Welcome to :

Rabbit, Hatter & Chessie Go Rogue in Christmasland...

An accounting of our most recent Disney Adventure that took place from Thurday November 29 through Monday December 3

My Disname is PracPerfPatricia ( I fell in love with Mary Poppins all over when it became a musical plus I think the triple Ps give it a nice flow)

I am not practically perfect-far from it ... although I try to sell this rumor to my family-especially my children... in the hope that it will stick...

Hopefully my old Dis friends will be following along & I hope to make some new ones as well...

So that everyone is on the same page... some introductions might be in order

If you've read any of my previous trip reports or in case you haven't guessed- I love Alice in Wonderland- the book, the movie, the characters- both Disneyfied and non Disneyfied versions. I adore Lewis Carroll's use of language, the humor, the cleverness, the absurdity of it all... it very much reminds me of my own life at times (not that I often am witness to hookah smoking caterpillars) but never the less I get the topsy turveyness of it all. So on a whim when I began Dising... to amuse myself (which is a useful talent) I assigned my family members characters that in some way reminded me of each of us...

IMG_0374.jpg

Me Patricia- the Cheshire Cat...mainly due to the smirk... I am often accused of smirking... although I prefer to think of it as just a playful little smile... I am incredibly sentimental but will turn slightly sarcastic to cover it up...I'd like to think that I am kind but I also have very little tolerance for bullies or rudeness. I love the Magic Kingdom deeply and can become teary every time I enter it the first time on a Disney trip. I adore the classic Disney animation of the 30s and 40s and all kinds of Disney History. Since I love to travel and I love most things Disney... a trip to WDW is a perfect cocktail of those two loves. My favorite princesses are Snow White (classic) & I want to live in the dwarves cottage and Merida- Thank goodness we finally have a princess who doesn't own a flat iron to straighten her hair. My favorite ride is the Haunted Mansion. My favorite drink is... well we'll get to that.

IMG_1275.jpg

My Husband Eric- the Mad Hatter ...due to the fact that I sometimes think the rest of our family have driven him mad... He is very fond of Disney and while his affections may not reach the same heights as mine -he is quite happy there... provided we stick to the "PLANS". (He was ecstatic this trip since it was our first trip as DVC owners-we have a very small contract we hope to add to... home base-the Beach Club.) He loves meandering the resort & the whole Boardwalk area. Usually however, He's not happy with random detours or deviating from the schedule... Despite that he is an incredible dad and father and always puts the rest of us before himself. His favorite character is Donald and his favorite park is the Animal Kingdom.

IMG_1137.jpg

My Son David- the White Rabbit ... due to his incredible discomfort/nervousness with being late for things. (also there are eight years difference between him and his older sister-and she always thought the White Rabbit was a really cute character in the parks especially). He is incredibly good natured, wickedly smart and a bit eccentric. He can be a bit forgetful about things he isn't that interested in, although he has a memory like a steel trap for things that he is interested in.... His sense of humor is by turns sophisticated and sarcastic and at other times ridiculously Goofy- (who also happens to be his favorite character) He is 10 and he is an Epcot boy through and through. Space Mountain and the Sum of all Thrills are currently his favorite rides.

IMG_0868.jpg

Not Accompanying us on this trip (for the very first time) my daughter Emily who is 18 - Alice ... basically she just has a certain "Aliceness" about her... This was the very first time that she didn't come with us... She is a High School Senior and felt that with all of her academic and extracurricular demands, she had best sit this trip out... She also is quite smart, very kind and loyal and often funny without intending to be... She is very stubborn and sometimes thinks she knows the best way to "do Disney". This sometimes set her at odds with Hatter... who is also stubborn... Her favorite princess hands down is Belle. She loves Expedition Everest and all things Disney in general.

Well simply not having Alice with us was very different... it changed the group dynamics... (even things like ride seating changes when you are 3 instead of 4) & some of the things we normally do- & I made sure to plan and do some things so it would be a different trip...

