iPads in the Parks as cameras

I think you are forgetting that it can also record in 1080p HD which is what I think most peeps were using them for that I saw.

I will get getting one next month.

1080p doesn't make someone holding their iPad in front of your face any less annoying unfortunately

I just want to add, that not only does the size matter, but also the light.

many people have vision problems where it takes their eyes a while to adjust to the dark before they can see anything... those Ipad screens are rahter large, and emit a lot of light. ... well, enough to ruin the vision for other people....

I agree that it's rude. hold it down in front of you if you need to use it.

I also think large hats and plopping your kid on your shoulders (fireworks generally not included) is rude too....but if I choose to stand behind you it is kinda my problem.

also FWIW there are some pretty horrible point and shoots out there....AND my camera cost more then my iPad. Though I don't have a camera in my iPad so it doesn't venture into parks anyway.

Buy a Nokia Lumia 920. The night shots on that camera are the best you will see. Plus with the optical stabilization videos look stunning too.

I agree completely. I bring my ipad (which i find does not take very god pics) to use for reading while I eat as I travel solo. I also use if for WDW apps - there is a great one that shows RR locations! I can get my work email on it and it is easy to type on. but I carry my iphone for pics and calls... I have to share though that I took my first ipad on EE and the poor thing got totally confused and never worked properly afterwards. I took it to Apple and they were perplexed - never saw that before, but they replaced it and my new Ipad LOVES EE!!

Maybe someone can take the Yeti to Apple, and they'll replace for an arm swinging one!

Someone wearing a large hat doesn't bother me. First of all, they usually don't hold it at arm's length up above their head. Second, I can see the hat when I choose where to stand or sit and can choose another spot if needed.

BUT. People taping or taking pictures with an ipad do not stand with their ipad out extended over their head in advance of the show, so you have no idea that it's coming until the show starts and by then it's generally too late to find another spot. Same thing with putting kids on your shoulders last minute. I think it's equally as rude.

How waterproof are those iPads? Do they have the power to withstand the misting fans? Just asking because if someone pulled out an iPad and held it in front of me, I'd get so hot under the collar I'd need to start misting...

I'll be there tomorrow for a week. I highly doubt I will pull out my ipad just to snap a picture, that's what our dslr is for. However, I will use it for the My Disney Experience app

I just returned from Disneyland a few days ago and I was amazed at the number of folks I saw using their Ipads to take pictures or film events (such as the x-mas parades).

I'm not about to tell anyone what to do with their property...heck I carried both of my dslrs with me throughout the entire trip. I did make a concerted effort to make sure my photography did not interfere with other's enjoyment of the rides or attractions. My greatest concern using my ipad as my camera would be accidentally dropping it. Also...while the picture quality has certainly improved it does not provide as much flexibility with my dslr.

Talk about irritating? Sit behind some clown video recording Candlelight Processional with an Apple tablet . Sometimes you have to wonder what goes through people's heads.

I didn't really notice people with ipads at Disney, but this summer at my cousin's swim meet, there was a father who was recording his daughter swimming on his ipad right next to the water. He was so focused on the screen that he didn't see the chair he was about to walk into. Needless to say, he fell and the ipad made a nice plunk into the pool

I truly think some of these people try to use the ipad as a "status" symbol.

this has been an issue with me since march 2010 when the ipad 2 came out (1st one with camera)

overnight, you started seeing them pop up everywhere. Yes, i have one too, but it doesnt go out in public... its too big. the camera is crap. it was made for face time. even the one on the back. its a face time camera...period.

I'm not much of a photophile or a videophile when it comes to going out and doing activities ... to me, it's a waste to spend a lot of time taking pictures and videos while you're at Disneyworld because it's more about making memories rather than looking at pictures later ... this has caused some arguments with my wife over the years.

But that being said, I was glancing down at a woman that was recording the entire IllumiNations show on her iPad and couldn't stop wondering ... "when are you ever going to watch that? And how is it going to be 1/100th as good as watching it live and not fiddling with and watching your video screen?"

I guess everyone has to do it at least once though (I did too) to find out that later when you show your friends back home how impressive it was, and then get the "oh huh ... yeah, that's nice" that it's not interesting on your phone or iPad.

I got an iPad 2 for Christmas last year and not once on our WDW summer trip or my DL trip did it occur to me to use it as a camera. I did see a lot of people using them though but seems like entirely too much carrying it around. Plus the camera is a little low quality. I'd much rather just carry around my iPhone. Picture quality is so much better on the iPhone.

Plus I am a very forgetful person and I'm worried I'd set it down and forget it.

On a side note I bought one of the Disney iPad cases and they fit mine perfectly. I love them, even if it was a little on the expensive side. But that's all the "Disney" I want for my iPad haha!

I think as long as people are not use them when they are not supposed to there is no problem, but I guess everyone will complain about something.

We encountered this for the first time last September in Yellowstone National Park. I call them padographers and they drive me crazy. It is a big distraction and the pad up in the air can really block the view of folks in the back.

The issue is that when someone lifts up an iPad and films something like entire show or parade it blocks the view of those behind them much more than just a small camera.

Also if its a darker show, its just like if you had a 10 inch wide view finder on your camera.
