Hi, and welcome to my first Disney Trip Report! I’m Ariana, I’m 39 years old and live outside of Atlanta, GA. I gave a lot of information about myself and my Disney history in the first post on my PTR so rather than repeat it all here’s a link if you are interested:

November 2012 PTR

This time it was just me and my Mom. We are both avid Disney fans and go with family a lot. This is the first time that just the two of us went. She lives up north near the rest of my family so I only get to see her a few times a year. It’s a bummer because we are very close and I miss her a lot. Here we are on the Wild Africa Trek we did this trip (which was an awesome tour and we want to do it every time we go to Disney):

132.jpg

Mom's on the left and then me. I just thought I would specify that since several times people thought we were sisters! Great compliment for Mom, not so much for me. :rotfl:

Some General Info about the trip:

Dates: Sunday, November 25th through Saturday, December 1st
Resort: Caribbean Beach
Dining: Regular Dining Plan

We had an amazing, wonderful trip, very different from our normal. We slowed down a lot this time (only made rope drop one time!) and just took everything in. We didn't get on every ride we wanted to but were ok with that since we knew we would be back in Jan 2014.

We got to experience New Fantasyland but despite my stalking abilities we missed Test Track and the new Pirates experience at HS. No worries, that will be something new to catch next time.

We had some great new dining experiences and one not so great one.

I got Mom the Africa Trek for her birthday and she said it was the best birthday gift ever! It was the highlight of our trip as we both are animal lovers.

I'm going to leave it at this for the into and get into the meat of the trip in the next post.

Next up: Time to head to Disney!

Let’s get this TR started!

It was pretty nice to have three days off before leaving for Disney. Both mine and DH’s families are out of town and we did not travel home for Thanksgiving so we had a pretty quiet day. DH does the cooking so while he prepared the Turkey and fixings, I spent the day cleaning and doing laundry. I got most of the house cleaned that day.

Friday we took it easy and I dragged DH to see the final Twilight movie. I also packed for my trip and put up a few meager Christmas decorations. I meant to take pictures of those and post them on my PTR but never got around to it. I stayed up pretty late Friday so I would be tired Saturday night. I spent most of the time working on a 2000 piece puzzle because I was determined to finish it before my trip (I did finish). I think I made it to bed somewhere around 2 am.

Saturday, I was up early and off to the local animal shelter where I volunteer from about 8 am till 3 pm every week. I only was able to get two kittens adopted that day but at least those two found homes! After, I headed home, finished packing, did a few more chores around the house then headed to bed about 8 pm. Surprisingly I fell asleep pretty quickly considering how excited I was.

And then it was Disney Day! My alarm went off around 3:45 am. I took a quick shower and finished packing last minute items. My dog Alex tried to unpack the suitcase by stealing socks out of it. He has a weird sock fetish. Despite his best efforts to keep me home, DH and I made it out the door at:

001.jpg

Not bad considering I wanted to get on the road by 5:15. My flight was at 7:50 am and I was determined to get to the airport early. I had an hour wait to get through security when I flew home in July so I wanted to leave plenty of time this trip.

I was bouncing off the walls and so excited for Disney. DH on the other hand was not so excited since he had to get up so early to take me to the airport. He did take the time to pose for me and give me his best grumpy face:

002.jpg

After a quick stop for gas, we headed to the airport. DH dropped me off right at 6:00 am. I entered the airport to find a huge line to check my bag because Delta only had one on-line check-in line open. :headache: I thought, here we go and got in line. About a minute later, they opened a second line and after the third time the Delta employee yelled about the second line and no one in front of me moved, I jumped in front of about 20 people into the new line and had my bag checked in less than five minutes. Score!

There was no line for security so I zipped right through there and was at my gate at 6:35. It was a huge relief to be at my gate and have a few minutes to relax. I didn’t get out my camera at the gate because it was still dark out. We boarded right on time as the sun came up and I took this picture out of my window. I also wanted to show how filthy my window was!

photo5.jpg

I turned the other way and snapped a picture to show how crowded the plane was:

776.jpg

Just kidding! I had a whole row to myself as did most people on the plane. It was so empty.

