Just back from my cruise on the Disney Fantasy, it was a blast!!!! I ran the CC5K in 34 mins by myself my husband who is my encouragement and pacer had to stay with my daughter. I couldnt really run on the ship since it was rocking so much Deck 4 was closed and I know I would have fallen off the treadmill...so now back to training!

Training going well here. Did a shorter 3 mile run today with my dh. Had my fastest time yet for a MM. Last week I did the 8 mile Sat, only to come home and find out I was supposed to do 7 miles. That last mile was a killer too, I had wanted to quit so much at 7!

Bought 2 new pairs of shoes and compression sleeves for my shins. Wore one new pair today...it's not as supportive but does have a gel bottom...one foot has been hurting a lot and the gel insole felt great. The second pair is a replacement of my regular Brooks that I wore for the W&D. Those shoes are completely worn out. So $250. later....:rolleyes1 Wait until I tell DH I need a sparkle skirt for the Princess too! Who knew running could be so pricey? I put The Stick on my Amazon Wishlist for Christmas.

For those with pain/injuries, has anyone ever measured their strides per minute? One of the things my PT has identified as an issue for me is that my strides are too long. The annoying part of this is that sometime mid-to-late Summer, I decided to try and purposely lengthen my strides thinking that I could increase the distance covered with the same effort thus being faster. It made sense, in theory. What it did was put unnecessary strain on my body!! So while it may not be the total cause of my IT band pain, the timing coincides with when I started feeling the pain. I feel like an idiot!!

He wants me at about 171-172 strides per minute and apparently there are multiple apps both to count that cadence or to find songs with that same cadence. The other options is to count strides one minute every mile. Ugh!

Psyched to be registering for Everest on Tuesday!! Woo!!

:rotfl2: I am the same way!!! I hate running on a treadmill and am 200% sure I will fall off.

Welcome back and well done!

When it rains, it pours. Or something like that. I'd posted about my infection and dealing with my mom's surgery. Since then I've had to reschedule a final because DS had to be picked up early - he has strep. Then yesterday DH was unexpectedly fired for basically no real reason (stupid at will state ). While he was home with sick kiddo making calls, I went to pick up DD from school and got rear ended in the pick-up line. :( My car is okay, and other than minor whiplash, I'm fine. I'm just over it though, and I could really use a little bit of good luck. I'll take any spare pixie dust you all have to offer. :wizard: We have a tentative plan in place. If it works out, it will probably be better for us. Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do until Mon to get things in motion. Depending on how long it takes to find a job and what the job pays, I'm not sure if I'll make it down for the PHM or not, but I'm going to keep assuming I will.

So sorry to hear all of this. Hang in there and take it one day at a time and if that is too much, take it one moment at a time! :thumbsup2

Help! I have been SO disorganized the past few months (completely unlike me!!!!!) that I have lost all my confirmation #'s and such. I have spent the past hour tracking everything down.

The only thing missing right now is info on our park tix. I am *almost* certain that I purchased them either over the phone or online through RunDisney. Assuming I did, would I have gotten a confirmation e-mail? If so, from where? I can't find anything and its driving me crazy!!!

I checked my emails and my race retreat and race confirmation came from support@active.com. HTH!

Things are looking up a little here. A contact of DH's texted him last night and said he'd heard what happened and offered DH a temp position as a cook in his restaurant and will pay DH only $1/hr less than DH was making as a kitchen manager. It's quite the commute, but it buys us some time.

Our tentative longer term plan is for DH to go the student route as well. As soon as I get my training done, I'll be starting an undergrad research position. I'll be making about 1/2 of what DH was making. DH had been taking 6 hours per semester, but his boss was whining about DH being unavailable 2 mornings per week, so DH agreed to not take classes. Well now that the jerk fired him, I suggested DH going back to school and looking for a lab position too. Our student jobs would cover DH's former income, plus we'd have the excess financial aid and our jobs would likely have the possibility of getting full time hours over the summers. We could carpool, so gas expenses would be almost cut in half, so that's around an extra $50/week. We'd def. come out slightly ahead financially with this plan, plus we'd both be done with school sooner. And this might be my fave part - we'd all be home in the evenings. If the kids had games or performances, we could both be there. We'd have weekends free to do whatever. I'm really hoping this works out for us.

It looks like the PHM should be able to happen still. I've already got the race fee covered and park tickets covered (have an AP). Still need to book airfare and a room.

I'm getting ready to head out for my first post illness run. It's been 3 weeks since I ran, so I'm a little nervous. I'm hoping to get in 3 miles, but I'm going to head to a park with a short-ish loop and just see how it goes.

