Dixons go Deluxe 14 nights DxDDP Updated 12/2 COMPLETE

Great reviews and pictures. Your daughter is adorable in her "Disney" outfits. Thanks for posting on the baked potato as a snack - I didn't realize they had that.

Great reviews! I'm excited to try Yachtsman Steakhouse for the first time in January.

Another great day for eating!! I love the jacket potatoes at MK - I think they make a cheap snack - something hard to find in WDW :)

Thanks for reading. Was my first time having one in MK but definitely made a good snack lunch.

Thank you. DD took alot of outfits with her - she enjoys dressing up. They also had baked sweet potaotoes at the same place for a snack credit.

This was our second time here. DH and DD really enjoy it here. To me the food is ok – would prefer more choice. I do like not having to get up to the buffet though, makes it a very relaxing meal.

Our adr was for 7.30am opening. We checked in and were given a lei each. They take your photo – this was again free for us as we had photopass+. The servers sing a little welcome song as the restaurant opens then we were seated straightaway.

We actually had the same table as last year by the window.

We had coffee and the mixed fruit juice to drink. DD had chocolate milk.

We had a platter with pineapple and raisin bread and a plate of lovely fresh fruit. Then a platter to share with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, Mickey waffles, and potatoes.

DH got into the spirit and wore his Hawaiian Mickey shirt.

We met Stitch, Lilo, Mickey and Pluto. DD also did a parade around the restaurant with the characters.

We did have charging on our KTTWcard. Later in the trip I noticed we had too many credits left and checked with concierge at our resort. The server had accidently charged it to the room not credits. This was easily sorted by concierge and we were deducted 3 credits instead.

We also parked at the Polynesian and got the monorail to MK after breakfast. We told security and they were fine – it wasn’t busy and we had our resort parking pass in the car so they knew we weren’t trying to avoid parking charges at MK.

Snack

DH got a coffee float, which he rated as excellent, from sunshine tree terrace at MK for 1 snack credit.

This was our second time eating here. We had a 12 noon adr.

The server explained the milkshakes had to count as your dessert they weren’t a drink on the dining plan. I had loved the milkshake last time so got a strawberry one.

We all also had coke to drink.

We started with the loaded baked potato soup each which was very good and DD had apple slices.

DH then had a Reuben with fries and I had the club with fries. DD had a mickey sandwich – she asked for ham on white bread and they could do that. The fries are very good here – like English chips.

Whilst we were eating one of the main street characters – the music teacher, I forget her name – popped in to say hello to everyone.

This was our first time here. We had a 7.20pm adr and were hoping to watch 9.30pm hallowishes from the deck outside the restaurant.

We parked in the self parking which is across the street at the Grand Floridian. You do need to factor this time in if you are coming by car.

We were seated straightaway and DD was made to feel very welcome. There were a few children in aswell.

The bread and sea salt was good.

I had a Caesar salad (on menu as hearts of romaine) which was very nice but I preferred the Yachtsmans. DH had the cheese plate and enjoyed this – they gave him a card explaining each one. Brie has now been added to DH’s acceptable foods list. DD chose the tomato soup which came with goldfish crackers. The soup was too strongly tomato for her – wasn’t a creamy soup like she is used to – but she ate all the crackers and the server kindly brought more.

I had 2 glasses of white superfruit sangria. I don’t drink a lot but am partial to a white wine spritzer. The sangria caught my eye and I enjoyed it so much I had a second glass – the second was mixed a lot stronger than the first so I stopped after that! DH and DD had coke as usual.

IMAGE_906781F1-0903-48C7-B4E3-731C36395CDB.JPG

I had the filet steak and lobster tail with a potato and bacon potato gratin. I really enjoyed this dish.

IMAGE_F4F96F4E-8581-4DB6-A037-8D99DC18A1F1.JPG

Dh had strip steak which was ok but not a patch on the other steaks of the trip. He doesn’t do seafood so had very much agreed to Narcoosees for me. DD is also a steak lover and opted for that and enjoyed it. She had fries not mashed potoat (I did have to move the offending ketchup - she must be the only 6 year old who hates the stuff)

For dessert DH had the brulee, I tried the almond cheesecake which I enjoyed but wasn’t raving about. DD had a cute nemo cupcake - DD likes nemo as he was born with a 'lucky little fin' like she was.

