Just finished my 6 mile run tonight guys :cool1: feelin' a bit pooped, but I averaged an 11:06 mm. I stopped for a brief second to take a picture of the sunset, then proceeded to drop my phone like a doof :sad2:. Didn't break it though!! I also went adventuring out on the main roads. I'm not used to the hills out there, oye!! But I feel good, and I'm proud! 1:07:55 was my finishing time :). Here is the photo that almost cost me my phone, haha!

The picture of the sunset was beautiful !!!! We've had a gloomy day raining on and off. No running on the track tomorrow for me...I've got to hit the treadmill. But at least I'm watching a cool series of behind of scenes of Disney Parks. It really helps pass the time on TM.

I am getting way off track in my training and need some motivation! I ran the Disneyland 1/2 in September (my first 1/2, SO much fun!), but have had a hard time with training since then. Wrapped up one job and started a new one the next day - running has gotten pushed to the back burner. Now it is hunting season, which always makes me a bit nervous for running, and it is cold and dark in the morning before work and in the evening following work.

I've got my race registration, hotel reservation, and airline tickets... but I seriously need to kick it into gear to get back in shape for this race. Any advice for sticking with training in the cold weather/dark days/busy holiday season?

My advice is to get some great warm gear that's reflective/lighted. I run almost exclusively after work, and therefore I have stuff that makes me visible from space.

I have a safety vest, neon hat, headlamp, knuckle lights (just got these and they're AWESOME, don't even need the headlamp with them), neon green half-zip warm top (brooks nightlife stuff from last year is cheap on Sierra Trading Post right now), and shoes that have 360 degrees of reflectivity (Nike Lunar Glide). I look completely comical, but no cars or hunters are going to miss me!

That way, there are no excuses! I love running in the evenings--it sort of washes all the blah of the day out of my brain and body and gives me a reset button for the night and the next day.

Hey there mamacate I would really live to walk to the race too. We are at POR - maybe as things get closer we can set it up? I remember talk about it last year but they couldnt find a "veteran" to lead the way...have you done it before?

Hi Dreamer,

I haven't done it before, but I did look at where we'd need to go quite carefully last year, and then I chickened out. There was too much going on--I had a sitter for my DD whom I had come at 2:30 am and I just felt like I should go with the flow, plus I worried that there would be barriers set up. If there were, they were just those orange plastic fences that are easily jumped or crawled under.

I think I'm game this year. Let's rally a group and do it. There really was nothing to recommend the bus ride and subsequent mile-long walk (congested with portapotty lines) to the corrals.

:)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for in a foam roller? I have the Tiger Tail, but am thinking about getting one that is thicker and more for floor work.

Hi, girls!

Just wanted to say a big THANKS for your encouraging words as a fluffy first-timer!

Been under the weather all week...so feeling a but discouraged about losing a whole week of training. This is such a friendly thread, though, and has lifted my spirits quite a bit. :)

Looking forward to finishing my first half!

I'm right there with you! I haven't run a single step in 3 weeks. I don't feel safe running here in the dark and life has been getting in the way of going to the gym. Plus, it seems like we've hit the never ending winter cold season.

Just bought some new UA tights, so I'm forcing myself out in the cold this morning to try them!
Submitted my time for corral placement this week, so that also made it a bit more real.

Truth be told, I think a lot of people are struggling right now---my feed on Daily Mile barely moves anymore. I think it's just that time of year. No real advice, but congrats on the new job!

Here's your ::kick in the tutu:: Now go run! :)

Thanks! This is helpful. I'm going to look for knuckle lights and reflective gear right now.

Thanks for the kick in the tutu! And congrats on submitting your time! Can't wait to see which corrals we end up in.

At least you have a 10k or greater to run before the race. In DC, MD and northern VA before PHM there is nothing. There's a 5 miler but that isn't long enough.

I don't know what time frame you were looking for, or how far out you want to go but here are the two races I was looking at for my next:

http://www.ringinginhope.com/December312011race.html

I have to work on the 31st so I'll be at the Leesurg on on the 1st.

Question if a race is not chipped but they do times by bibs and post those times as official does this count???

Add me to the list! I'm officially registered for the PHM!

This is my first one and all of you have been very inspiring. I've been doing pretty well with my training but its been tough with a new job and the weather getting cold up here in the north. Whenever I'm lacking motivation, I check out these boards and remember I'm not alone training for this.

So I just wanted to say hello :wave2: and thanks for keeping me moving!

I like the new gear idea- nothing like spending a bunch of money to get you back out there. And, with hunters you really do need to be identifiable.

Also, take it easy on yourself. A short run is better than no run. Set reasonable goals for this week, and I think you will find that you are back in the swing of things next week.

Hi Princesses! :wave2: I just signed up for the Princess 1/2 and just started to read all the great info on this thread. This will be my 1st race, so do I just let Disney decide what corral to put me in? I've noticed some talk about running a 10K before the Princess and then submitting times at the Expo. Is there a certain running pace for each Corral? I am not fast and do not have a specific goal in mind right now for the race, but I don't plan on walking either. Any advice? Thank you!

Anyone know if results from a virtual race would count? I have a Facebook friend doing a 10k virtual race on December 8. It looks like all results will be listed online via google doc. Thoughts?

nycrunningmama - race for recovery 5k10k

Sorry, I can't post links yet.

Eta: I googled other virtual races because I was curious, and some have a results page or post results to cool running . Com

Is there a b-tag in the bib? I have done races like that, where you just leave it on the bib.

It has to be chip timed. With a virtual race you could enter anytime you want. KWIM?

I did the 2011 Rotary, can't remember but I'm pretty sure there was a chip times were posted online and I think I may have taken the time to the 2011 Princess.

I actually love going up the hills there; yesterday I did a 5k in the front of the park at Ida Lee-up is good, the down not so much!

That's what I figured. Why are 10ks so hard to find? :) I'm tentatively planning to do one in Jan, but it depends on the weather. Darn WI winter running.

The only 10k I can find in my area is exactly one week before Princess. That's about the mileage I would probably be doing that weekend anyway so it may work for me. However, it's a trail run as part of my running club's winter trails series. So that might slow me down. On the other hand, it's at our local park where I run every weekend. I'm pretty used to those trails. I haven't seen the course so there's a possibility they'll take us off the beaten path, in which case all bets will be off.

I'm kicking myself because we have tons of 10Ks around here all summer and into the early fall. I didn't do one partly because I was OCR training for Tough Mudder and partly because I planned on using the 15K Hot Chocolate for my placement time. Then I got hurt and couldn't run HC so now I don't have one to submit. :( My own fault or waiting, but I didn't think in a million years that it would be a problem.
