DS and I play this whenever we can at home, just so we can laugh at DW trying not to blubber. Yes, we are sadistic, I know.

yeah, we have a local station that does 24hrs of Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving. Well, this year they've decided it would be better to start a week early!!! AARRGHGHG!!!!

Ah, the song that wins every "Worst Christmas Carol" contest, every year. I still can't believe that any radio station would play the thing. I think it's called "Christmas Shoes", but we always call it "Jesus Shoes".

Although I truly loathe the Dying Mama Shoes song, the one that makes me put a gun to my head is Chrissie Hynde's version of "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas." It is the single most depressing Christmas song ever. I have walked out of dressing rooms without finishing trying on clothes when I have heard that suicidal wailing.

This literally made me lol, because I always feel the same way about that blasted song. I also hate "A Wonderful Christmas Time" thanks to my local mall and supermarket, etc. I swear, that and that awful Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas" song is all they ever play every single year! I love good Christmas carols though.

My Christmas tree goes up sometime in December and comes down sometime in December. It is never up in either November or January. I love Christmas, it is my favorite holiday, but I don't need it to bleed over into other months.

Since Thanksgiving is the earliest it can fall this year, and since there's still 10 days in November afterwards, my suggestion is for the world to follow Fire Dancer's example. No holiday store decorations before December 1, no carols or other holiday music, nothing Xmas related in November. There's plenty of time in December to decorate and get into the Xmas spirit.

I haven't noticed Xmas music in stores yet, but maybe I've developed the ability to tune it out.

Home Depot already had cut trees in their garden center yard this past weekend.

YUP! This is me too. Only i take my tree down on boxing day, or the 27th. Lol. I dont see the point of leaving the tree up when christmas has past.

What's taking you so long to remove your tree??? You should do what a neighbor of mine once did. About 5 or 6 years ago I noticed him taking down the outdoor lights about 3pm Christmas Day in a light rain. The tree was already at the curb. I ran into him a few days later at the supermarket and mentioned that I noticed him taking down the decorations. His response: "Christmas was over."

Personally, I think there may have been an ugly scene that Christmas morning. The snotty kids probably didn't get what they wanted, kept whining about it, and he got so fed up with it he finally heaved the tree out the door.

I'll probably put up our tree the weekend of December 15th, and it will likely stay up until the first weekend in January. But after December 28th or so, it's just "there", not really looked at or lighted up anymore. It's a too lazy to take it down kind of thing.

Somehow I missed that version. But that song is pretty rough, no matter who sings it. Festive, it ain't.

My pet peeve is the 'modern' versions of classic Christmas carols. I really don't need to hear any Christmas recordings made after, say, 1968. I think I wouldn't be so grumpy about the incessant carol-playing if they'd stick to the old stuff. Nobody needed to record "White Christmas" after Bing Crosby did it. Same goes for Andy Williams' version of "Do You Hear What I Hear", and Johnny Mathis's "Most Wonderful Time of the Year".

Excuse me, now I need to go chase the kids off my lawn.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy. I love it. I watched the yule log with Christmas carols day before yesterday. The burning logs crackle and pop on the TV and I feel like I'm in front of my fireplace

I love Christmas music, but can't stand hearing a few of the songs over and over and over.

"Jingle Bell Rock"
"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"
"Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time"

But I've been lucky so far, because I haven't yet heard the annoying Italian Christmas Donkey song or "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."

Can anyone tell me why, with hundreds of years of songs from which to draw, we still wind up with basically 20-30 songs that get played incessantly?

It's simple. The first radio station in a city to go all Christmas music always gets the biggest bump up in ratings.......and the station that sticks to the "classics" gets another bump up. People are funny, they complain about it, but if the radio stations mix it up, people tune out, they want the classics only.

OP, I'm right there with you. 2 stations in Richmond started playing Christmas music several weeks ago. Makes me want to cry, and not in a good way!!!

I now have 2 stations left that I can listen to for the next 6 weeks. BTW, I'm a Christian, and love traditional carols. We have plenty to enjoy listening and singing to at church. The holidays tend to stress me, and I'd just like to hear regular music when I'm driving. Time to break out my CDs!!

As the wife of a maintance worker for one of our local malls, I am truely sitting here laughing my butt off at this comment. Until he got this job, I NEVER would have guessed exactly how much time it took to get some of this mall decorating done.

They started on 10/29 actually decorating. The prep work - wiring lights together, changing out bulbs, fluffing tree branches - all started 10/1. The first two weeks, DH had 40 hours of OT and that was on top of their part timers getting 40+ hours instead of just 2 or 3 days a week.

On a normal week, maintance hours are over at 9:30pm. Not during this time of the season. It's really hard to have a lift running with a couple of guys 40 ft up in the air hanging garland out during normal business hours, because people aren't the brightest and walk in that area, oblivious to the fact that they are in an area that something could fall and cause them to be hurt. So you have to do that at night, in the dark, in the cold from 9:30 to 2 a.m..

The official tree lighting was last saturday and they are still working this week to get the rest of it done by wed night, they hope. The marketing director may have a revolt on her hands, if she doesn't stop coming up with idea's to make it better. Every idea she has, it adds another day or two to their long list of decorating.

I once watched the Christmas Shoes movie. I did not realize it at first. If mommy was wasting her shoes when she met Jesus, how did the boy, now a man, end up with the shoes. Did Jesus throw those shoes back to earth or did momma kick them off when she saw them?
