Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

Kim,

How was your trip ??? Hope you had a great time. Were you able to see Candlelight ??

Trip was great, although it was a long short weekend! :goodvibes Buttonwillow wasn't too bad, got on the road around 4:50 Sat, and are you ready for this, I used cruise control all the way to Dodger Stadium!!! I could kept it on cruise the whole way down, but they had dense SF-like fog that set in around the stadium so I took it off, but there was no stopping, no slowing... even typing it I don't believe it!! Saw Candlelight it was awesome, you wouldn't think they could fit that many singers in that little area. I also saw them making the candy canes in DCA on Sat, were you able to get one last weekend and figure out why they're so popular?

On a side note, someone mentioned in the DL 1/2 thread and I had to check it out b/c I didn't believe it, but did you see how much they're now charging for the race next year? I can't believe it!!! You'd think our medals are made out of gold or something.

How much???

I read, I think on FB, today that it's starting at $175? Is that what you read too? That is nuts-o! What's even crazier is they raise the prices every year, raise the capacity and STILL manage to sell all of them out. I'm wondering where the breaking point is!?!

Yeah, that's what I read and thought too! :sad2: And that doesn't even include the active fee which is at least $10 or $15! I'm really torn over the price too. I know it's $25 more than this past year, but like you said, when's it going to stop? As much as I love the Disney events, at some point you just get priced out.

The other thing that I thought was interesting is that unless they change the times after reg opens like they did w/ Tink, the start time is still 6:45 for the 5k and 5:45 for the 1/2. I was kinda hoping that b/c the changed Tink in the dead of winter to 5:45 for the 5k and 5 for the 1/2 they would do the same for the end of summer, usually warm around finishing time they would move that start up too. Oh well!

I'm SO glad you had a great weekend !!! Candy canes and Candlelight...doesn't get bettter than that. No, I can't believe you had NO traffic. That is wonderful especially since it was a short trip. I'm glad you were able to see Candlelight. No candy canes for us this year. We were not early enough. I still have two from prior years in the pantry but will not dare open them. (I know kind of silly)

No I had not heard anything about the $$$ of the DL 1/2. With the cost increase of the AP's, yes I can believe the price of the race. Disney knows that people will spend the money and it will sell out. I am disappointed to hear of the price jump but I can't imagine not doing it. I guess I just will not spend as much $$ at the expo on merchandise. (I can say that now :rotfl:)
I'm not on facebook so I did not hear anything, but was there any mention of when registration starts ?? It would be great to register at the Tink expo then avoid the active fees.

Gah... they changed the course. I'm pouting.

I injured my ankle tuesday of last week and I am still unable to do a workout. It feels much better this week, until I get on the treadmill. I refuse to bum out about this. My training had been going very well..... So, I have lots to do between now and Dec. 20, and then I am out of town until the first of the year,

If I am healed by the first of the year, I know I have a decent shot at completing Tink. Sure, I wanted to work on speed, but it may not happen. So, for now, I will have to say just finishing will be enough.

Chrisitine,
I'm am sorry to hear of your ankle. :sad2: You said it yourself your training has been going really well, just remember that !!!! Just try and take care of yourself and maybe your ankle will be healing faster than you expected it to. I'm sure you will have no trouble finishing---especially with all the training you have done.

You would also be surprised what you can do on race day....I was sick for the DL 1/2 in Sept. It was not the time I was hoping for but I really believe it was my training that got me through.

Just try and keep a positive outlook !!:cheer2:

Thanks, Vicki. I will take the focus off my training and put it into the holiday madness (which I typically avoid!). If I can get some workouts in, great. If not, I won't sweat it for the next 2-3 weeks.

Holiday madness indeed !!! Last night I spent more time wrapping gifts than on the treadmill. :confused3 Just when I think I'm done decking the halls......I remember something else that I've got to get done.

Is this for the Tink? No Angel Stadium? I thought that was the best part...I am doing Princess this year at WDW but was thinking Tink for 2014. Bummer if the course is not as fun.

I've been more of a lurker than a poster here, but I just did my first 13+ mile training run on Sunday! I didn't GPS it, but it was somewhere around 13.25 miles and I finished in 2:38. I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of myself given that I just started running last February and up to this point I'd never run farther than 10 miles. I did learn a lot during this one and thought I'd share in case anyone else is in the same boat...

1. A 30/30 run/walk interval works best for me on long runs at this point. I was pretty much able to maintain that for most of the run with just a few extra walk breaks.
2. I run my best between miles 5-10. My per mile pace was almost a whole minute faster during this part of my run than that of the 5K I ran on Saturday!
3. Body glide, body glide, body glide! I cannot use too much of this stuff on long runs -- I had chaffing from my sports bra and shirt sleeves that started around mile 8. Not fun.
4. I need to remember to check the weather forecast BEFORE heading out for a long run. I also need to remember to take my visor/hat if there is even a slight chance of rain (otherwise rain and sweat run into my eyes and blind me...).
5. I do not particularly like to run in the rain. Well, let me clarify. I don't mind running when its sprinkling -- that's actually kind of refreshing. I do not, however, like carrying around 10 pounds of water logged clothing and a small pond in my shoes while running. I found this out when it started to pour around mile 9. And about 3 miles from home...
6. And most importantly, I CAN run a half marathon and not die! I was pretty achy Sunday evening, but that was all pretty much gone by Monday. I feel great today and am even looking forward to the 4 miler on the schedule for tonight:)

My real test will be in 2 weeks. I will be braving the arctic tundra like conditions of northern Indiana for my 14 mile run. Okay, well maybe "arctic tundra" is a bit of a stretch, but it will certainly seem like one given that I'm used to running in 60-80 degree weather in NC! LOL!

The Tink course is fun! No Angel Stadium, but we get to run through downtown Anaheim and more residential area which is a lot better to look at then the industrial area between Ball and the Stadium. It also seemed like there were more people out for Tink than DL, w/ the residential areas there were people on their front lawns cheering. You should come out for '14, you won't be disappointed!!

I'm with Kim...the Tink course is FUN !! I actually like much more than the DL 1/2 course.

Welcome !!!! Congrats on your training !!!!

Arctic tundra ......I also think anything below 60 degree weather is the "arctic tundra". :rotfl:

I am signed up with daughter for race. I'm slightly worried about getting swept. I'm right at cut off. Ill just have to do what I can. I'm will be crying if I can't finish lol

This is different. It used to go through DL at the start and DCA toward the finish. This as both parks at the beginning. I'm a bit bummed by this as I always loved looking forward to finishing through one of the parks. WDW does this and the early DL halfs did this as well. It does give them more time to clean up and prepare for park opening though.