The flight was uneventful other than the cheesy safety video they showed. I’ve never seen that before on Delta. It just seemed like they were trying to make it entertaining. I will admit it got me to watch when I normally don’t pay attention. I read some magazines and before I knew it, we were starting to descend. I was excited to catch a glimpse of Spaceship Earth and the Swan and Dolphin out of my window but had put away my camera and didn’t get a picture. I did get my camera out after we landed and tried to snap a picture of the mini monorail out of the plane window. It’s there if you look really hard:

photo1.jpg

I got off the plane pretty quickly and we were 15 minutes early which was nice. I snapped a few photos on the way.

Christmas tree by the gates (you can tell I'm trying to walk and take pictures at the same time by how crooked the photo is):

Several pictures of the mini monorail:

It was so big that I couldn’t get the whole thing in the photo. I was taking pictures and looking for Mom but she spotted me first and snuck up on me. I wanted to get a photo of her waiting for me since her plane landed 45 minutes before mine but I missed my opportunity.

We talked about getting a quick snack as our lunch ADR wasn’t till 2 pm but decided we could wait. We headed down the escalators to the Magical Express which I’m proud to say I found with no problem. After a quick bathroom stop, we breezed into the line and I snapped this quick picture:

010.jpg

We were the only one in our line and they took us immediately. It turns out they had a bus almost full and we were the last to board so we left right away. It went so quickly that I didn’t get a picture of our Magical Express bus but it was one of the regular ones. We were on our way to our resort by 9:45 am.

Up next: We make it to Disney!

I'm here! Saving my spot! Going back to read now...

Oh, you had an early flight. I like early flights...more time in our happy place! Can't wait to see where your first ADR is! :goodvibes And I can't wait to see your first food porn pictures for the trip... ::yes::

I am here!

Great start! ROFL about the sock fettish... MM has the same problem. As a result, I have paired socks all over my desk, because otherwise they'd be obliterated. I just don't get it???

Loved the new photo of you and your mom! For the record - I knew which one you were. ::yes::

I am dying to hear more about your Dismeet with Nini... and I have my fingers crossed that you two had a photo taken. ;)

D~

Sorry D~ I don't think we had any pictures ..... I felt like I was stalking her...I think we saw her a total of 4 times... after the first 2 I stopped going up to her! LOL! Even my kids were spotting her!

I'm here! Great first update, looks pretty familiar, like I was just there or something :rotfl:

Glad you made it. Hmmmm... maybe that's because you just were? :confused3:rotfl2:

Subbing! I love mother daughter trips!

:welcome: Glad you have joined in, don't be a stranger. :goodvibes

The early flight worked out good for me since I made it to bed early. Not so much for Mom. She had company and only got about 3 hours of sleep. We ended up cutting our first day a little short as you'll see a bit later.

I took plenty of food porn pictures! I don't think I'll get to it next update but probably the third one will have some.

Glad you found it!

Alex has had his sock fetish since the day we brought him home at 8 weeks old. No idea where it came from but he is totally obsessed by them. When one of mine or DH's socks gets a hole in it, we tie it in a knot (so we know they are his) and give it to Alex. I don't even try to explain the piles of socks all over my house anymore. I do have to warn guests that stay over night to hide their socks cause he always goes straight for their suitcases!

No we didn't get a photo taken. :( I wish we had but when she first approached me I went into my super shy mode and barely said two words. I don't know why I do that and wish I could have done that meeting over again.

Awwww, I wish you would have approached me again. :goodvibes Like I said to D~ above, I went into shy mode when you first approached me. I realized after you left I didn't even introduce Mom! Next time we meet I will do better! ::yes::

LOL... my kids were making a game of it to see who found you first! My 12 year old wanted to know how come, two or three of the times we saw you, you were eating...I said because we were at Disney...and then reminded her we were eating as well! LOL...

Mr D (my special needs child) told me I had to be good, because some one I knew might see me misbehave (something we try to tell him all the time) and then he proved it by seeing you!

(I wasn't always on my best behavior though!)

Seriously.... 2 of my bags in the SAME place at the SAME time - and totally random strangers... And NO pictures... Pfft...

OK - each of you send me a picture, and I will photoshop it. :thumbsup2

D~ <--- Yes, I would totally do that... And NO one would ever know. :scratchin

Now I'm curious to know where else you saw me? Guess I was too busy stuffing my face to look around and notice you! :lmao:

As for misbehaving in Disney, what happens in Disney stays there right? Well except for everything that makes it on the DIS!

