Hi, we are 11 days out and have yet to book our flight!! We we be flying Delta, bc DH has sky miles.
Does Delta lower its prices closer to the date of flight or should I go ahead and book? It will be 516 flying from San Antonio
Also, when will it be too late to use ME?

The pricing all depends on seat availability. Few seats left = higher prices. Many seats left = lower prices.

I would have had tickets booked a LONG time ago, so if I were you I'd buy now assuming I could afford them. If not, I'd be looking at other airlines/checking Delta HOURLY and start mentally preparing for the drive.

ETA: I wouldn't be surprised you can't find 5 seats together (that's assuming your little one will be a lapchild). I'd start working with your 8yo that they may need to sit away from you. You'd probably be able to get two together, maybe 2x2.

We had to change our trip at the last minute. We can afford it, just hoping the prices might drop. Oh well.

We fly delta quite frequently and i've noticed that generally they do not tend to drop their prices because their flights usually book very quickly. If you can afford it I'd go ahead and book because there might night be many seats left.

True! We ran into this just last month. My husband and I planned a WDW trip for my birthday and our anniversary for Oct 27th-Nov 4th. We paid $198.00 r/t for our tickets this past July. A little over a week before the trip, my mom (who lives with me) started having alot of trouble with her blood sugars. They went completely haywire for no reason (bottoming out, then going sky high). The Monday before we left we knew either she had to go with us, so I could keep an eye on her, or else we were going to have to cancel the trip. I went online early that morning. The same ticket me and my husband paid $198.00 for in July, I had to pay $777.70 for my mom. I have never paid that much for an airline ticket, but because it was just a week out, I didn't have a choice. It was cheaper to pay the $777.70 than to cancel the trip. (What's funny, is once we got down there, my mom didn't have a minute's trouble with her blood sugar.)

Generally speaking, and this is true most of the time for all airlines, within 14 days the ticket is considered a "walk up" and pricess are significantly higher than with an advanced purchase. This isn't to say that this is true 100% of the time but as a general rule this is the case.

Booking a "long time ago" does not necessarily equate to lower fares. For example, if I were flying on the first week of April, I would expect higher fares due to that week being spring break. Delta Air Lines may try to upgrade aircraft types due to the increase in travel (e.g. a flight operated by a Boeing 737-800 will be upgraded to a Boeing 757-200) but that is not necessarily all the time true.
