We will be at VWL Dec 22-29th. Has the WiFi improved any in the past month or so? When we were at OKW in late May it worked - but was super slow.

Hoping maybe they fixed it.

Just returned from Boardwalk on Saturday. Wifi was very spotty-best VERY early in the morning but I had better luck with my 3G.:sad2:

I was hoping they had fixed it. Seems like it is still hit or miss. Thanks

I was at SSR from Nov 11-20, and the wifi was terrible in the room. The wifi was slow and froze often, forcing me to to reboot my tablet frequently (every 5-10 minutes or so). This was true in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so I wouldn't blame it on higher demand at specific times of the day.

On my last day I had a few hours to kill before Magical Express, so I was in the main SSR building in the afternoon, and the wifi was actually usable. It was amazing how much better it was (no freezing, I never had to reboot).

Disclaimers:

1 - SSR is huge and very spread out, so I suppose it could have been better in some areas than others. My room was in the Carousel area, far from the main lobby building.

2 - A friend who was with me for 3 days at the beginning of the trip told me she didn't have issues with the wifi, and she was using a laptop.

We were at All Star Music for 2 days and it was really slow, but at OKW now and it hasnt missed a beat

My DH is working on his dissertation and will need to do a bit of work on it during our Christmas trip. Sounds like everything is still really spotty. Glad we will have our old mobile card with us. At least he will be covered with that.

We were at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House, last week and had no issues with connection or speed. Was glad after some of the posts we had seen on the boards.

I'm at Wilderness Lodge now and it's maddening. I've been trying to download a magazine on and off for two days now - still can't get through the process without it freezing, etc. Why offer free wifi if it's going to be so terrible it's almost unusable???

Ugh! That is where we are going to be VWL. DH has been wanting to cancel our mobile card. It is 60.00 a month and we don't use it all that often. However it is truly unlimited - was one of the original cards and we were grandfathered in with the plan. We can't upgrade the card or do anything else with it because Verizon wants to get that unlimited plan away from us. Gonna hold on to it for as long as possible.

Sounds like I will be downloading a bunch of books to my kindle before we leave the house - just in case.

It's really going to vary from time to time and place to place. At VWL, I've also had iffy coverage with ATT, but Verizon was pretty good. You should be fine with your mobile card as a backup. If either of you travel frequently, I would probably keep that card as well---hotel network connectivity is always hit-or-miss, and more frequently miss than hit.

We just got back from OKW last night, and wifi was the best we've experienced at WDW in a long time!:thumbsup2

To be comparable to other hotels/resorts they need to have WiFi available, nothing says it has to work.. I am with you, if it doesn't work then that is the same as not having it. When we had the wired it worked great but WiFi is useless in most cases. I have a feeling Disney went with a company that bidded service with a data cap and they use the poor service as a limiting factor to reduce data usage. Make sure to call and complain.

or... wifi technology is flawed when that many people are using it at the same time. try using wifi at any place with that amount of devices utilizing the service and you will have the same problem. that is why you will read stories about people having no problems with wireless and others with horror stories. wireless didnt just magically stop working for you, more likely the access point you are connected has someone uploading trip photos, watching netflix and skyping with grandma.

At BLT now wifi seems to work just fine :)

Just got back from OKW and it was great.. Best wifi experience yet. Had a couple of playbooks, blackberries, iPads and netbook connected at once (I know... I know...) and all were working flawlessly. Even skyped to family with no issues.

We were at SSR in September and the wireless access was horrible. We were there last week and it was much better - almost to the point off not even noticing any problems. I think that they are still a little shy of having enough capacity, but there was a big improvement over a few months ago.