Exciting! I wish I could do Everest. I'll put that on the "someday" list.

I have been working on my cadence, and it has really improved my speed. For me, it feels like peppy short steps, and when I run with that in mind, I tend to be able to manage the 180 SPM that is my goal. When I'm not paying attention or I'm tired, I tend to me more like 160 or so.

I put a cadence sensor for my garmin on my amazon wish list last year, and my daughter got it for me for my birthday. I wasn't really ready to use it, but as I was training for my 5K this fall, it became pretty useful. If you have an ANT+ device (garmin, etc.) you can get a cadence sensor that will work with it.

Moon, that is so awesome! If you can live on the $ you'll make while going to school, and have more flexibility to boot, it seems like a fantastic plan! I hope it works out--keep us posted! And have a great run today!

As for me, I have been fighting off this stomach bug that is going around here. I'm going to go out for my 7 miles anyway, but if it turns into less than 7, I won't get too upset. I might sneak out with the family for dim sum after church first...I guess my tummy is feeling better. ;)

Anyone have any tips for getting muscle stamina back after illness? I only ended up doing 1 mile today. My legs just felt like jello. :sad1: Otherwise I felt great.

am i reading correctly? they moved the expo to Coronado Springs Resort? How does one get there from AsMo?

Hi Princesses :)

I have been MIA lately so I had a lot to catch up on! I'm sorry to hear about everyones troubles :(. I have some of my own - I have been slacking for a week on running and missed 2 long runs. In the middle of the night a day ago I got a charlie horse in my left calf and it's STILL sore to put weight on or stretch it! I'm getting back out to running today - I have no more excuses! Except for my last final... But I can take a break from studying for an hour :). At least I HOPE I can run for an hour, haha!

Sending well wishes to everyone who is going through a rough patch with whatever it may be - things always start to look up eventually :grouphug:

Whenever I've had to take time off for illness, I have found that if I suffer through a workout or 2 then I'm back on track. I will say that 3 weeks is the longest I've ever taken off. It sucks to feel how difficult it can be even after a relatively short hiatus. Assuming your doctor has cleared you to go back to your regular activity level, just suffer through it and make yourself do it. It's like you gotta wake your muscles up to get back on board. You'll be back in no time!

There will be a bus from the resorts. It probably won't be a 'disney' but, but more likely a Mears bus. It should be clearly marked.

Good to know! Thanks!!!

Ugh, I'm so sorry that the universe keeps throwing all these problems at you. Keep your head up, things will turn around!

ETA: I saw your later post with your update, sounds like you have a great plan that will great for your family in the future. :)

After trying to find a Merida costume for weeks, I switched gears and bought a Mulan costume instead. Yellow running skirt, green shirt and a navy belly band (for early pregnancy, I'm not pregnant but I figured that would be comfortable for a running costume). It looks awesome laid out on the couch, but it's not particularly flattering on.

I've lost 30 lbs this year, but I have another 30 lbs to go and every one of those is accentuated by the yellow running skirt. Kind of discouraging right now, but I'm going to try to use it as motivation to get back on track with my diet.

I took 2 weeks off after my Thanksgiving 10k to rest my foot and hip/iliac crest which were tender. My running partner has a stress fracture in her foot so I'm extra paranoid about that right now. I got my first long run since the break this morning. 6.2 miles and it went pretty well. I was getting worried about being sidelined but I'm feeling more confident that I'll be at the starting line in February!

I just wanted to share here... I ran a 27:01 5k on Saturday! That's 32 seconds faster than my previous PR!! :cool1::cheer2::cool1:

I love how everyone is so creative with putting their costumes together. I want to dress as Alice but am crafty-challenged. I have visions of how to put it together in my head but actually doing it is another story.

Way to go on the weight loss!!

If it only takes me a few workouts to get back in the groove, that would be great! I'm hoping to be back up to my usual 3 mile short runs by the end of this week and start adding long runs again by the end of next week. It was encouraging to see that my pace hadn't taken much of a hit though.

I know the hard-core holiday season is coming, and I've been trying to get my mileage up before it gets here: 8.5 mi last weekend, and 10mi this weekend. Between Christmas and post-New Year's cruise on the Fantasy, I'm not sure I'll get too more long runs between now and then. (I thought I saw someone say they just got back from the Fantasy and it was really rocky--not good for running.... details?)

I had some weird lower back-pain on my rest day, which actually got _better_ when I ran this weekend. I think it's related to weak abdominal muscles, which I generally tense while I run (as it came back later). I guess it's time to start doing some ab-exercises. Any suggestions?
