched Captain EO on YouTube...and I have it saved onto a DVD I burned. But Michael Jackson in 3D is 456345634535436 times better. Perfect. The closest I will get to seeing him live </3
Obviously, I loved Captain EO. I was singing along, tearing up. The usual. :cloud9:

Let's keep a secret. I was very tempted to steal the glasses. Actually I was going to come back to Epcot utilizing my Park Hopper to just watch it again and steal borrow them. But. I never got a chance to break away from the group to go to a park on my own..because it was like they couldn't figure out what to do if my mom or I left them...yet, I was a b**** for planning things?

After seeing the king, and no not the lion one.. I went to the gift shop because I needed Captain EO merch!

Jumping fountains FTW

Cha-ching!

I got a poster, a Captain EO t-shirt, A Captain EO shirt so I can be like Mike, and a key chain for my good MJ-fan friend, Jackie.
Ship that back to the room please. There are so many perks of being a DVC member that I have just not experienced before until this trip because I was too young to care or even need to know.

Next up, World Showcase. After some cute pictures in front of the Fountain of Nations and Spaceship Earth.

Well some of us. For some reason, I was not hungry. Which is so weird, I'm always hungry. I did sample some chips though.
I need to get these tacos next time I go though, they look delicious.

That Pooh one was a 3D, but some of the 2D ones had 2 different images depending what side you viewed it from
