Family of the Day

Does anyone know how and when they pick the family of the day
for each cruise ? just wondering.

My Family was luckily chosen to be family of the day and it was very special. We had no clue. We arrived around noon and just did the normal check in and a lady walked through a door in the back and asked us if we would like to be family of the day :-) I wish I knew why we were chosen, because I was grumpy from a 6 hour drive that morning lol.

What happens if you are chosen?

We had a very nice lady walk us through security ( we still had to go through the procedure). She walked us to the kids club line and we got to cut the line to schedule whatever we wanted for the little one . Then she walked us to see Mickey and again we got to cut the line. After wards she had us sit next to the doors that let you onto the ship, announced our names and we were the first ones onboard. So pretty much we had VIP treatment in the waiting area :-)

One CM is randomly chosen each boarding day to select the "Family of the Day" from among those who check in at his/her desk or otherwise interact with him/her. The CM will take the family aside and explain the process. It doesn't hurt to have cute kids, dress alike, or whatever. It is any family who strikes the CM as the "right" family.

We were family of the day on our Med cruise in 2011 out of Barcelona. I think the CM tasked with picking just scanned the crowd waiting there and picked whichever family they wanted.

It was a little disorganized (we were one of the first cruises out of BCN that year) and they almost forgot to announce us before regular boarding began. We were excited to be the first family on board and announced onto the ship. We also received a certificate.

Really just luck of the draw, the right place at the right time. :cool1: Oh, and I think my kids are cute but no matching clothes. Now that I think of it DD (5) had a Spanish Flamenco style dress with red and black dotted shoes so she was adorable.

It's really just who the CM feels is right... But I can tell you when I was a CM, I always went for the families who were polite. I also would pick people who had been nice to me previously in the day. If I was picking a group for a Magical Moment and a family passed that had a kind word for me earlier on, I'd chase them down to catch them. So keep in mind, it never hurts to be friendly to the CMs... ask them how their day is going, ask them about their job, compliment them! It could go a long way!

So it is profiling. DCL better be careful. :scratchin
:goodvibes

They have nothing to worry about. On one of our cruises the family of the day looked like the rolled out of bed, didn't wear anything Disney, and then complained that they had to take pictures with characters, be announced, etc. I tried to congratulate them and they said they were annoyed that they were chosen. It seemed like a "Magical Moment" was wasted. Not that I am saying we should have been chosen, but there were so many families who put in so much effort into matching outfits, etc. that in my opinion were more deserving.