The parks were beautifully decorated for the holidays and we enjoyed many holiday favorites. We made sure to see some new things -like the Osbourne Lights at the Studios, ride some new rides (for us) Rock N Roller Coaster, got to check out the newly opened Fantasyland in previews and had lunch at Be Our Guest plus tried out a variety of adult beverages (well Hatter and I at least).

...and while we did miss Alice very much ... we also had a wonderful time... by doing some things differently than usual, changing it up a bit... mixing it up a bit...

SO I hope you will sign on for the adventure... it's become Christmasland at WDW and Chessie, Hatter and Rabbit are going just a bit Rogue...

I am here!

That is a wonderful introduction and I am excited to read about all your adventures! :cool1:

Oh and the thing Eric is holding on the Osborne Lights picture looks suspiciously like a snowman to me... A Mickey version though...

Hello! I'm here and looking forward to you christmassy trip report!

Hello Darling.... I've been MIA... So sorry!! Also sorry I haven't started my TR yet. December is a crazy month with several birthdays, family functions, Christmas, yada, yada that my report has taken a back seat. I also need to find all my notes. :rolleyes1 It's been two weeks and I'm not even completely unpacked.

Any WHO ... I'm excited that you've started yours though. I can't wait to read more. I bet it was PERFECT! :goodvibes

Joining in. I can't wait, we are planning a trip during the same time next year.

I'm here, I'm here, my curly-haired sister! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to follow along with your wonderful Wonderland family.

The Christmas decorations look amazing, I'm so envious. I haven't been to Disney at Chrisymastime since I was a little kid. We're hoping to plan an early-December trip in the next couple of years.

And I also can't wait to hear how your first trip "home" went! popcorn::

The Plane Leaves at 7am... so we have to get up WHEN? Please Sir... May I have some more (coffee)?

Do you know when something seems like an awesome idea at the time you plan it... but that's because it's a while a way and you aren't actually faced with the reality of doing it yet?

Well when Hatter booked our tickets... I was psyched... I mean this was to be a shorter trip 5 day, 4 night trip so leaving PHL X at 7:05 and landing in Orlando by 9:30 -really seemed like a great idea to maximize the time we'd have our first day...

Well it actually was good planning and I'm still really glad that we did it but I have to say upon waking up at 4:30 am Thursday morning ... I wasn't quite feeling the Dis love just yet...

4:30 am ... I usually get up at about 6:30 so you wouldn't think that 2 hours would make that much difference right?

Wrong...so so so wrong... I actually felt like I was having an out of body experience...

What about that great Disney buzz you ask?... Hey you're going to the most magical place right?... well yes and no...yes there was a part of me that acknowledged that but the problem was that I was so excited the night before that I hadn't fallen asleep until 1ish... plus the plan was to get out by 5 and hopefully at that time of day... make it to the airport by 5:30 (and the airport is certainly not the most magical place...)

Which meant... I wasn't supposed to make any coffee at home but wait for it... we were going to grab a quick breakfast at McDonalds on the way... biscuit sandwiches for the boys and oatmeal for me... No coffee when I first wake up is something of a sacrilege to me... I mean I LOVE coffee... not just like or love a little bit but passionately, deeply love it... (When three different family members/friends pick you up cute little coffee thing-a-ma-bobs from Target's $1 section... you know you really have the monkey on your back...)

Pining away for my caffeinated BFF... and feeling a bit lala...I got ready to leave. So after a big kiss and a hug for Alice (this was a HUGE deal-she was staying home without us...but with grandparents 10 minutes away) we went out into what felt like pitch blackness to make our way to the airport...

AS soon as we began to drive I noticed that Hatter's body language was all off... he seemed really tense... really really tense... and he didn't even appreciate any of my attempts at humor...( and really who can't normally appreciate my humor?...). He was really flustered at the drive through at MickeyD
s... I'm not sure he was even speaking English the first time he ordered... and apparently neither was the girl on the other end because she asked him to repeat his order...

