i was pulling into tim hortons and as i was driving through the parking lot some one in front of me was as well, i thought he/she was turning left and i didnt even think to stop so i proceeded slowly until i noticed that he/sshe almost hit the oncoming car and he/she decided(or was already going to) to back up and i was in his way for him/her to back up, so i decided to back up to let him in and as soon as i backed up literally 3 feet boom i hit the car behind me. i got out and this car i hit a guy walked out too we both looked at eachother and he checked his car and so did i, i said sorry told him it was my fault and then i told him what went on in front of me and he said he saw to and then he told me to turn around so i could flash my lights at his front bumper to check for damage so i did and he looked at his bumper for about 25 seconds and said merrry christmas and shook my hand, i was like dont you want any of my information and he said dont worry about theres no dents or cracks.

i just want your thoughts on what happened in my description, i feel bad because if that was my car i would have been pissed even if nothing wrong.

im pretty sure he a pretty NEW LOOKING MERCEDES!!!!! im 18 years old and just got my lisence 4 months ago.

Be happy there was no damage and that he wasn't... well, like you, apparently!

If there's nothing wrong, why be mad?

You got lucky. Start looking behind you before you throw it in reverse and count yourself blessed that he just let it go.

you got lucky. guessing the guy didnt see much damage so he just let it go. dealing with insurance and fixing will also probably cost him more money to deal with probably...

Also this, btw. It's a parking lot - there are people walking ALL OVER and darting out from in between rows. Look before you back up! Even if you looked a minute ago, it's like switching lanes - you look *again*. You could have backed into a person or a little kid. Be happy nothing bad happened and take it as a lesson to be more careful.

Something similar happened to me when I was like 19. I hit a patch of ice and slowly slid into the car in front of me. I was hysterically sobbing and the guy looked at his car, said Merry Christmas and left. I was like

Parking lots especially during the holiday season can get crazy. Just make sure to be extra careful.

im still thinking about this and will take WAY MORE PRE-CAUTION when driving.

Perhaps this was a good example of how to respond that you can draw from in the future. Be very thankful he didn't want to get insurance involved!

You got very lucky as this happened to my son and the car he hit was already old and dented. The guy called the cops.

You'll never back up without looking in your rear view again so you learned a lesson.

I have been backed into two different times when I was behind someone at a stop sign. No obvious reason for either to back up. I have made it a rule that I don't back up in a situation like that. The person in front of you needs to figure out how to get out of that situation by going forward, not making you back up. It is not worth the risk of you being at fault in an accident or even worse, hitting someone walking in a parking lot.

I am glad all is okay. Lesson learned.:)

Glad all turned out well. Next time, just stay where you are and honk your horn so the person in front of you knows you're there and that you're not moving.

It happens and some thing are not worth getting upset about. IMO that is the small stuff we shouldn't sweat. I have probably about a half dozen times told someone to just go who tapped my bumper. To me even if there is a small scratch stuff happens and it is not worth my time and effort to make a report, take it to a shop for the estimate etc. If it wasn't a car most likely someone would hit it with a cart in a parking lot and scratch it at sometime in the future anyway if they haven't already. Plus when someone accidentally taps your bumper it makes their day to say no biggie have a good day and maybe they will pay it forward someday and not sweat it. :thumbsup2
