December 2012 Car Rentals

I got a Standard size (Fusion, Altima, or similar) with Enterprise for a week rental from 11/30 to 12/6 for $172 all in using the BJ's club link. It was the only weekly rental under $200 when taxes and fees were factored in. Dollar/Thrifty was $205 and National/Alamo $221 for the same rental.

For those that don't know, Enterprise shares the same ownership as National/Alamo and on our prior trips had much better selection than National/Alamo.

WINGS91 -

I found a new coupon on Mousesavers (NU3637ZDJ) it is for 1 car upgrade - I used it with my KLM code and using the code I was able to get a midsize for 19.00 less than my current midsize KLM reservation. The only drawback is that I won't be able to use the Emerald Aisle but I don't need anything bigger than a midsize anyway so that won't be a problem.

Why can't you use the emerald aisle? If you are upgrading TO a midsize (booked compact), I think you can.
Did you upgrade FROM a midsize to a fullsize?

For those people wanting to use the emerald aisle, the best I'm seeing at this point for early December - I'm searching Dec 8 to 15 - is KLM code booking a compact and using a 1 class upgrade coupon. Should be about $196 for a week.

I thought that you had to book a midsize to use the Emerald Aisle - with the coupon I am booking a compact and it is upgrading me to a midsize. Is that same? But what if I get to the Emerald Aisle and all they have are large cars? Can I take something off the midsize aisle?

As you can tell I am new to the Emerald Aisle stuff. I just did it for the easy of getting out of the airport.

You are booking a midsize with the upgrade so you can go to the Emerald Aisle and select your choice of car.

In addition to the Emerald Aisle, yes I think you can go to the midsize "Aisle" and select something there. I'm not sure how large the Midsize "Aisle" is.....I know for Compact it is only several parking spaces. If you dodn't find an actual Midsize car and speak to the attendant, it is likely that they would help you get one from the Alamo stock.

Just got my Christmas reservation down a little further through Enterprise. Booked a standard with the 10% off weekly rates available through the Entertainment book. Dec. 19-27 $184.19. My cheapest original rate was $244 using the KLM code @ National so I've now saved myself $60. I'll take it. That's 4 Lapu Lapus! Woo Hoo! :woohoo: I'm thrilled to be under $200. It would only be better if it was with one of the kiosk or walk right out to your car rental car companies.

Renting from Dec 3-15. Have a ressie at National, emerald# and coupon ND9334SND ($30 off) - price of $551.09.
New National coupon (NFD2438JNG - free day) brings price down to $545.13, but must book a standard car.

Question - can I book a standard car and still choose from the emerald aisle, if there's something bigger? I forget - are you only guarenteed a mid-size in the emerald aisle? If so, reserving a standard would guarentee a larger car?

Also - I have a emerald id# from the company I used to work for that gives me a much lower rate. However - I'm assuming you must be a current employeed to use that contract id?

The KLM code gives a much lower rate ($369.27), but I'm not comfortable using it. Any other deals out there? (we don't have BJ's here)

Go to KLM's website. Join their frequent flyer club. Print or note your member number.

Then you're eligible for that discount code.

Don't know if a midsize SUV would work but with Alamo using costco ID 7014627 and E-Coupon AD8ZZ7SDJ for $30 off the total is $341 inc taxes.

Thanks so much! A midsize SUV should work just fine (I'm going to check DH). Why is it so much less than compact/economy, etc?
Also - do I need the coupon? where can I find it?

Without the costco membership, it's only $30 more. Is the coupon a costco coupon?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This info is probably in this thread somewhere - sorry if you're repeating yourself!

I have only used Alamo/National at MCO, but can't justify their rates right now. Hoping for a drop in the next 3 weeks but I'm beginning to have my doubts! I'm even willing to pay a little more for the convenience of Alamo/National, but I can't touch their rates right now. Which other rental companies allow to you walk right out to your car?

Hertz Gold, Alamo & National are the ones I usually use. I think someone on this thread also said you can register with Dollar Express and choose your car. I'm not sure if you have to go to the counter first or not. I might pay a little more too for the convenience but not $60.00. That's too much of a difference.

I went ahead and booked with Alamo - southwest ff code: 7015765 & visa coupon: AD2338FDF... rate of $371.25. :)

Thank you for this combination! $178 total for a midsize car; the best rate I was getting before was $205 (well, the best rate was about $150, but I can't find the e-mail confirmation and Alamo doesn't have any record of that one :().

Yes thank you for this combo! I was able to get a midsize for 12/19-27 for $188.68. It still doesn't beat the $184.19 rate I got with Enterprise earlier today but for the extra $4.49 I will go with Alamo for the convenience of using the kiosk. I also plugged in the Costco id listed a few posts above with the visa coupon & the price was the same.

So glad I could help! Webworm pointed me in the right direction, but I don't have a costco membership so I had to see what other options were out there. This combination worked best for me, glad it has helped others, too. So glad to have a reasonable rate!
