how much of a change will "move you up" a carrel?

Hi guys,

I'm doing a timed 10K Turkey Trot and I'm wondering how much time I'd need to drop to move up a carrel for the half at marathon weekend. I know this isn't a question anyone can definitively answer, but firsthand anecdotes, educated speculation or crazy guesses will be gratefully received!

In case you'd like more intel to work with: I'm working off a proof of time that was recorded when I very first started running last June. It's slow (a wee bit over a 11 1/2 minute pace), and I'm still slow. I do train regularly and I've lost about 40 libs since then. So I'm wondering if there's any chance of moving up. And, if so, what I'd need to do so?

Guesses? Anyone?

Thanks!

This is really a question that can't be answered. Let's say there is a corral with the people with estimated times of 2:30-2:45. If you have a estimated time for 2:30, you would only need to drop 1 minute to be in the next corral. However, if you have an estimated time for 2:45, you would need to drop at least 15 to move up. Just do your best, and don't worry about it! People stress about corrals, but really, if you are where you need to be and can do a 16 minute pace, they work out for everyone.

BTW, 11:30 at a Disney race is NOT a slow pace. You will be in the front half corral wise.

100% agree!! :thumbsup2

Right -- I'm not selling anecdotal evidence as hard science, more of a matter of grist for individual curiousity.

So if someone(s) tell(s) me the got moved when, say, they went from 11:45 to 11:29, it gives me new matter to speculate on. And, really, on long runs ANY new matter for speculation is helpful, even if it's not accurate!

Here's something that may give you a quick idea. These are where the pace teams were for Clif at the DL Half in September. Not far from what I had guestimated before. I'm sure it isn't exact for Disney World, but at least gives a pace idea.

1:40: CORRAL A: FRONT
1:50: CORRAL B: MIDDLE
2:00: CORRAL B: FRONT
2:15: CORRAL C: FRONT
2:30: CORRAL D: FRONT
2:45: CORRAL E: FRONT
3:00: CORRAL E: MIDDLE

Do you mean 1:50 was in the middle of A, and 2:00 was in the front of B? It doesn't make sense that that the 2:00 group would be in front of the 1:50 group

I don't know, I just copied and pasted this straight from the Clif Pace site.

I'm thinking the 1:50 was supposed to be middle A. Anyone who is capable with proof of time to run a half in under 2 hours is almost guaranteed to be in A for any of the Disney races.

What is the deal with this "front" and "middle" of a corral.
Are corral's sub-divided? I was under the impression that if you are placed in a certain corral, you could position yourself anywhere within that corral. Is that not so?

You are allowed to stand anywhere in your corral. What was posted was where to find the pacing groups within those corrals.

I think WDW Marathon weekend corral placement may be slightly different than the other Disney races because of the number of participants. I submitted a 1:54 half time for the 2012 Goofy and was placed in corral B.

OP

You may get moved up one corral with the time improvement noted. This is based solely on the 11:29 dropping your below a 2:30 half

It is really not an easy prediction without knowing where the corral lines are drawn and those depend on the entrant list for 2013.

Yeah where you line up in your corral doesn't matter - I was more curious about the dividing line between a and b thats why i brought it up. a 1:40 half is :lmao:: for me, but the 1:50s ballpark if I was in peak shape, feeling great, and the weather was perfect wouldn't be completely unreasonable. Not running in Jan, but thinking of Disneyland

That sounds very consistent with prior years. For 2011, I turned in a marathon time of between 4 and 4:15 (don't remember exactly what it was) and ended up in corral B for the half and corral A for the full.

Thanks, all -- now I just have to run my Turkey Trot.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

In case anyone is wondering: I did indeed beat my old time, going from a 11:39 minute / mile page in the 10K to a 10:50 (according to my Garmin, anyway -- I know it won't be official until later today when the race posts results). But as long as it begins with a "10," I'm happy!

Congrats on a great race! As we get closer, and people get their numbers (but not corrals), this info usually gets posted. You may get a better feel for what corral you "could" be in with your latest time vs. what corral you "may" be in based on the time you originally submitted.

In any event, bring proof with you and you can always check at the expo and see if it will improve your starting place.

I totally understand if you want to move up or even push your way to the front of a corral. Depending on your race goal, it can provide a psychological boost. (And a physical one if you don't want to dodge as many people!)
