If you are hosting! How much do you spend for thanksgiving day groceries?

Just the four of us (myself, boyfriend, and our girls) and I think our bill must be around 50-70 bucks. That includes food, candles and flowers for the table as well. Since it's just the four of us and I don't eat meat we don't buy a turkey, even a small one. Instead I buy two Cornish Game Hens and I bought them yesterday at Walmart.

I love Thanksgiving, it's always been one of my favorite holidays even as a child growing up I loved it more than Christmas. Now as an adult I love it just as much and since I'm the one cooking this one meal generates several meals of left overs for me and my family.

Gobble-Gobble folks! Have a wonderful, lively, and simply devine Thanksgiving.

I will have 10 people and am spending well over $200. The turkey is expensive because it is boneless ($70.00). But everything costs a lot these days. Homemade guacamole dip and chex mix will cost over $10 each. The crackers, cheese and fruit for the cheese board is well over $25, and those are just some of the appetizers...it adds up!

The day before I get fresh flowers and good wine. I adore Thanksgiving and am very, very grateful to live in this country and be able to share a wonderful meal with my family. :)

Walmart Grocery bill was about $40 over normal, grocery store was about $30 over, so about $70 for 7 folks.

This is the first year my mom didn't buy the turkey..........my wife bee lined for the fresh turkeys and did an about face when she saw they were $38 and the butterballs were about $8.

We end up between $100 - $150 with my mother in law bringing the turkey.

We feed about 20 people.

Is it bad I am still planning the meal??? :rotfl: My mom is picking up the biggest expense. She doesn't want to cook a turkey and I am afraid of cooking one..soooo we ordered pulled pork from a local place. This stuff is to die for! It will cost about $50 but I am very thankful they were willing to do a special order for us. So far I have spent about $10 on potatoes and rolls. My sister is bringing the green beans and I am making a pumpkin pie and cupcakes for people to take home. Just need to come up with appitizer ideas.

I am hosting, and about 16 people are attending. Here's my approximations, but bear in mind that some things are being contributed by others...

10 lb bag Sweet Potatoes (Costco) = $7 (there will be too much for one meal)

20 lb bag white potatoes (Costco) = $7 (there will be too much for one meal)

I've never been to Costco, and everyone talks about how good their prices are, but those's two prices are more than my regular grocery store. :scared1:

I will be having about 16 people at my house, along with 8 of us for breakfast. Alcohol will be served (please...!!) I'm shopping...WEDNESDAY...I'll let you know what I spend then!!!

Bringing the hubby with so he can experience my pain. :rotfl2:

That is what kills our budget. The bottle of vodka for the Cosmos is $60.00. Another $75.00 for the wine. And about $30 for the beer for the brine (and the cook the day before as she prepares the brine :rolleyes1)

:rotfl::rotfl: YES!!!

A strict no SO policy? If I've been dating someone seriously, I would have gigantic issues with that.

I spent about $200 on our dinner for me and DS14. Even though it's just the 2 of us, we're having a 20 pound turkey and multiple pies. Plus, I bought a decent bottle of pinot noir. . . . don't you judge me . . . :p

$313 today at Trader Joe's and I've already started a list of things that I have to go pick up tomorrow.

In explanation though -- it is almost all ready-made or heat and serve. I don't cook well or easily and it just stresses me out to even try. I'd rather just pay the money and relax.

Huh. I've never hosted T-Day but I think I could do it for ~ $100 for my family's usual crowd (12 unless we have extra guests for some reason). And that's if I buy the pricey free range bird from Trader Joe's and we spend $20 on oil for the deep fryer and go mostly organic, and don't ask anyone to contribute anything. My family doesn't tend to drink alcohol as at least half of us have to drive, and anyway we aren't big drinkers, so I left out wine/beer/liquor.

$35 for the turkey
$20 for oil for the fryer
$5 for fresh herbs for various recipes
$12 for ingrediants for the stuffing
$6 for ingrediants for mashed potatos
$10 for fresh veggies to steam as a side
$6 for double batch green bean casserole
$5 dinner rolls
$12 for ingrediants for one pumpkin and one apple pie
$25ish for soda, cheese/cracker tray, cranberry sauce, various odds n ends

I think I am at about $200 spent and I still have to purchase the liquor and some other odds and ends which will probably be another $75 or more dollars. We are hosting about 22-25 people.

The turkey alone was $35 and the ham was another $28.

Not mine!! I should mention the white potatoes aren't little tiny ones, they are the big baker sized ones. We like them better because you only have to peel a few of them to make mashed potatoes, instead of 20 or 30 ;)

And the quality always seems much better to me too.

I did my shopping today and it came to $245 after the $30 instore savings. This is for a 7 person meal. The turkey itself was $25 for a 20lb one and that was originally $35 before the bonus savings. I did have a few things in there not thanksgiving related so take $50 or so off that but still was close to $200. I still need to spend another $25 of so tomorrow for odds and ends I didn't get today.

I spent $4.99 for a 5lb bag of potatoes at Giants today.

My cousin hosts about 20-25 of us, and I'm absolutely sure that her bill is more than $300 for alcohol and appetizers alone ;)
