For what it's worth, and to put the other side of the argument, we do tend to book River View at POR. I agree it's probably not technically worth $30 extra in the cold light of day, but once it's booked I somehow don't notice that incremental cost.

There are several reasons for liking River View, none of them perhaps compelling on their own, but they do add up.

First, the locations of the river view rooms are generally among the best at the resort (even better than some of the Preferred Location rooms). The easy access to the riverbank pathway means that whatever building you are in, you've got very easy access to the main pool area and the main building, plus pretty good access to the South bus stop (though not so much to the other stops).

Second, we're not 100% commando park touring types, and we do tend to spend plenty of time lazing around the resort. Even sitting in the room, the view really is very nice and much better than staring out over a parking lot. Because of the separated raised access walkways, which have many different access points, there honestly is VERY little foot traffic immediately past the rooms, so we mostly keep the blinds open when we're in the room.

Finally, it's nice to be able to step outside of the room from time to time, just for some fresh air and to enjoy the scenery. I'll often do that first thing in the morning, before everyone else wakes up, and just lean on the railing and watch the river, wildlife, the odd jogger running down the riverbank pathway, etc. It really is an amazing relaxing place to be.

Sometimes of an evening we'll pull a couple of chairs outside into the little recessed alcove section and have drink. I know it's not a "private" balcony as such, but as I said the foot traffic is very limited around each immediate room location, and anyway it's kinda nice to say hi to your neighbours anyway. I love watching the boats and the evening horse & carriage rides going past from the mansion buildings.

As I said, I suspect none of these are worth $30 directly on their own, but given that the rooms already cost the best part of $200 anyway the extra charge somehow doesn't seem such a jump.

However I can also see the argument that if you're going to keep the blinds shut all the time, and be out at the parks from 8am until 10pm, then there's really no point in getting anything other than the cheapest option. That's just not us though.

I appreciate the insight. I'm still unsure about what to do. Pre-baby, we were open to close park people. My son will be a year and a half when we go, so I'm guessing we'll be back at the resort for a nap at least once a day. It would be nice to have a cool view while my little man is napping, but my in-laws are also coming, which means 2 rooms. River View = $30 more than standard. $30 x 2 rooms x 6 nights = $360. I'm thinking that $360 might be better spent elsewhere. Maybe not though? Tough decision...but what an exciting tough decision. haha.

This will be our first time staying at POR, and we couldn't be more excited! We have booked a king room, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for a room outside of AB area. Any one know what the possibility of that is?

Does anyone have a chart, or know of where I can find a chart of expected travel times between the resort and DTD/parks?

We booked a King room, too. I was wondering if there was a chart/map of King rooms out there somewhere. I think I would prefer Magnolia Bend section, but really as long as we're close to the main building, I'll be happy :)

Hello! We just changed our April reservation to a standard view in a Royal Guest Room. :goodvibes

Wondering what I should request to be close to bridge to main lobby area??? :confused3

Should I ask for "close to lobby"? Or "Oak Manor?"

Thanks!

Downtown Disney isn't listed but here are the distances for the others. These are not the times just miles. Way to many factors have an impact on the time. Busses run around every 15 min. You may walk up and a bus may come in a minute or two or you may wait 15 minutes just for the bus to arrive. The bus makes several stops at POR so factor that in for each stop. The number of strollers/ EVC can add several minutes to each stop. Then just factor in the distance from the info below. Others can probably expain this much better.

Hi. Does anyone have measurements of the Murphy bed mattress? Trying to decide if my 9 1/2 year old DD would be comfortable on it? I've seen pictures, but it is hard to tell true size. Or if anyone can compare it to the size of the day beds at CR or Poly? Thanks so much.

Hi. Does anyone have measurements of the Murphy bed mattress?

This is a double post, but as I said in the other thread, they are about 63" x 30". My 12 year old DD (5' 2.5" at the time) slept very comfortably on one for two weeks in August.

This sounds like a million requests to me, but... can anyone recommend a king-bed room, near the main building/food court, either on the first floor or in a building with an elevator? I don't care if it's Magnolia Bend or Alligator Bayou. Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

They are scattered all around the resort, in both the Alligator Bayou and mansion building sections. Given that there are twice as many AB rooms than mansion building rooms, you would be more likely to get AB by random chance. I'd suggest putting in a request for a room in Magnolia Bend if that's what you prefer, however if proximity to the main building is more important you could also request Alligator Bayou 14, 15 or 18 as they are the closest (the King Bed category does include rooms within the Preferred buildings).

I'd suggest asking for "close to lobby" as there are some good rooms in Parterre Place too, which might be closer for you. However the 'Standard' room category would normally place you at the back of the building, facing the parking lots, so not really very close I'm afraid. However it's worth asking anyway - you never know, you might get pixie dusted. :)

Don't ask for specific room numbers, ask for what features you want. King Bed is already a paid booking category so no need to request that, so I'd just ask for "ground floor close to main building". Keep requests as simple as possible, you're more likely to get them fulfilled that way. If there's a specific or medical reason for your request, might be worth mentioning that too.

Thanks Andre! :)

This may sound silly, but I have read where people talking about traffic outside their door...

Is there an inner hallway like most hotels, or is it motel style where you get to your room from outside? I ask because I am hoping to get a room facing the inlaws (not adjoining or connected), but after reading through this tread its starting to sound like its more motel style than hotel style?!

We leave in 8 days and I was hoping to send the request via fax soon.

thanks!

This is great to know! I had done a search but couldn't find the info when I was looking last week.
My ds is 8 and 54inches currently, so he should have ample room.
There's only four of us, but it will work much better if he has his own bed. Hopefully we are able to get a room on the AB side:)

Yes, POR has outdoor corridors....or more "motel style" if you will. :)

My family is leaving for POR in 24 days and I have not placed any requests yet for our room. We are currently booked in a Royal Garden Room. We would like to be as close to the bridge as possible. Should I call and add it to my reservation, send a fax in the next few weeks or just wait to note this request on the online check in form? We are so excited for this trip since I will be celebrating my 40th birthday while we are there. On my birthday we will be attending our very first MVMCP and eating at one of our favorites, 'Ohana for an early dinner. My 10 year old daughter even told me as a birthday present that morning she would go on Tower of Terror with me. Usually she sits that ride out and we have never rode as a family. Great gift as long as she doesn't melt down after!;) I told my hubby that if I must turn 40 I wanted to do it in my favorite place in the world. What a great guy to agree!:thumbsup2

I would suggest getting your request added to your main booking now (just ask for "near to bridge to main building") and then maybe send a fax about 3-5 days before you arrive if it's especially important to you. You can't add free-form text requests using the online checkin system by the way.