Hmm... once was at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. We had just left there and were heading to Soarin' again...

My problem is...someone 'borrowed' my notebook from the stroller. All my notes were in there. I have zero memory! (comes from age and 5 kids I'm sure!)

Let's see...Hollywood Studios...that was the first...we were both eating. And then at Animal Kingdom you saw me first...I was just a few minutes away from ME having a meltdown...LOL.

And, now I can't remember! I know there was once Mr D found you first, and once Miss B saw you first...but I can't remember where that was...maybe I will remember to ask them after school!

When I left off, Mom and I had just boarded the Magical Express and were on our way to CBR.

After we pulled out of the airport, Mom got out a bunch of brochures she had picked up at work. She works for AAA and gets all kind of different Disney information. We were so immersed in the brochures and talking about what we would be doing, neither one of us saw the welcome gates! So no picture, but we were pretty far back in the bus and I probably wouldn’t have gotten one any way.

We were the first to get dropped off and I did try to snap a picture of the Caribbean Beach sign as we pulled into the resort. It turned out pretty dark though because it was really sunny:

011.jpg

I went immediately to the On-line check in and there was no line so we got waited on pretty quickly. I had asked for Jamaica 45 or Aruba 51 but we were given Barbados 11. Looking at the map that was about the farthest you could be from Centertown unless you were in Trinidad North/Pirate rooms. So I asked if there was any way we could get into Jamaica or Aruba. The CM said he would see what he could do and got on the phone. So I snapped a few pictures of the Custom House while I was waiting:

012.jpg

013.jpg

014.jpg

And anyone who has mentioned how good it smells in there is not kidding. I just stood there taking deep breaths of that wonderfully beachy smelling air. The CM was having some trouble as we were staying till Saturday and the Pop Warner kids were coming in Friday and would be staying in Jamaica and Aruba. But after a few minutes, he said they could get us into Jamaica 42. After consulting the map, it was easy to see that this room would be much closer than the Barbados room so we took it.

The room was ready so we headed out the side door and waited on the internal shuttle. I wasn’t sure we could take that since I had a carry-on bag but the CM at check in said it was fine. We even saw a family later in the week getting on one with all of their luggage. I’m guessing it depends on the driver. We were on the shuttle and on the way to Jamaica by 10:30 am. Not bad if I say so, we left MCO at 9:45 am and were already checked in and on the way to our room 45 minutes later.

We got off at the Jamaica stop and after a few minutes of wandering around, we found our room, 4206. It was in the perfect location for Mom and me. It was on the 1st floor and faced a small courtyard away from the pool and lake so it was very quiet. The ice machine was only a few doors away too (very important to me as I get ice every night because I like to drink ice water before bed). I didn’t get any pictures of our view at that time but I did take quite a few of the room.

We freshened up a bit and while we were doing so, DME delivered Mom’s suitcase to the room. I figured mine would arrive later since I got in an hour after her. About 11:15 we left our room and headed to the bus stop. We had a few minutes to wait for a bus and I think one from every park but the one we were headed to came first. But despite that, we were on the bus to Epcot by 11:30 am. We did have to make a longer stop to load three scooters. Mom and I didn’t mind though because we were checking out the whole process. We might bring my Great-Aunt next year so we spent a lot of time observing the handicapped process on many of the rides. She is in her 80s and would need a wheelchair or scooter.

We entered Epcot a little before noon and had a few photo pass pictures taken. I’m going to have to post those later as I haven’t received the CD yet. There were a few pictures missing from the web site so it took a few extra days to straighten that out and place my order.

Our lunch ADR was for 2 pm so we had a few hours to kill. We walked towards Spaceship Earth and I checked the Disney Mobile Magic App (which was spotty at best. It kept going black on me and I would have to delete it and reload. I hope the new one is better). Spaceship Earth had a 35 minute wait and Soarin’ was at 50 minutes with fastpasses pretty late in the evening. Nemo said 20 minutes so we headed that way because I know that line goes pretty fast.

