POR river view question

I know the mansions are kind of "u" shaped. Im wondering if they consider the inner rooms facing say, a fountain, with the river in the distance a river view room? Or would it be the rooms that are actually closest to the river?

Yes, they are considered river view. We had a RR on the top floor center ( next to the elevator) of Parterre Place. It had a straight view overlooking the garden, fountain, and river in the distance. My avatar pic is the view a floor down. It was fabulous to see that gorgeous view every time we left the room. Best location IMO.

Per the link previously posted, this is what it has listed:

River View: These rooms offer direct views of the Sassagoula River, including some rooms which overlook the courtyards or lawns in front of the river. They do not guarantee any particular proximity to the main buildings — however at Riverside, all of the directly river-facing rooms do tend to give fairly convenient access to the facilities areas anyway. River View rooms can be located in French Quarter buildings 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7, or at Riverside in Alligator Bayou lodges 14, 27 and 38 plus the mansion buildings. $30 per night surcharge.

So, as PP pointed out those rooms are considered River View rooms.

Just my opinion, but I don't think River View is worth the price at a moderate. Because there isn't a balcony the only time you enjoy the view is leaving your room or returning. Or standing in front of the window. I've had 2 free upgrades to River or lake view(CBR) and while nice, I wouldn't pay for it.
I always book garden view. But that's me.

True that you don't have a balcony to sit out and look out, however we sat on the walkway outside our room in the evenings and were able to enjoy it. I'd rather look out over the gardens, etc... when leaving the room rather than a bunch of trees, walkways, or parking lot.

I tend to agree with Sue M... for the difference in price, especially over a longer stay, it's not worth it IMO. When we stayed in the mansions POR, we were near the elevators so we had a lot of traffic going by our room all the time so we kept the blinds closed most of the time. I suppose we could have put chairs outside our room to enjoy the view, but we would have been in the way and would have had people frequently walking past us. Not something we would have cared for and therefore not worth the money to us. If there was a way to guarantee you'd have a corner or end room so it would be a non-issue, then I'd consider it.