The server also brought DD some mickey straws for her drink.

It was a very leisurely paced meal. We suddenly noticed the electric water pageant floating past and DH took DD outside. I paid and joined them for hallowishes.

We had a great view from the deck and there was a lovely atmosphere – not crowded at all.

A lovely meal to end a great day.

I will mention something that did irritate me later. When we were paying off the things we had charged to the room Iater in the holiday I noticed the server had charged the alcohol to the room. I tipped in cash always and had left more than the recommended tip plus the cost of the two drinks. So by charging the drinks to the room the server had got over a 30% tip. Concierge did remove the drink charge but that and a few other blips we had would put me off having charging on my KTTWC again.

Love the Nemo cup cake it looks really good :goodvibes All the photos are really good. Do you think the DDP is good value when you have included the extra for tipping?

We have never paid for ddp - always gone when free dining offered to uk visitors. This time we paid the upgrade costs plus tips - I knew how much roughly tips would be so had factored that in when deciding to upgrade.

I know for 2013 the discounts aren't as good for okw/ssr and 14 nights with free ddp is coming out similar to what we paid with the upgrade to deluxe in 2012.

Breakfast

We had a later start today. DD had the mickey cake pop we had bought a couple of days before for breakfast and enjoyed it – was 1 snack credit. I think we just had coffee in our studio at OKW.

IMAGE_6A7FBFE5-F59E-40CE-81F6-532450EC1382.JPG

We also had a stop at club cool in Epcot. DD couldn’t remember coming here before and had fun – her favourite was the orange flavour coke.

This was our first time here. Our adr was for opening at 12 noon.

We were seated in a very light room to one side. We met Remy which was cute – his handler wheeled him over on a platter. She warned us he was a rat – apparently a lady had screamed at her recently thinking he was a real rat?!

IMG_3785.JPG
IMG_3791.JPG

The server here said DD could have adult choices as we were on deluxe dining plan – she couldn’t mix and match though had to pick all adult or child options. The only other place that offered this was Raglan Rd where the server offered DD an adult size fish and chips if she wanted.

IMG_3790.JPG

I had the French onion soup which was excellent – very cheesy and very flavourful. DH had a flatbread and DD had the adult cheese plate which we all had a bit of.

IMG_3786.JPG
IMG_3787.JPG
IMG_3788.JPG

DD tried the adult macaroni cheese. This was very rich. I had a croque monsieur sandwich which was nice. DH had a burger and fries which he enjoyed.

For dessert I had the sorbets which were light and fresh tasting, DH had profiteroles and DD the chocolate mousse.

We all had soda to drink.

The standout of the meal was the French onion soup ( I tried the same soup at Be our guest a few days later and definitely preferred the chefs de france one).

We had a 7.30pm adr. We parked in self parking across the street a cm was there in a golf cart and offered us a ride over to the resort which was fun.

We checked in just after 7.30pm.

This was our first time here and we were really looking forward to it. We were given a pager and listened to the band.

2012-10-29%252019.41.09.jpg
2012-10-29%252019.41.15.jpg

Things then went wrong as we waited over an hour to be seated even with an adr.

We hadnt been forgotton as other people were also waiting. No one seemed to be coming out of the restaurant except a large wedding party. The cm on the podium wasnt very friendly and seemed flustered.

After maybe 30 mins I went and asked and was told we would be next when a table of our size was seated but they then seated a family of four who had checked in after us.

We ended up standing next to the podium and waiting and waiting. Another lady came to complain about the wait, I also stepped in line, not wanted to be bumped behind another family. The podium lady seemed to panic and disappeared into the restaurant.

When she reappeared we were seated. The restaurant wasnt busy lots of tables our size free so no idea what was going on.

DD does very well in signatures but she was fed up as were we. I explained to the server we had had a long wait to be seated and were hungry i.e we didnt want a leisurely meal but this is what we ended up with he took ages to take our order for the appetiser and then we had these before he came to get the order for our main course.

You can see in the picture of DH's appetiser - that the food runner placed DH's appetiser on the menu - DH still had the menu as the server hadn't been to take our entree order yet.

