Downgraded our 5B to a 10A:

May 24, 2014 Fantasy Western

10A 2A2C [5, 1] $3,947.18 10% OBB no insurance or transfers

Just under $1000 less to move across the hall and still be close to our family. Even if we postpone again we'll probably stay at the lower category. It's still more than what we paid for a verandah on the Wonder MR this year. :(

Edited to remove irrelevant information.

Downgraded our 5B to a 10A yesterday (second day public access to rates, third day gold/silver).

You are locked into the prices on opening day no matter which category you switch to, as long as you keep that cruise date. If you decide to move back up and there is a room available it will be for the original rate. :thumbsup2

I'd forgotten about the locked rate, thanks for the reminder. But unless something happens in a drastic manner with our income, going back to a verandah for the Fantasy simply isn't going to happen.

Our August 24, 2013 Eastern cruise, 5 people, cat 4A $7780, same cat, same itinerary, same week 2014 $10,550. Almost $3000 MORE for one year later?? That's a 40% increase! Unbelievable.:eek:

It seems there was a pricing error on the August 23, 2014 cruise. My TA sent out an email about it earlier. I just priced out the 8/23/14 cruise for a party of 5 (2A/3C all aged 10) and the 4A came to $6129.60, a decrease from next year. I hope you see this post. :goodvibes

ETA DCL was alerted that the pricing seemed high and they fixed it.

We downgraded our two cabins for the same sailing (5/24) as well from 6Bs to 8Ds. Will likely turn the two into just one as well to get the price on a reasonable range. Good to know regarding the verandah upgrade later!

Yes! There was a pricing error that had me running scared :scared1:
I should have known the last eastern in august couldn't be more than july

I booked a cat T on 8/23/14 for 2A3C for 11869 which is a heck of a lot better than over 20K and the kids won't have to miss any school.

:goodvibes hooray! Glad you were able to get what you wanted.

I did start a meet thread for our cruise. So far only two of us are on it

It is a better rate but it still is raised much higher than original booking time to move up a category. The cruise I booked last August for this March, if I wanted to move up just one level from a 7a to a 6b would cost 390.00 more but I am sure it would have only been about 50.00 more at time of booking. However to go down a level, the savings is very small.

Did you have a travel agent? Is it possible they were confused? I've moved up and down between categories many times on past cruises and have always been locked into the price for the day I booked on regardless of which category I switch to. The only exception is when they re-categorize staterooms between booking and sailing. Perhaps that is what happened in your situation.

I booked it myself through disney. I even called thinking the price jump was crazy. They said it was correct. If I was to cancel and rebook, the price would be much higher than even the deal they are giving me. By the way, this is a 4 day dream cruise over easter. I think for most people cruise prices just don't go up much anyway so may it goes unnoticed.
