Resort Board Community :) .... General Resorts discussion, open to all!! :)

We've arrived on 1/1 several years and always loved it! Last year was awesome because we checked in to the GF and the gingerbread house was still up. :) Then we headed over to MK and got to see the Castle Dream Lights. :cloud9: Really there were tons of Christmas decorations that whole week because it seems they really don't completely end Christmas until the Osborne lights go down. We arrive on January 6th this time, it's the last day of the Osborne so we are excited for that!
We arrived in Orlando on 1/1 a few years back, one night at AS Sports, remember their tree was still up. Moved on over to YC early the next morning and discovered that not only was our room ready but they had bumped us to std view CL for YOAMD! The Carousel at BC and the Christmas village at YC were still up that morning but were disappearing by late that afternoon. We were able to see the gingerbread house at GF last year during our GF stay the weekend of Christmas Parade taping (yes, we were there during the Justin Bieber melee, but he didn't even stay anywhere on site). The hotel was an absolute madhouse, crowds were terrible. I don't think I want to stay there over the holidays again, too much congestion in the lobby, although I love that lobby and the orchestra! I'm amazed at the predicted crowds for this upcoming visit, although why should I be surprised, it was packed at the CR the first week of October and the parks were packed!

It use to be that after January 2nd the crowds died down. But not anymore. People have figured out the January trick, and add that to the increase crowd with the marathons and basically it's like peak season. Honestly I haven't seen a "dead time" at WDW in the last couple of years. My MIL was down there last week which was supposed to be a good time and she said it was packed. I don't even think September is low anymore either due to free dining and other perks. I guess we should be glad everyone in the world is falling in love with WDW. ;)

Good morning everyone! :) OH MAN I wish I could take advantage of that discount! My AP renewal date is 12/29 and I dread forking out the big bucks. :sad2: But I know it will be worth it in the end. We finally wised up and spaced out our AP renewals so that none of us are on the same date. The kids renew in March and DH renews in June so that helps spread out the cost. I'm sure you will like SSR. It is a nice resort. We've only stayed there once, we were back in the Congress Park section overlooking DTD. The only negative thing I remember is that the buses seemed sparse.

AKL CL sounds like the perfect solo trip! :thumbsup2 I think you're going to have an amazing time! I have taken some "sort of" solo trips before, when DH is there but doing other things separate from me, and I've always loved spending time at WDW alone. :cloud9:

How awesome you get to help plan the honeymoon!!! That is my dream!!!!! :goodvibes I just hope I have very understanding daughter in laws. ;) LOL

Yea its a great rate for sure!! After researching SSR I think Congress Park is the section I'm going to request... I figure I can walk to Downtown that way!

Yesterday my husband gave me his vacation dates and I booked another trip for September..right now at AKL, but I'll try to move that one at the 7 month mark to Boardwalk. This will be his first time to Disney so I have to make sure to wow him so he'll want to go back!!

Planning the honeymoon has been a blast and I know for sure they are going to love it!! They have 2 nights at Universal before moving over to AKL CL... then the fun begins!! Lots of tours booked and lots of great places for dinners!!

Love this thread by the way!!

This thread is perfect for me as well. We try to stay at a different resort each trip with 1 exception which you will see below. For my first ever trip to WDW we stayed at CR and my other trip as a kid we stayed offsite. As an adult I have stayed at CBR, GF, and POFQ. Our next trip a year from today we are doing a split stay between WL and CR. We have never done a split stay before.

Well, I hate to be a downer but I just got home from having a major car wreck. :( This lady totally blew off a stop sign and we hit at full speed. :( Luckily I'm OK, just some bruises and my leg is banged up pretty bad. I had X-rays though and nothing is broken. My car is totaled I'm sure. It looked really bad, crumpled like an accordion. But the lady admitted to the police she was to blame, and she does have insurance, so I'm hoping things go smoothly with the claims and things. I'm sure I'll be in much worse pain tomorrow. For some reason my air bags didn't go off?? The firemen and police couldn't believe it. Must have been some kind of glitch?? Thank God my kids weren't in the car with me. I'm glad I'm OK and the other lady was OK too. Luckily she didn't have any passengers because I completely destroyed the passenger side of her car. What a day!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad2: :sad1: :headache:

Thanks everyone :grouphug: I'm OK, just sore and stiff this morning. I couldn't sleep so I made a bunch of ADRs for our trip. Typical obsessed Disney person, right? ;) I booked Teppen Edo, Via Napoli, Sci-fi, Rose & Crown, and we already had BOG, so I just need 2 more. I'm thinking something on the monorail would be good for friday night since we'll be at BLT. Maybe Kona. And then I'm going to add a buffet and/or character meal for our last night at BWI. Maybe Cape May? It's probably too late to get Chef Mickey's. I haven't checked it yet. Another sort of funny Disney moment, right after the wreck a lady stopped to help us and asked if I needed anything out of my car. I told her I had Mickey Mail in the front seat and she looked at me like I was crazy. :lmao: But I needed our ME documents and luggage tags before they towed the car away!! :upsidedow ::yes::

I'm sorry to hear about your car accident. It was strange that your airbags didn't deploy. It is good that you weren't seriously injured. At least you were able to salvage the Mickey mail. :)

Cape May would be a good buffet choice. We always eat there on every trip.

We enjoyed Cape May on our last trip ~ went for dinner. Gross story ~ when I was going through the buffet there was a child up there by himself (around 12). He was dipping his ketchup out and then licked the spoon and put it back in the ketchup on the buffet

Oh, and we loved Kona, too! Had breakfast there.

Hate to say it but we've crossed Kona off out list. Jeff and I had the NY strip, it was burned on the outside and tough for medium rare. No more mashed potatoes as they got rid if the ribeye. They have some scalloped type but nothing like the old 'Ohana scalloped potatoes.

I have seen a lot of gross stuff at the buffets over the years. But the kids do enjoy them. Personally I would never go to one if it were up to me. ;)

That's disappointing. :( We use to eat there all the time. Our last experience about a year ago was bad but I was hoping it was isolated. I swear all the single TS restaurants have gone down the tubes. Back before the dining plan they were all amazing. I guess now its all about being cheap. :(

Preach it! We've seen the same thing. Dumbing down the offerings, doing away with the better cuts of meat. SOA went front their salad with fresh greens and vinegrette to a potato salad and slaw, from ribs to pork loin, changed out the dessert for a mousse. Concourse steakhouse went the way of the wind The last visit we had Cape May and no fried shrimp, the mussels were tiny, and the roast beef was stringy. All that for over $30 a person.

I am so sorry and glad you are ok. You are so lucky she admitted it was her fault. Good luck!

The last couple times I've eaten there it hasn't been very good either. The worst part has always been the service, though.

I've noticed a decline in food everywhere (even the signatures) and it came when the dining plan began being offered to the masses. Back in those days, it was very expensive to get a "Resort Magic Plan" with the dining.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad that you are ok!