IMG_0651.jpg

David on the other hand, while bleary eyed was pretty much the trooper in the back seat...

IMG_0646.jpg

Along with my oatmeal I did get a McD's coffee but it was so blasted hot... like rays of sun hot...I'm not sure how they get it that hot...so even I couldn't drink it for at least 15 minutes... and I in the mean time I discovered exactly what was wrong with my husband...

Me: (having forgotten...it being so early) "Honey, what time does the plane take off?"

He: "At 7."

Me: (realizing something) "Ummm what time does that mean it boards?"

He: "At 6:30."

Me... "Ohhhhhhh." (looking at the clock on the dash which now read 5:15-hmmm thinking hmmm that means we have to get to the airport, leave the car, curbcheck, go through security and get to the gate...) I now knew exactly what was wrong... we were cutting our time pretty tight... one wrong move... no plane for us...

Me... "Shouldn't we have..."

He... "Yes." Alrightly then... he obviously didn't want to talk about it... but he drove, drove, drove....and the car shuttle service got us to curb check in by 6... and we got through security pretty quickly... were at the gate by 6:20 -I even had time to get a really awesome cup of coffee that wasn't super naturally hot...

IMG_0663.jpg

So actually we should have probably even been up a bit early and left earlier for this flight... but everything ended well so it's all good...

IMG_0661.jpg

We flew Southwest and were A boarding so we got seats all together... and David had his small DVD player, Eric choose to sleep a bit...and I watched some Downton Abbey on my ipad... 2 episodes and beverage service and we were actually arriving about early.

IMG_0674.jpg

Landing in Orlando is so exciting because you know you are so CLOSE... and Magic Express is so MAGICAL because you just the pixie dust collects your luggage and gets it to the hotel...

Owwww.... a Starbucks... can't pass that up... have only had one real cup so far and it's almost 9:30...

IMG_0680.jpg

IMG_0679.jpg

WE always get so psyched when we see this "mini monorail" ... it's like you know that you're almost there...

IMG_0687.jpg

Will we get a real Magic Express? Please, Please, Please... and Score! ....

IMG_0688.jpg

Our bus would be stopping at Old Key West, the Boardwalk, THE BEACH CLUB & then the Yacht Club...

100_0557.jpg

I really love the TV screens...and the movie but I'm kind of hoping maybe they could mix it up a bit and give us a new show?

100_0558.jpg

Oh wow... we're getting closer...

100_0564.jpg

and closer...

100_0569.jpg

We're pulling in...

Welcome Home...to the Beach Club...

100_0571.jpg

This was to be our first trip as DVC Members & that was quite an amazing thing-in keeping with trying to do some new things...& this was DEFINITELY a new thing...( We purchased a small resale contract this past sumemr and are hoping to add 25-30 points a year over the next 3+ years or so...)

Happily and sufficiently caffeinated... I was now plenty awake... and Hatter was (although he might not admit it) quite excited for his first WELCOME HOME as a DVC member...

WE'RE HERE....

A very nice CM met us coming off the bus and asked if we were checking in... and escorted us to the check in... this was nice but simultaneously a little over the top... I could have handled the distance from the front door to check in without getting lost...

BUT upon check in, we got our (WAIT FOR IT) very first

WELCOME HOME...

(why thank you-may I stay forever please...)

after the first minute of greetings and happiness... I took David over and around to see the fab lobby... I really like the Beach Club lobby... it smells really good-especially right now with the gingerbread carousel and it is warm and elegant without being stuffy. (I've made up a story in my head that the people who live in the Grand Floridian vacation in the more relaxed Beach Club...)

While our room wasn't ready... being only 10:30... we left our carry ons with the Front Desk and decided we would head out and over to what I thought would make a fun, easy and accessible first day... World Showcase at Epcot... through our own special entrance...