I had a virgin pina colada to drink included on the dining plan and DH and DD coke.

IMG_3845.JPG
IMG_3846.JPG

We started with bread and butter. This was bread with seeds in DH got a piece with a massive hard seed in luckily he didnt break a tooth.

By now it was 9pm and no food. This was really annoying as we had debated changing to a 9pm adr so we could see fantasmic but had decided no as it would be too late for us to eat.

Sensing we were fed up waiting the server brought a complimentary amuse bouche of clam chowder. I tried this but didnt like. DH and DD wouldnt try it as it looked like cat sick.

IMG_3847.JPG

I had the shrimp and feta appetiser. This was very flavourful but the shrimp were rubbery. DD had a cheese plate and DH panadas which were pastry with a meat filling.

IMG_3849.JPG
IMG_3850.JPG
IMG_3851.JPG
IMG_3853.JPG

For our entree myself and DH had the filet with four cheese mash. DD opted for the pork tenderloin as there was no steak on the kids menu.

IMG_3857.JPG
IMG_3858.JPG
IMG_3859.JPG

The filet was good but the sauce too strong should have asked for it on the side. DD ended up eating a lot of our steak and DH said he preferred her pork to the steak so had DDs.

For dessert DH got the chocolate torte he gave DD the chocolate crown, a very pretty dessert. I had the tropical brulee which was nice and DD had a white chocolate mousse with mickey ears which she loved.

We were there over 3 hours which unfortunately just detracted from the meal. At no stage did anyone apologise for the long wait.

The lettuce wraps I had my eye on needed to be ordered by both of us so we had the pot stickers and fried green beans instead both of which we enjoyed. DH isnt a veg lover but liked the green beans I guess anything deep fried tastes good.

IMG_3919.JPG
IMG_3920.JPG

For my entree I had the Malaysian seafood curry. This was very mild but really tasty. If I had it again would ask for it spicier. It was like a thai red curry with lots of seafood. There was too much rice but I just ate around this. This was one of the best entrees I had all trip.

DH had the kobe beef burger and fries with asian slaw on the side. The fries were thin shoestring ones and very salty.

We had a 7.15 adr and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. They also had seats to sit and wait. We were seated in a side room the wine room with a few other parties. DH liked it in here as it was quiet. I was looking forward to seeing the main restaurant so would ask to be setaed there if we return to Jiko.

Our server was friendly and efficient. I think we were at Jiko just over an hour and a half and this suited us well. She was also very child friendly eg asking if DD wanted her main with our appetisers she didnt but nice to ask.

We had the complimentary bread and tandoori butter - I really liked the butter.

For appetiser we shared the chicken flatbread and the breads and dips. DD had some fruit which was super fresh.

The flatbread was probably the best appetiser we had all trip absolutely delicious. We also liked the breads and DH was impressed one was actually spicy the bhuna masala.

For my main course I had the filet steak with ancient grains. The steak was excellent. The grains ok bit like wild rice. DH had the short rib for a change from steak and enjoyed this.

DD had the kids steak medium rare. This should have come with ancient grains but the server said she could have the white macaroni cheese no problem. This was a very generous portion for a child and she loved it all.

For dessert I had a key lime creme brulee which was delicious, DH a cheesecake and DD fruit fun this was banana icecream, popping candy and some jello (jelly) She hated the jello but enjoyed the rest and the fun presentation.

The presentation of the kids dessert at jiko is lovely!

I'm enjoying reading along :goodvibes

Great reviews - I like the look of the lunch at the Bistro in France. Also, thanks for your comments on the DDP. I see the tips seem to coming in around the $30 mark at the signatures so this soon adds up over a few weeks.

I see your DD was themed dressed for Jiko with the animal print leggings! She looked lovely :thumbsup2

What a shame about Citricos - we had a poor start there one Christmas Day when they tried to seat us at some extra tables they had obviously just added due to capacity. When we wouldn't sit there we were soon shown into the main restaurant where there seemed to be plenty of tables :confused3 Anyway, we did enjoy our meal after all that!

Looking forward to more.

Joining in, I'm really enjoying your reviews and your daughter is adorable! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading and posting - yes lunch was good in France - they do a reasonably priced set menu at lunch if you are not on ddp.
