Adults only areas on Disney Fantasy (pools ect)

On a 5-night cruise out of NYC on the Magic, a couple brought both of their school-aged children into the Cove cafe. The dad seemed to be making some kind of point (he loudly proclaimed "Ok, let's go kids" after they had finished their snacks. No one said a word to him or his wife while I was there, but I don't know if anyone had said anything before I got there. I just chuckled to myself, as I imagined a scene about 5 years in the future, when these parents are having trouble garnering respect from their teenagers, but they snootily retort to them, "Well, why should we follow your rules, when you don't follow any?" Sometimes, Karma takes too long.....

We usually use the stairs, but I thought that the forward elevators go to deck 13 and then you are in a little alcove then you can exit onto the deck from there, go past the concierge sundeck and you are in the falls.

we must have missed that. oh well ... stairs are a good workout!

If I were there, and the bartender asked them to leave, I would happily give them the offenders lost tip! I have a feeling every other family in there who were following the rules would pony up a dollar and more than make up for it.

That's a good idea. I have reported such problems to the appropriate officers. Talking to the CD is a good way to go.

I have seen the bar tender get kids out of the pool. And, on the new ships, there is nothing served by bringing kids into the Cove Cafe area; the Vista Cafe has exactly the same snacks, coffees, etc. and is a family area.

Heck, Malabrigo felts if you look at it funny. Definitely wont be bringing single ply. STR should behave.

I guess it amazes me sometimes. This is a DISNEY cruise folks. You want adults only then maybe you should try another one.

Hubby and I are planning our 4th Disney cruise. We don't have or want children, but we love Disney! Just because Disney is great at catering to Families does not mean that it's only people with kids who like Disney. And even those who do, still deserve a kid free Disney space!

I'm not Plaid Princess, but, here's my take:

The MDRs will have children in them. In all 6 of our cruise with DCL, I think there's only been one child that I wished wasn't in the room. And I really put that on his parents, as it was obvious to everyone around them that he was tired and really needed to be in bed, not made to sit at the table.

It's reported that the late seating has fewer children at it, but we've only done late seating once and that particular cruise didn't have a lot of kids on it anyway, so I didn't really notice any difference.

I am not Plaid Princess either but I will also note Disney tries to pair like groups of people together no kids with no kids. For instance it was me and my husband last year and we where paired with another couple celebrating their honeymoon. And we were celebrating our anniversary. There was also suppose to be one other couple but I do not think they ever showed up for any of the five dinners. We had second dinner setting and noticed a few kids in the dining room. No issues. Oh and if you have breakfast/lunch in the a la cart restaurant you will be seated by yourself. Same with buffets but more chaotic.

But also find out tastes to be those of wanting to be at the Boardwalk Hotel not All Star. How is something like Animators Palate for dinner? I would imagine that type of dinner with the great special effects would bring out a lot more cheering from the kids. Don't get me wrong I also want to go there but trying to understand what to expect. If you are a couple do you get put with other couples at dinner?

On our first cruise (just DH & I) we were seated at an 8 top with 3 other couples. And I will say, we couldn't have selected better dining companions if we had held interview for the position!

2d cruise - Just DH & I again, we were seated at an 8 top with 2 other couples and a mother/daughter (adult) combo.

3d cruise - DH & I, linked with one of the couples from first cruise and requested a 6 top. The two people who we were supposed to be seated with, a single lady who requested to move to late seating to be with friends, and a single gentleman who ate every meal in the buffet except the last breakfast (and that's the first time we met him. So we had 4 of us at a 6 top.

4th cruise - DH, me, DS23, DD24 & DDs BF, we were seated at a 6 top (just us).

5th cruise - DH, me, DS18 seated at an 8 top with a lady and her DS17, DD 15, DD22 & her DS2.

6th cruise - again had a 6 top with DH, me, DHs mom & her husband, DHs sister & her husband.

DCL does its best to seat similar groups together. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

I find meeting new people fun, and leads to interesting conversions as, generally, everyone at the table will not be doing the same things while on the cruise.

We always pick the second seating. Most families with young kids go for the first seating, so they can get to bed on schedule. Also, that means fewer kids in your show seating as well. I've (knock on wood) never had trouble with kids being disruptive at dinner. I think it's a combo of parents recognizing that they're in a "nice" restaurant and managing their kids accordingly, and the fact that Disney won't seat adults traveling alone with a family unless you request it. So if you're traveling without others you know, you'll be seated with people of similar age and background. We've loved all our table-mates, and a few of them even came to our wedding.

We were bothered by kids more on our last Carnival cruise than all of our combined DCL cruises.

DCL does a great job of keeping the young busy and happy. We have to make our kids show up to dinner otherwise, it would be a vacation without them.

There is a lot less melt downs from kids than at WDW because it easier for parents to go back to a stateroom if they need a nap, there is less walking and they do not have the Florida sun on them every minute.

You are going to see other adults having fun in the dining rooms also -- with or without kids. Even when our kids are at a seperate table with their friends, the adults at our table still wave our napkins in the air during the festivities during dinner. Most people enjoyed watching their drawings appear during the animation show. Honestly, the MDRs are loud to begin with. When you put that many people in one area for two hours there is going to be noise.
