POP Century~Unofficially the Grooviest FAQ Thread #7~Sept 2012

We've requested a king bed room at POP and would *really* like to get one as it is our only request. The confirmation email says 3pm is check in time, but can we show up earlier (as early as 10am) to try and snatch up one of the kings before everyone else gets there? I know it's unlikely that the room will be ready at that time; I'm just looking to "lock in" a king for our stay. We've got a room only reservation and it's our first time onsite.

Certainly you can arrive as early as you wish...either your room will be ready at that time, or you can get your room assignment and they will notify you when the room is ready later on while you visit a park. Whether that will help with a king bed room I cannot say, but I don't think it's a bad idea.

Okay. You are not nuts . I just checked the clock again and looked at the other side. On the right side of the clock are the volume controls, tuner, and mp3 plug. On the left side is the alarm setting and WHITE NOISE MACHINE function. You can listen to wind chime, ocean, and brook. I turned it on and the sound of the ocean is drowning out the sounds of the screaming kids in the pool

Nice to know my friends isn't losing it! Thanks for giving me the update. She's going to bring a sound machine just in case all the clocks aren't the same. We'll know in 5 days :cool1:

Is there enough room for 2 night stands in the 2 double bed rooms?:)

Just wondering if you could request 2 in the rooms for medical devises. :flower3:

Thanks! I was originally planning on a LM room at AOA but i waited to long to click submit and there were no rooms left. So POP was the only standard room value left.

I stayed at AoA and would choose Pop over LM at AoA for sure! The walk to LM is soooooo long! You're gonna love Pop and when you cross the bridge to visit AoA, you will see what I mean. :)

Checked in last night. The pop Warner overflow is here. I thought they didn't use pop? Oh well,
HOpefully it won't be too bad.

How have they been? They've never used Pop before as overflow as far as I know.

I'm looking at possibly doing a quick 2 day trip for the opening of new Fantasyland (and pick up the new pins. LOL) and was going to stay at Pop since I need it to be as inexpensive as I can get it yet still be onsite.

But if Pop Warner is there and being loud - maybe that isn't the resort for me. I need my sleep or else I turn into Maleficient.

We are back from our stay at POP! Thanks again everyone for this wonderful thread. It is so helpful!

A while after arriving in our first floor room, we took off our shoes only to discover soggy wet carpet on one side of the room towards the bathroom as well as on the bathroom floor. We found wet drywall as well. Apparently a pipe had broken. Luckily we only had a small backpack on the floor that was soaked on the bottom. Maintenance took care of it right away and POP switched our rooms promptly. I'm grateful this happened on the first floor and didn't trickle down to other rooms from an upper floor! Other than that little hiccup, I enjoyed my stay at POP (dh is not a fan though, not sure what's wrong with him :rotfl2:).

The Pop Warner groups were a little loud in the pool area one night until about 11pm at night (where I was at anyway) and then all was quiet. The groups in my area seemed to be younger children (I'd say an average age of 10 maybe ?). They had a special counter set up for them the first day I saw them there just past the concierge by Everything POP and the second day they had a table set up across the way with times and other information. I don't know that I would've noticed them that much if it weren't for the signs/info table and sports/cheer shirts (and the pool noise the one night). They were pretty quiet and behaved well in my experience. A few dance families left on the ME when we did.

There was a woman celebrating her 100th Birthday at WDW. We saw her at POP and at MK. People were wishing her a Happy Birthday everywhere she went and a teen choir group sang to her. She said that she was enjoying her special stay at POP. Way to go POP pixiedust:

Did you book a standard or preferred room? The key will be whether there is one that is unoccupied or due to be vacated on your check in day. If you booked a standard room then IMO your chances are consiberably better as there are a little over 3 times as many king rooms that are categorized as Standard versus preferred. There are less than 10 King non handicapped rooms in the preferred category so the odds with a resort of that size can be against you based on occupancy level and the other number of people who have made the same request in the preferred category. Did that make sense or did I just totally confuse you? LOL

Ok so I know that the 4th floor king rooms are handicap accessible only I have a request in for 50's or 60's and king bed(ill take a handicap room to get 4th floor)
But I want the 4th floor and I don't like the idea of taking a king room on 4th floor if someone needs the handicap accessible room

If I call and make a request for 50's or 60's king bed not handicap accessible or 50's/60's double 4th floor if king is n/a. will this work? Are there many people who need handicap rooms with king beds or is a king the only option for handicap rooms always gone with family of 5 so I've never had to "research" this
I would just feel horrible if I "took" someone else's magic away like that... Does disney give priority to medical needs so they would get it before me

Sorry for rambling I'm just so confused:confused3

Ill be there the end of Jan for a solo trip

Hi. We are here now and got back to the room temp at 75. We tried holding the power button and down arrow to try and override but it didn't work. Any suggestions as we have also been hot at night. Thanks!

