Calm down, Frog. Yes, says me. And many of the people at ESPN, as well. In any case, it is quite likely that A&M will be facing a Big XII team this year as it looks like we will be going to Cotton. My guess is Cotton, unless K-State really opens a can on them. You will likely be heading to Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl to face Michigan State. That will be quite the good game and I do wish you the best of luck.

I'm not sure about your Bama-LSU comment earlier. Who cares that "Bama should have lost to LSU"? We can talk about the touchdown that Stanford scored in overtime against Notre Dame that was denied them. Then there was the 12 men on the field when Pitt missed their game winning field goal that would have given them a first down in overtime after Notre Dame had turned the ball over in overtime. Saying that one team shouldn't be there because they should have lost another game will not end well for the Irish.

Take a look at the BCS. The SEC has beaten up on each other. Bama's only loss was in conference to a top 10 team. Georgia's only loss was in conference to a top 10 team. LSU's only losses were in conference to 2 top 10 teams. Florida's only loss is in conference to a top 10 team. Texas A&M's only losses were in conference to 2 top 10 teams. The SEC is damn good and has some of the best teams in the nation. Those teams have done a lot to prepare Bama or Georgia for what they will be facing in the MNC.

Once again, I mixed up up with another poster. Nope, you are not headed to Buffalo Wild Wings unless you decide to stop off there for dinner on your way to the game.


And again, I do like Notre Dame. I've always liked Notre Dame. I cheer them on when they play. I like that they stand by their Catholic principles. I like their traditions. I like it when they win. I do not, though, think that they will win the National Championship this year just because I think that both Georgia and Bama are better.

I live in South Bend, and am not a Notre Dame fan. There are a few nice young men on the team, but there are also a lot of disgusting ones as well. (My friends and I have had social interactions, see them out etc).

I don't think you can say they are morally any better than any other team in the country.
But I must say, I am glad Charlie the head coach has been gone!

Also part of the reason for the dislike, is they get all the attention in town, and local sports fall behind. They don't really help the economy either.

SEC teams would make up the top 10 of the BCS poll if it wasn't for the fact we take each other out. Six out of 10 isn't bad though. It is the strongest conference. Even the worst SEC teams could beat up on the better teams in other conferences. Well maybe not Auburn.

As a true and die-hard Notre Dame fan, the haters get to me too. I live in SEC country and its irritating as fire. It's all based in jealousy. I've come to terms with that. Many will come back and fight that notion, but its the truth.

All I can say is that not only are we #1 for football, but also for NCAA graduation rates for student athletes.

It's called a self perpetuating cycle. They win and so the hype continues to build that they are the best. The problem is that these guys don't play anyone during the first 3 games of the year, they schedule cupcakes. I think the hardest game scheduled was Alabama scheduling Michigan. I would like to start seeing these teams (Alabama, Florida, and LSU) start scheduling some really difficult competition to start the year. Let's put Bama vs. Oregon, Florida vs. Stanford, and LSU vs. Ohio State, and Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma. Then let's see how mighty the SEC is.

Of course, I live in Texas and the longhorns will tell it a bit differently. You see, they are convinced that had Colt McCoy not gotten injured, they would have easily beaten Alabama in 2009.

I do not believe that either. There are many people employed as a result of the University. Look at how nice Eddy street is now and the people employed as a result. It would not draw near as many people if it was not for ND. The increase in tourism, hotel room occupancies, and restaurant reservations are a direct result of ND.

I also dislike the haters. I usually think, at least from the people I know, that the haters are the people who couldn't get in.

Who cares what it was or has been? It is what is now. ??? But, ND has an amazing history...that gets under people's skin and it passes to the next generations. I'm personally proud to be a true part of it. It really is a magical and beautiful place (not unlike Disney). For those of us who are a part, it is a chance for us to experience our hallowed past.

I don't hate because I didn't get in. My dad's half of the family is actually ND fans, and my uncle graduated from there, my aunt graduated from St. Marys, and my father went to Holy Cross.

The only area of the economy they help is the Eddy street development and tourism. When it's not ND football season, those businesses struggle.

Heck, I work in retail and we never have business during game times when we would otherwise be packed!
Also, you see them on the cover of the sports section, on the sports radio channel when they could be talking about High School Sports or other area colleges (those do exist as well).

Same fate as any other major college town - that is, a small town with no major industry otherwise. ND is the draw to South Bend. There was no Eddy Commons when I was there. The University Park mall was basic. It's only the last decade that money was sunk into the community trying to make it even more of an attraction. I guarantee Eddy Street merchants make up for lackluster January weekends with September home football weekends. Their sales are truly unique. When the businesses start there, there have to be forecasts done to accommodate for the ups and downs. That's business.

We stayedmon the south side of town when we were there for Pitt and I was impressed by the expansion. South Bend is obviously growing outside of the University.

With all due respect, what else is there to "see" in South Bend other than ND? We have been going to SB for years because my daughter Irish dances and we have friends there. Other than the University, there is not much to do. Just my opinion. My child attends the University and Eddy street is nice. Much nicer, again in my opinion, then the area close to the Convention center that has the restaurants that close down early.

There are many colleges that come to compete against ND and they stay at the hotels. Football weekends there is the three night minimum stay and they really jack up the price. Again, that is bringing in a whole lot of money. I just do not believe that the economy is not better due to ND. There are always bus loads of people going there and spending money.

Maybe you don't hate because of not getting in there, but I can tell you from personal experience, there are many who do just for that reason.

There is quite a bit to do here. There are other quite large universities. Bethel and IUSB.
If you stayed on the South Side, I assume you were at the new Comfort Suites. I live over in that area. That was actually home to the first mall before UP. (its now a strip center)

South Bend was actually built around the Studebaker, not Notre Dame.
It has been a dying town, I cannot deny that, but it's rebirth isn't all due to Notre Dame. It isn't even really a typical college town. My sister attended Purdue and that was better, but I can agree Eddy Street Commons is helping.

I guess unless you live here its hard to describe. We have just as much to do as any typical town. We have a minor league baseball team thats ballpark just got a 10 million dollar renovation. There is ice skating, we are close to the beach and Casino.

But I am happy to see the team do well, its just overrated at times and gets shoved in your face at times. Heck when the Colts won the super bowl it didn't get nearly as much attention as the Irish having a bad season. Same when the Super Bowl was in Indy!

This SEC fan sees nothing at all to be jealous of. I appreciate Notre Dame's strong history but I am proud of my conference. Honestly, jealousy? Not here.

I'm not a Notre Dame fan (don't like them, don't dislike them, consider them to be a well-run university), but to say they don't help the local economy isn't accurate. The University's operating budget exceeds $1.2 billion dollars, most of which goes to the salaries of its employees, and most of those employees put their salaries back into the local economy. Then you add the students who eat in local restaurants and shop in local stores, parents who do the same, prospective students who do the same, tourists who come to the games (not just football) or to just pay homage to the University and I'd bet that the impact on the local economy is in excess of $2 billion. If Notre Dame disappeared, South Bend would wither and die very quickly, becoming nothing more than a stop on the Indiana Turnpike.

By the way, the same goes for most large Universities, including the public ones and the top privates. They are major forces in their local economies!
