Antique Cars/Trucks on Mainstreet

When we were at the Magic Kingdom in September, we saw several families riding around in the antique cars down and around Mainstreet. It looked like the cars came from the Fire Station in the corner.

Does anyone know how we can ride on one of these cars? Is it something we can schedule ahead of time or pay extra for?

I would assume you just ask. It's definitely not something you schedule or pay extra for.

During non busy times they run the cars, double decker bus, and horse drawn trolley. The morning hours are the best time to catch a ride. There's a stop right in front of the train station and also one in front of the castle. It's free, and first come/first served. We were lucky enough to ride the trolley during their Leap Day 24 hr thing. Be aware though that the ride is only one way (from train station to castle, OR castle to train station) then you must get off and stand in line again if you want to ride back to where you started.

There was one morning the wife and I got the bus, just the two of us and the barbershop quartet got on and sang as we are heading towards the castle. It was quite a moment going down main street first seat, on the top of the bus. You could just see people looking at us wondering if we where somebody important to get the whole bus to ourselves!

The upstairs on the double decker bus is pretty neat, a different perspective of Main Street from up there.

1) Based upon crowds, vehicles start at park-opening thru 1:00pm.
. . . might be stopped early for large crowds
. . . horse-drawn vehicles can be stopped for excessive heat/humidity
2) Pick-Up Points
. . . One-way trips pick up at the transportation stops in Town Square
. . . at the central Plaza in front of Cinderella Castle (excluding parade times)
. . . approx. 2½ minute ride each way
3) Vehicles
. . . Horse-Drawn Street Car, an old-fashioned trolley pulled by a horse
. . . Jitney, an early automobile without a roof
. . . Fire Engine, a replica of the very first fire trucks
. . . Omnibus, a gas-powered, open-air 2-story bus

NOTE: Due to liability of the stairs, the double-decker bus has been stopped.

For the horse-drawn trolley, you can ask to sit up front with the driver. There is room for two adults. It's fun being right behind that big horse.

My wife and I did that one morning.

I don't know what they were feeding that horse but it reminded me of Kramer driving that horse drawn carriage in Seinfeld when the horse was having severe pungent farting problems.

It was enough to gag a maggot.

My family has spent quite a bit of time at WDW since 2004, but we have never seen these vehicles in action. I am adding this to my to do list.

Is it possible i remember riding these in 70's as youngster? I have a vague recollection of riding up and down Main Street on something in 1977.
