August 31st 2013 - 7 night Mediterranean cruise aboard the Disney Magic

Hi all again! I have been looking at excursions (big surprise :upsidedow) and While I love the fact that we have a super, experienced Rome tour guide on board who is willing for us to tag along and pick his wonderful brain... I am going to Rome for the first time so I want to see all the really TOURISTY stuff (please don't hate me) Thing is, I think I found the ideal 'private tour guide' who is highly recommended on this board. It is significantly less expensive for the guide to pick you up at the train station in Rome rather than drive from Civi. So...

I was wondering if there was a family of three willing to share the tour with me and my family? We don't bite and we 'might' bring baklava:rotfl: PM me

Hiya :thumbsup2 I am still actively looking at our excursions too!!::yes::

We were thinking of catching the train in and then just doing some of the touristy stuff (last year we did a private tour with a group of Dissers/Dibbers and it was great, but I feel as though we have 'done' the vatican now and will only want to go back and potter around for the day).

We would have been interested in joining you, but we are a party of four :worried:

I am debating whether to book a private tour too - but a 'make your own' version as we would prefer to redo all of the other touristy stuff except the Vatican (Colliseum, Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish Steps & then rather than go off to the Vatican which most tours seem to do, we will ask for some free time to grab lunch/ice cream and potter around the Piazzas before returning to the ship).

I know the train would be cheapest, but it is such a long way into Rome and I am worried I will get stressed about missing/delayed trains - On our last cruise there was an accident on the line to Monte Carlo and we never got there - that just stopped us going sightseeing, so it didn't affect us getting back to the Ship or anything, but it has made me a bit nervous about being stuck in a strange city - especially one so far from the port.::yes::

Thanks Debbie- although we haven't made any plans yet- we will be just winging it ourselves in each port. My partner is not as sociable as me- and I wouldn't want to inflict him on anyone else!!

I will be leaving this thread. :(

Its not sad news though - have finally got everything sorted, and am booked on the two week transatlantic in May. Everything confirmed last night and flights already booked - was an expensive evening!!

Have a fabulous cruise, and look forward to reading trip reports all about it.

Congratulations!:woohoo:
The same year I retire I am SO taking a transatlantic!:yay:

:rotfl2: That sounds very much like my husband and daughter! Just to give you a clue, the only way I can get them to come into Rome with DD2 and I is to have a car available to take them around because they don't do heat and sun very well... Which is ironic because they constitute the "Greek" half of my family:rotfl:

Hi all. We had originally booked for this cruise but the week earlier but have had to change to this one so HI!!!! Me and my family will be on the same cruise as you guys and this thread looks so so much busier than the last one. This will be our second Disney cruise, we went on our first in February to the Bahamas and caught the Disney cruise bug and we LOVE it. Sailing will be me my husband and our two sons Harry (7) and Noah (3) and they dont know we have booked its going to be a surprise :hyper:

Welcome Becky! Glad to have you join us :) Have a look at the first page of this thread for information on fellow cruisers, our facebook page and our FE list if your interested. :yay:

Ok Becky, you guys can come, but no one else! :P It doesn't look like we have a full ship!

Hello Becky and Family, welcome aboard!

Hello again to our fabulous cruising mates!

Didn't we have a name for our group? Is anyone still interested in that? I remember something about a last flamenco in the med, or something along those lines....

I was just reading about booking a group Palo Brunch. Is that something we are interested in? There can be 12 people

I have solved my "how do I get my 'grumpy when its hot' husband to experience Rome with me" problem... For about the same price as a private excursion, I am flying with him to Rome for three days during my Easter break. :cool1: I still can't believe it! I will still be taking DD2 into Rome for the day on the train from Civi when the cruise docks there, but now we will be more relaxed! :)

Hiya:wave2: I would like to know if we have a name as I will then try to incorporate it in my FE gifts (I have decided I WILL participate!!:thumbsup2) - I vaguely think we talked about some ideas early on (perhaps they are on the old thread:confused3) but I can't remember what they were!!;)

I feel as though I have been missing out on the Palo brunch thing (we did Palo for dinner on our first cruise but haven't been since as we have had the boys) - I would like to say I'd join you, but my boys are a bit funny when it comes to the kids clubs (they love them when they go on their terms, but I'm not sure they will be happy going if I send them - I think they think they will be missing out on something) - I will talk to Steve and the boys and see what they think (I'd hate to say we would join you all and then let you down because they don't want to go to the club).:)

Thats fantastic news about your Rome trip - you will be the 'expert' after Easter, so you can expect lots of questions upon your return!!;)

Great that you have decided to join in the FE Amy :-)

Debbie- I'd be up for a Palo Brunch if we have enough interest. I don't drink so this would be more my cup of tea than the Mixology class :-)

:yay:I will call DCL soon to see what is required to set up a brunch. I don't suppose anyone has a NON 800 type number? I can only call direct from here.

I had to call last night to enquire about Adventures by Disney (which the idea has promptly gone out f the window once they gave me a quote!), my phone converts 0800 numbers into normal numbers so it rang 01242 983 196- but that's from UK- not sure about Greece?

Thanks for trying! It seems to me a digit is missing. I will find something! Come on, tell us the quote:rotfl:

Lol- they quoted £1,400 per person to add Adventures by Disney to our booking ( this just would give us planned excursions with an Adventure by Disney tour guide at the ports). My family could cruise another 2-3 times for that!

:scared1: Wow! I was always curious.

Welcome onboard Becky and family :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Booked our flights and have 3 days in Barcelona before the cruise, can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced, hotel?