As we walked by Spaceship earth, I snapped this picture with my I-phone which I later posted on Facebook with the caption “Feels like coming home”.

photo4.jpg

We got to the Seas building…

034.jpg

and got in line for Nemo. This is where the first part of my title comes from. My Mom has progressive lens and when we stepped into the Nemo building she was immediately blind because her glasses were still dark. She was stumbling along and holding onto me and that was when she said “Oh my, I can’t see a thing”. It struck us both as really funny and we were giggling a lot. She did try to take her glasses off but she is very nearsighted so it didn’t help much. This became a recurring theme the whole week, every time we stepped into a dark building I would get the giggles and ask if she could see.

Any way, we walked right through the first room but in the second room there was a line. In all, we waited about 10 minutes to get on Nemo. My little camera doesn’t do well in the dark so I didn’t get any pictures. We both agreed that Disney could have done a lot more with this ride.

When we got off, my mom realized she had a missed call so we headed towards the exit since reception is really bad in the Seas building. While she checked her voice mail and returned the call (her neighbor wanted to bring dinner over. Mom was not sad to tell her that she was on vacation because the neighbor is a horrible cook) I browsed in the dump shop. I found a cute onsie with the “Mine, Mine, Mine” birds on it that I got later in the week for a coworker. I’ve got pictures of all my souvenirs that I will post at the end. I did snap a picture of these cute cookies because one was Pluto!

026.jpg

I never did buy one though. Not for $4.95 each!

After that we headed to Turtle Talk with Crush. I had never seen the show and wanted to make sure and catch it this time. We just missed a show so while we waited, I snapped a few pictures in the waiting area.

027.jpg

028.jpg

032.jpg

We both thought the show was very cute. I think the show is one you could watch many times as its probably different each time. One little girl asked him how old he was and when he said 150, she immediately said “That’s what you told me three years ago”. It was hilarious listening to Crush try to explain that one. He fumbled around a bit and finally said something about being only as old as you feel.

After the show it was about 1:15 pm and we were starving so we started to make our way back to the World Showcase for our 2:00 lunch.

Along the way, we found my favorite guy:

035.jpg

036.jpg

And I also snapped a picture of the Epcot tree:

I think I will leave this installment here and save our lunch for the next one. Sorry no food porn yet!

Next up: Our favorite meal of the trip

Wow~you did get to your room quickly after landing! :thumbsup2 I am quite sure things move along much quicker when you don't have three children to wrangle... :faint: :rotfl2:

"That's what you said three years ago!"... :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: That is AWESOME!!! Yes, that is a wonderful show, and we see it every time. :goodvibes

No food porn pictures yet? :confused3 We have to wait for the next post??? :scared1: Oh the torture! The suspense! popcorn:: Can't wait to see what your favorite restaurant choice is! :surfweb: Ours was Chef's de France...::yes::

I agree that Disney could have done a lot more with the Nemo ride, though I do like it. That line is quite dark too, so I'm sure with progressive lenses it was almost impossible to see!!!

I actually thought of you when I saw the Pluto topiary during my trip, and hoped you saw it! :goodvibes

Yep definitely easier when it's just me and Mom. Sending our checked luggage directly to the resort with DME also helps a lot.

I think Turtle Talk is on my must do list now! It was very funny when that little girl questioned Crush!

Don't worry, the food porn pictures are coming. I actually have the next installment written but my Photo Pass CD shipped yesterday so I'm going to hold off a few days. Besides, you did ask me to drag this out to October! :rotfl:

Yeah, Mom could not see anything! There was a family behind us so we had to keep moving. We should have stopped and let them go in front of us, not sure why we didn't think of that! :confused3

As soon as I saw the Topiaries at the front of Epcot I knew Pluto had to be somewhere and was on the lookout. I'm pretty sure Mom actually spotted him first though!

Sunshine Seasons would have been Thursday morning, we had breakfast there. I think I probably had my nose to my phone as I was texting back and forth with my Cousin who is a big Disney fan. I does seem like we were on the same schedule!

I know what you mean about needing a journal. I would be lost without mine.

Just joining in! It sounds like you both had a lovely trip. Mother-Daughter trips are so awesome!

I remember at one point I had glasses that transitioned from regular to sunglasses and they definitely caused some problems with bright light to dark. I look like I am wearing sunglasses in one school picture from years ago :lmao:

Looking forward to the best meal of your trip and reading more!