Hey Janet B, just an FYI; the mug price in post #3 is still shown as $14.99 plus tax, the new price is $15.49 plus tax. :)

I'm sure you already knew that but just haven't updated the info yet.

:welcome: to the DIS and the POP Century thread!! :hippie: Many, many great POPers here, who are very knowlegeable about POP and Disney in general... so when you are ready, we'll be here to help! :goodvibes

BTW, we were there in August as well and booked the BB ... but not sure if we can take advantage of it.. yet). :)

Thank you so much for the welcome, Janet B!!! I hope you are able to take advantage of the free dining BB!

I am hoping someone can help us with a room request. The past few years we have always booked a first floor preferred to be close to Classic Hall. I have mobility problems so the closer we are the better. Last year was my first time renting an ECV and without that our vacation would not have been possible. Anyway, now that i use the ECV while at Disney I was thinking of not requesting a preferred room. I would still want to be close to Classic Hall so my husband wouldn't have such a tough time carrying our soon to be 5 year old back to the room after a long day in the parks.:) What would be a good room request to make? Which building? Maybe with a lake view or a chance to see the fireworks from Epcot? Also, would an upper level floor room be poosible with an ECV?
TIA for the info!:flower:

You made perfect sense! We booked a standard room. We'll just wake up and head over to POP before doing anything else and see if lady luck is on our side.

Thanks Janet B. One of the three reservations will be arriving a little later, so I will take your advice and do a traditional check in. I sort of thought that might be best, but its always nice to get others with more experience to give their recommendations. Thanks again. PS: This will be our first visit to Pop, first time during Christmas season and our 3 yo grandson and DIL's first ever Disney visit.

You are very welcome!! :goodvibes And don't forgot those first time buttons for your grandsona and DIL! have it noted on your ressie and ask at check in if the CM does not give you the buttons. Pop is decorated very nicely at the holidays, enjoy!!

I'll take some pictures and post them when we return from our trip. I can't figure our how to post pics from the app.

thanks for the info on the white noise machine. :goodvibes Happy it helped to counter the very excitable kids! :upsidedow

Looking forward to your pix!

In 33 days, we will be at Pop for the first time and for our first on-site visit! So excited for this infamous tie-dye cheesecake!:cheer2:

:cool1: It's to die for...::rotfl2:

Thanks stitchlovestink on your helpful info regarding king rooms. :goodvibes

I'm sure you already knew that but just haven't updated the info yet.

Thank you for the reminder! :thumbsup2 I will change it right away. I'm grateful to all who read the thread and lets me know of things that need changing/updating. :goodvibes

I should have booked my room yesterday.

Now the system is down until sometime tomorrow and I arrive on Wednesday for a fast last minute trip. Ooops.

I'm looking forward to staying at Pop again providing there will still be rooms available when their system is back up.

We just got back from an 8 day stay there. We usually love it there, but had a small ( let me stress small) problem with the pools all being freezing! I mean freezing! The weather was nice while we were there, and last year the pools there were warm. I didn't say anything to management because I wasn't sure they were "supposed" to be heated, but the resort description says they are. Anyway, being from the very cold north we were looking forward to some swimming, but it was impossible, even too cold for the kids. Does anyone know if that's normal for the pools there?

It is NOT normal; the pools are usually nicely heated. Were all three pools cold? It was reported in some earlier posts that the Hippy Dippy pool heater wasn't working, but that the Bowling Pin and Computer polls were okay. Swimming at the resort pools is a big deal for my family, too, so I can understand your disappointment. They really need to get that fixed!

We swam around lunchtime this past Saturday (12/1.) We had walked over to AOA in the morning when the sun was blazing and it was really warm, so we decided to sneak in a swim before we went to spend the rest of the day at AK. By the time we got back to POP, it was starting to cloud but was still warm. We walked over to the Hippy Dippy Pool and talked to the life guard, mentioning we heard that the pool heater might not be working, and should we swim in the computer pool. He winked at us and told us we might be more comfy in the computer pool. We did swim in the computer pool for about an hour and found it to be fine for swimming. There were a bunch of kids swimming when we were.

There were kids also swimming in the computer pool until midnight each night.

We just got back on Sunday and the Bowling Pin pool was heated when we were there. My family used it twice and on the days we didn't we could see steam rising off of it when heading back to our room. The Hippy Dippy was not heated and the front desk said that there should've been a note on the reservation website that it would not be during our stay (??).
